Home description
Built right on the edge of the cliffs of Cape Koutoulas, the villa Calypso offers a direct view of the sea from all of its seating areas. The infinite blue of the sea, the white pebbles on the beach, the green locusts and the black and red cliffs of the Cape make up an enchanting setting for the tenants of the villa, who can be compared to the Homerian hero Ulysses that was enchanted by the beauty of the Queen Calypso. The excellent use of stone, iron, glass & wood, in both traditional and modern styles, produces an innovative architectural design that gives guests the illusion of being aboard a sailing boat at sea. The luxurious equipment and the comfortable & fully functional areas add to a sense of perfect tranquillity & privacy by ensuring living conditions of relaxation, serenity & freedom of movement & choice to its tenants. ---- MORE INFO: in the end of this page - the choice = Visit the advertiser's website--. differently Owners Website innahorion-villas.gr

The Crete region
The west coast of Crete, all the way from Mpallos and Falasarna till Sfinari, Livadia, Elafonisi in Kissamos until the Krios peninsula in Paleohora, has managed to remain intact despite the passing of time and to have many parts of it included in European Union programmes for the protection of nature. The coastline continues for many kilometers sprinkled with amazing beaches and quiet fishing villages. A few meters higher up in the mountains, mountainous villages pass the time gazing into the infinity of the African sea. Time goes by very slowly up here… Our concept has been based on notions like luxury, simplicity, natural beauty, ecological conscience, environmental respect.
You can swim in secluded beaches, walk alone and barefoot on the sand and pebbles of the beach, enjoy the rugged beauty of the Cretan landscape on hiking tracks, taste traditional dishes in small local taverns in beautiful villages scattered around this area, savour wine and tsikoudia in the company of locals, go fishing and, weather permitting of course, enjoy a small trip on a speed boat in a search of secluded beaches. You can enjoy captivating sunsets; go swimming at night under the moonlight at sea or in your swimming pool; you can listen to the primeval sounds of nature, the symphonic music of the wind passing through the rocks of the peninsula escorted by the plash of the sea waves and the singing of the birds. You can put aside your everyday problems, feel rejuvenated, fill your batteries, get in touch with the people you love … but most of all, get in touch again with yourself.-
Of course, for all those of you who wish to combine all of the above with modern communication tools, we provide constant 24hour high speed satellite wireless internet.
Keramoti area
The villa is located in the seaside village of Livadia, Keramoti bay, Innahorion, in the southwestern part of Crete, at a distance of 72 km from Chania and 31 km from Kissamos. The villa can be accessed through a 4 km long road that is connected to the regional provincial road. The village is located in the middle of the European hiking path E4– a seaside route of exceptional natural beauty- that starts at the village of Kambos and continues through the villages of Keramoti, Livadia, Chryssoskalitissa and Elafonisi. The route is typical of the rugged beauty of Crete with amazing changes of the scenery between olive and locust trees and sea-beaten rocks of black and red volcanic lava.
Elafonisi One of the most exotic gifts of nature to Crete…Lacy beaches, a forest of age-old cedars, thin white sand made of sea shells, long shallow stretches of sea with turquoise waters where you can wade to, an islet with dunes and lilies and around it a handful of rocks in shallow waters with emerald- coloured sand. Few images of Crete can be compared to the view just before the last turning of the road to Elafonisi ... In the village of Livadia, buying food is still done in the traditional way – you may buy fish from the fishermen in the small harbour, vegetables, dairy products and meat from the farmers, but you will also find three small taverns. There is a mini-market in the village of Kefali and larger supermarkets in the villages of Platanos and Kissamos. A gas station is located about 11 km away in the village of Elos.

