The Island of Gozo region
A completely unsophisticated island, Gozo is an ideal place for a quiet holiday and offers ample of activities such as walking, sightseeing, winetasting, sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling, diving into the deep blue clear seas. From its many flat topped hills the visitor looks down at the fertile valleys and folklore villages. The beauty of the unspoilt life goes on in this essentially farming and fishing island which is enchanting. As regards its history, Gozo follows same pattern as its sister island Malta - subject to its same conquests and its same vicissitudes. Also here the island of Gozo have much to offer to the tourist : places connected to events to the past, towers and fortifications, churches and chapels with its interesting history, traditions kept alive in the normal life of people and ..... and .... many myths and legends. When nature comes in the tourist can see easily that it scattered its treasures with a generous hand on the island of Calypso : enchanting landscapes and wonderful beauty spots, golden sandy beaches and rocky bays, fascinating inlets and sheltered bays, hills and valleys which all help give the island personality of its own. The Maltese islands got an excellent climate with sunny hot weather throughout the long summer months.
Kercem area
The village of Kercem (pronounced Kerchem) is the next village to the capital city of Victoria which is known mostly know for the annually fair of `L-Ghadira ta` San Raflu` which this area got fantastic views. This lake (ghadira) is named after Saint Raphael (San Raflu) which in the past villagers used to launder their clothes there. On day, pirates kidnapped 3 youn ladies that were washing their clothes there and took them on board their battle ships for slavery! Saint Raphael lake is located near cliffs and many fishermen used to tie themselves with a rope from the top of the cliff for fishing. Once a local fisherman who was supported by a rope lost control of fishing as a wave brought him down into the rough sea and although he was a good swimmer he couldnt swim to the rocks to climb back. He had lost hope that he will survive when a White Lady surprisingly appeared which helphed him ashore and then she dissapeared. Every year a fun fair is held at `L-Ghadira ta` San Raflu` were many games are played, there will be pony rides for children and much more activities such as spot prizes which you can win chicks, rabbits and so on. The nearest bay is Xlendi bay where you find dive shops, sea side restaurants, bars and discos. at this village of Kercem you find everyday essentials such as foodshops, bars, pharmacy and bakeries. Restaurants to be found either at the capital city of Victoria or at Xlendi bay. The religious feast of Kercem is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of July with fireworks glittering into the dark high skies and Saint Catherine wheels are scattered on the ground to throw colourfull sparks, lit up streets for the Saint to pass from and then back into the well lit and lovely tapestry decorated church. Band marches will take part in the feast whilst the locals will throw confetti from their balconies and roof terraces. At the feast you can taste the local delicies such as pastry cheese and peas cakes, soft and hard nougat, deepfried pastry filled with dates, honey rings, macaroons, local pizza (called ftira) and much much more to fill up your tummy!

Guestbook
SAN GIRGOR got excellent furnishings and equipment. The maids did a good job and Carmen was very welcoming and efficient. The welcome foodpack was very good. We would stay again at San Girgor as got good accommodation and we received efficient service. We liked the Gozo people, its beauty and the festivities especially of the Assumption. SWIFT from England.
SAN GIRGOR is very good. Maid service is good and house was cleaned well on their visits. Carmen is a gem and she recommended restaurants and trips. We would stay again at SAN GIRGOR as Carmen was very prompt on replying to emails and confirming booking. Carmen wasnt intrusive as she gave us our privacy during our holiday without asking for it. This is our 3rd trip to Gozo. We love the island. Hope to return in the near future. MCANDREWS from England.
