Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Blencathra Cottage is a beautiful property, which has recently been refurbished to a high standard. The 2 bedroom cottage sleeps 4 people and 1 well behaved dog. Located just above the small village of Threlkeld, it is the perfect base to explore the northern Lake District.
The cottage has not one, but two, beautiful wood burners, making the stylish interior cosy and welcoming. One is in the traditional kitchen, which is well equipped and has a small dining table, for the family to enjoy dinner together in the warmth of the fire. The other is in the sitting room that, along with the master bedroom, boasts stunning views over St John's in the Vale. This makes it easy to just sit and relax, enjoying the surrounding countryside, without taking a step out the front door. A twin bedroom and family bathroom, with roll top bath, complete the top floor. Outside there is an enclosed garden and patio area, once again showcasing the stunning views.
Threlkeld is a short 5 minute drive away from the popular town of Keswick, which has lots to offer every kind of holiday maker, from adventurous activities to a quiet cup of tea and piece of cake. Threlkeld itself has two pubs and is the starting point to many walks, including the cottage's namesake, the local favourite hill, Blencathra.

The Cumbria/Lake District
With accessible mountains, beautiful lakes and tarns, woodlands and moorlands, the Lake District is a haven, not only for outdoor enthusiasts, but for anyone who loves peace and beauty.
The changing seasons bring with them different highlights – Spring is a time of new life with baby lambs, Wordsworth's daffodils, and walks through bluebell woods. Summer brings it's own magic, either lazing by a lake or enjoying the view from the high mountain peaks. Beautiful Autumn colours hopefully bring along an Indian Summer and wild winter on the frosty fells, makes the most of an open fire and a seasonal glass of mulled wine.
The beautiful lakes, with dramatic fells rising from their shores, are just part of a great experience of excellent local food and fantastic activities. A holiday here will live long in the memory and get you coming back for more.
'Blencathra Cottage' is located in the village of Threlkeld, in the Northern Lake District. It is a perfect base for the surrounding fells, the majestic mountains of Skiddaw, Scafell Pike and Hellvellyn are easily accessible by car or bus and, as the name suggests, Blencathra and its ridge 'Sharp Edge' can be reached from Threlkeld. The village also has two great pubs offering great food and drink. The village is also surrounded by wonderful quiet lanes for cycling and footpaths for the more adventurous mountain bikes.
A gentler 4 mile stroll can be made along the railway line to the bustling town of Keswick (or if you prefer a 5 minute drive). Keswick offers everything from thrilling outdoor activity to a relaxing cup of tea and delicious piece of cake. It is also the home to Derwentwater Lake, a beautiful setting for a day's walk or taking a trip on the ferry service, 'Keswick Launch'. The lake is also popular with swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. Keswick also provides lots of rainy day entertainment including the 'Pencil Museum' and the intriguing 'Puzzling Place'.
In the other direction, the Ullswater valley is within a 15 minute drive from 'Blencathra Cottage'. It is the starting point for several routes up to the exhilarating ridge 'Striding Edge', a very popular challenge all year round. Ullswater lake is one of the most beautiful in the district and there are many pleasant strolls along its shoreline. There are plenty of pubs dotted around, serving hearty meals and real, local ale - perfect after a day on the fells.