Further details indoors: Lounge, dining-room, kitchen The south side of the lounge that overlooks the sea has large, opening patio doors, which lead to the exterior area of the villa through a bridge that crosses the pool. From the north side of the lounge, ample light is diffused to the kitchen and the dining room through a large 2,5m x 2m glass opening. This opening gives visitors the impression that the whole space is merely an extension of the natural environment. The whole setting with the sea on one side and the cliffs on the other is linked together in perfect harmony. A significant architectural element that defines the functional character of this area is the kitchen islet with a work bench, 4 ceramic cooking zones and an oven. On one side of this islet -the side of the window- there is the rest of the electrical equipment of the house: a refrigerator, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a boiler, a coffee maker, a toaster and kitchen cupboards. On the other side, there is the dining room with a large table for 8 people and the lounge. A distinctive element of this area is the chimney of the kitchen islet that hangs from the ceiling, right opposite the loft, and makes the space in-between that is 5.10m high seem smaller. The lounge area is right beneath the loft that houses the second bedroom and has two huge and comfortable sofas that can be turned into beds and the television and home entertainment shelf.
Bedrooms: The first bedroom is on the left of the entrance and has a double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a hydro massage tub. Huge patio doors offer a superb view of the sea and lead to the patio, right above the pool. A staircase across the bedroom leads to the office in the bedroom loft, above the bathroom. The loft is in the same area as the bedroom and it is divided from it with a protective divider. The same idea was used in the bedroom on the other side of the lounge: it is the children’s bedroom with 2 beds, only the loft is much larger and instead of an office it has two more beds. In this way, the bedroom can sleep four children. The en-suite bathroom has a shower cabin and a hydro massage tub.The third bedroom is inside the loft and it is divided by two glass dividers, from the kitchen and the en-suite bathroom. The bathroom is tiled in green Arabic tessera. Huge patio doors on the side of the sea lead to the balcony right above the pool bridge. When you lie down in bed, listening to the sound of the waves bursting on the sea shore right beneath you, watching the blue colour of the sea unfold in front of you and the oak floor in complete harmony with the wooden roof and its supporting beams, you forget that you are at home and think that you are in a luxury suite of a cruiser ship.
Further details outdoors: Pool - surroundings:
The pool is 16,5 metres long, 3 metres wide and 0,6-1,80 metres deep. It is located on the side of the villa that overlooks the sea. The water surface is lower than the lounge floor by 0,65 metres because of the bridge that is built over it. The bridge unites the lounge area with the pool area that is made of iron, steel and ship wood. The left and front parts of the pool are linked to a corridor that is 1m wide and on the same level with the water surface so that the person who is swimming can see the sea. It is also connected to the area where the barbecues and the showers are located and to the 6,5m x 5m patio. The whole pool area together with the sun shelter (that is made of iron and cloth) looks like a ship deck by ensuring a superb view of the infinite blue of the sea on one side and the rugged landscape of the cliffs of the Cape on the other.

Guestbook for Villa Calypso
Luxury in the wild west of crete at Villa Calypso Murdo London Review Submitted: June 24, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008 My wife and I spent a week at Villa Calypso as part of our honeymoon in June 2008. The architecture, cleanliness and facilities at the villa were all superb and lived up to our high expectations. The owner's representatives were friendly, attentive and provided great service.
It overlooks the sea in the rocky cove below with a stepped path providing easy access for a swim in the sea (sandals needed for swimming in the water). If thats not your preference then the integral pool should keep you happy and was well maintained throughout our stay.
My wife and I were more than happy to lounge on the various deck areas and make good use of the outside barbecue to grill our evening meals.
If you would like a break from cooking your own hoiwever then I would recommend Yiannis' taverna in nearby Livadia village (local specialities including stuffed aubergine flowers, which were delicious).
In summary, this was a superb and aesthetically pleasing villa which is great for a secluded getaway. If self-sufficient holidaying is your thing this will be perfect (the nearest supermarket is around 45 mins away by car). If you like to go our every evening on your holidays then this is probably too remote for you.
If I had to reach for an improvement suggestion it would merely be to provide a small starter pack of essentials (e.g. a soap powder tablet, dishwasher tablet, coffee filter, sugar cubes). We had to get to the villa and see what was there before returning to a supermarket the next morning to stock up for the week. Not a huge problem but it was a 3 hour round trip by car.
