About this location
The Lake District
Keswick on Derwentwater is located in the Northern Lakes. This is the perfect area to choose equally for gentle relaxation or for an action packed family adventure holiday with lots of things to do including activities and attractions.
The stunningly located town of Keswick in the Lake District, nestled on the shores of Derwentwater, has a wide array of shops and galleries.
Explore the six major lakes, picturesque valleys and unspoilt villages with the mountains of Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Scafell all within easy reach.
This is a wonderful area in which to try new outdoor activities or to extend your existing skills.
Walkers and climbers are spoiled for choice. From the high summits to forest trails and lakeside paths, there are walking routes suitable for all.
Within such a compact area as the North Lakes it is very easy to explore the neighbouring valleys and secluded places. To the east, for example, you can enjoy the lakeside paths beside Thirlmere. To the west you can explore the delights of Whinlatter mountain forest.
Eating out in Keswick in the Lake District is a joy with an exciting choice of restaurants, pubs or cafes. Keswick town cente is no 'clone town' and even the charity shops are interesting and there is a twice weekly market selling quality local produce!
Keswick Tourism Association organise a programme of almost weekly events and festivals throughout the year.
Keswick is a small town situated in the north Lakes on Derwentwater. There are many walks and cycle rides from the front door of the house, both low level and up onto the fells. There is also sailing, canoeing and rowing on the lake and a forest centre with mountain bike trails, ropes course and adventure playground 5 miles away. For the more adventurous there is a climbing wall near the Stone Circle and there are several local companies running climbing / abseiling and paragliding courses.
The town is particularly good for younger families with a leisure pool with waves and slide, new play park, level cycle path, cinema, crazy golf, climbing wall and the lakeshore beaches all within a short walk of Ashness House. Keswick also has the modern Lakeside Theatre with a varied programme. There's plenty to do without ever having to leave the immediate area and even without moving the car!

"Clean, comfortable and spacious"
Ashness house was clean and comfortable and had plenty of room. We stayed with our 4 children (ages between 9 and 17) and had plenty of room. It was great having an extra lounge as it gave the kids somewhere to do their own thing!

"Perfect for Walking Friends/Families"
We liked this because it wasn't 'posh', just comfy, clean and perfect for us, (eight walkers).
Two lounges, close to town, really good base :) xx

"Great pad for a wet weekend"
Stayed at Ashness House last June and despite a weekend of rain had a pleasant weekend here. Very comfortable with lots of character and spent relaxing hours reading in the attic bedroom (great views) and also in the 1st floor lounge. Large single room downstairs is ideal for cooking/eating and just chilling with friends.
Looking forward to going again.

"Excellent cottage in a great location"
The cottage was spacious and lacked for nothing.
All the rooms were comfortable and spotless.
The location is perfect for the town and lake and meant that the teenagers in our party did not need lifts to escape their parents.
We would recommend this to anyone who wants a Lake District stay with the convenience of being close to ameneties.
