Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
Perhaps the best thing about The property Villas, and by extension The property (one of the cluster of three fully serviced luxury villas that make up Majapahit, the others being villas Nataraja and Raj, is its isolation. Standing on the absolute seafront timber deck that Villa Samudra calls its front door, with the spray from the waves teasing you slightly backwards with every crash, it's easy to forget you don't have this island all to yourself. Think Cathy and Heathcliff, wrapped in the drama of the wild and stormy Yorkshire moors … only translated onto the stark beauty of the black volcanic sand beaches and swirling waves of Ketewel, Bali.
Of course, this very isolation, The property 's biggest positive, could also be its biggest negative. It really depends on how much you want to show off that teensy weensy bikini of your own, or whether you're here for total rest and relaxation, an escape from the masses. Besides, Wuthering Heights wouldn't have had anything like the comfort of The property to boast of. With its four double ensuite bedrooms (one situated in an antique wooden Joglo with its own private garden, swimming pool and beachside deck); a lounge/dining area that opens up completely onto the jacuzzi, 16m x 4m pool, tropical garden, the sea and the tiny neighbouring island of Nusa Lembongan beyond; a massage bale (gazebo) and an open air living/dining area – both within range of refreshing sea spray; poolside umbrellas and loungers and a private beachside deck with two massive daybeds, you'll have a hard time choosing a spot to put your feet up.
Guests who book five nights or more at The property Villas are treated to a complimentary trip aboard the villas' private traditional Balinese fishing boat (max 6 people) to idyllic snorkelling spot, The Blue Lagoon. The boat is also available for other fishing and sight-seeing trips for a reasonable fee.
Majapahit Villas are down a small track a kilometre or so off the main Denpasar–KlungKung bypass. They face out over the Badung Strait with Nusa Penida in the distance. This stretch of black sand beach with its excellent reef break is good for experienced surfers, but strong currents and a swirling high tide that covers the beach all the way up to the villa sea wall mean that this is not really the spot for swimming. Within the immediate vicinity of the villas is little except a few sleepy local houses and a tiny temple spotted amongst the rice terraces, grazing cows, fields of tapioca and chillies and pockets of coconut palms. Nearby is the tiny village of Ketewel, while Sukawati, famous for its cheap local market, is a few kilometres inland en route to the cultural and artistic heart of Bali, Ubud.
