Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Middle Cottage is a traditional 18th Century lakeland cottage, which has been renovated to provide comfortable and sophisticated accommodation for up to 4 people, plus one well behaved dog.
Situated in a prime location in the village of Portinscale, Middle Cottage has been newly renovated by the skilled owners and finished to a very high standard. The character of the property has been retained and improved by the sympathetic refurbishment.
The downstairs interior is entirely open plan with a cosy lounge area and sofa seating arranged around the woodburner. The owners have crafted much of the beautiful oak furniture and the bespoke staircase by hand. The traditional slate fireplace is a focal point in the sitting room and the original beams have been retained throughout.
The kitchen is equipped with an electric hob and cooker, a fridge, freezer, washing machine and a dishwasher. The dining area provides seating for 4 people.
The lounge is equipped with a Freeview TV, DVD player, digital radio and an Ipod docking station.
Upstairs there is a double and twin bedroom. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, WC and washbasin.

The Cumbria/Lake District
With its breathtaking mountain scenery, beautiful lakes and picturesque villages, the Lake District is a paradise, not only for outdoor enthusiasts but for anyone who loves peace and beauty.
The changing seasons bring with them different highlights. In Spring observe baby lambs, bouncing around Wordsworth's Daffodils; laze about by a lake in Summer, after walking amongst the fells; watch the beautiful colours appear in Autumn, whilst hopefully enjoying an Indian Summer and Winter boasts cold frosty days, warm snug evenings and sitting in front of an open fire with a large glass of wine.
The beautiful lakes with dramatic fells rising from their shores are just part of a great experience. The Lake District offers excellent local food, beer and fantastic activities that make a holiday here live long in the memory.
Portinscale is the perfect starting place to explore the Lake District, in particular the Northern Fells and lakes. There are a variety of walks right from the front door, and it's a five minute walk to Derwentwater, where you can explore its shores on foot or take the launch around the lake into Borrowdale.
Portinscale is well served by three hotels, a pub and two cafes, all offering varied menus and good selections of beverages. A two-minute walk down the road will find you at The Farmer's Arms, a well presented village pub, which is dog and family friendly, with a smart bar area and plenty of character.
Portinscale also has a popular marina with all manner of watersports available just a few minutes stroll from the front door. The cottage is a great starting point for hundreds of walks, either onto the fells of the Coledale Horseshoe or along the lakeshore paths of Derwentwater.
Keswick is within walking distance or a 5 minute drive, where there are further pubs and restaurants, as well Booths supermarket. Keswick is a hub of outdoor activity, whilst providing enough entertainment for those who prefer a less adventurous holiday; there is something to do for everyone in the area. Cockermouth, the home of Wordsworth, is also only a 15 minute drive away; and while you are there it's well worth paying a visit to the Jennings Brewery.
The visitor centre at Whinlatter is close by and has café, bike hire and high ropes course (Go Ape), as well as a live video camera in the Osprey nest (May-August). There is also a recently opened mountain bike trail, said to be one of the best and longest forest trails in England.
