Carraig Beg stands in Market Street, one of the historic lanes in the heart of Kenmare. It is an end house in one of the beautiful Victorian terraces that still grace the town. The quiet back street location is just a stone's throw from Kenmare's wealth of restaurants and bars. All amenities and services are close at hand but sitting in the sun in the rear garden, the hustle and bustle of the town seems light years away.

The County Kerry region
Kerry is probably most famous for its Ring of Kerry, the scenery here is inspiring. You are literally on heaven's door, as everything worth seeing in the South West is easily within reach of Kenmare. See below all the trips yopu can plan when in Kenmare.
The Kenmare area
Many things have been said about Kenmare, located in Co. Kerry in the picturesque south-west of Ireland.
Kenmare has been described as the Jewel in the Crown of the Kingdom, a Gourmet Town, a Five Star Location and a designated Heritage Town. It is the winner of numerous Tidy Town Gold Medals and its pretty streetscape, dating back to 1670, together with the magnificent location on Kenmare Bay at the foot of the Cork and Kerry mountains draws visitors back year after year. Situated on both the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara, and easily accessible by air (Kerry Airport 48km, Cork Airport 96km), sea (ferries from France arrive in near-by Cork) and road, Kenmare makes an ideal touring centre from which to discover the famed beauty of the rugged coastline and mountainous hinterland.
While staying in Kenmare, there are so many day trips for you to do at your own pace, here are just a few ideas, these are like a tasters of things to do, when you book one of our Holiday Homes, we give you access to more comprehensive information about all the different things to do, on a part of our site that is only accessible to our guests.

The most familiar part of the National Park is Muckross House dating from 1843, a former private residence where you can view the children’s toys, the famous Killarney furniture of the library & drawing room & the famous specially prepared bedroom where Queen Victoria slept during her visit in 1861..
Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry
It is impossible to visit the Dingle Peninsula and not be impressed by its archaeological heritage as one combines each site’s folklore & mythology. The Dingle Peninsula’s isolated location on the edge of the known world was possibly the reason a concentration of Early Christian monastic sites were founded there.

The region is every golfer’s paradise. The ambitious golfer is sure to find satisfaction as well as resistance on some of Kerry’s fine golf courses. Such celebrated courses as the two local courses, Kenmare and the Ring of Kerry. Ballybunion (both old & new courses), the challenging and magnificent Tralee course and the championship courses of Killarney and Waterville are amongst Kerry’s offerings. 18 Hole Courses: Ballybunion, Beaufort, Ceann tSibeal, Dooks, Killarney, Skellig Bay, Tralee, Waterville.
The Beaches of Kerry
Kerry has 75 miles of sandy beaches and the cleanest waters in Europe. They vary from quiet sandy beaches to exposed beaches which receive huge Atlantic surf. The European Blue Flag has been awarded to a number of Kerry’s beaches representing a high level of environmental quality.
Fishing in Kerry
Fish the lakes and rivers of Kerry for Wild Salmon, Brown Trout and Sea Trout in season. Whether you are interested in sea, lake or river fishing Kerry has it all. Deep sea fishing can be arranged from near Sneem. Local lakes and rivers have salmon and brown trout.

For those who are avid gardeners a visit to Direen Garden in Lauragh is a must, explore the sub tropical water side estate, from the travel over the Healy Pass to Glengariff where a short boat ride will take you to Garnish Island a botanical Garden. See for yourself what the warm gulf current does for foliage in the south west of Ireland.
Bonane Heritage Park
The Park is unique in that it has an abundance of well preserved multi-period archeological sites from the Stone, Bronze, and Iron age right up to pre famine times. The Bonane Heritage Park provides visitors with an 1600 meter walk though 5000 years of history while enjoying some of the breath taking scenery. Lisa from Brighton UK (13/10/2010)
"The cottage is larger than the photos would lead you to think, which is a plus. Comfy beds, good showers and freeview TV is a bonus. Everything is provided in terms of towels and kitchenware and it was very clean throughout. However, the gas bill after just 4 days was really expensive (only having the heating on early morning and evening) which cleaned us out of euros before we left. The local town is lovely, but completely dead in winter (Feb) and I wouldnt recommend going there unless all you want is total quiet and are happy to cook for yourself as most of the local restaurants were closed the whole time. I imagine its very bustling in the summer (but with tourists rather than locals) and has a wide choice of pubs/places to eat (lots of award winning eateries, just not in winter! Great location for exploring, The Beara Peninsula is on your doorstep and is absolutely beautiful (a must drive, go anti-clockwise) then just up the road is The Ring of Kerry and the Kilarney National Park, both stunning. "

Sebastian from Pfedelbach (02/06/2010)
"The owner was very kind. There had been construction workings at our booked house and he offered us an other one in a calm region with a very good standard. Anyway the owner was very friendly and easy to reach. Absolutely recommendable."
Kerry from Portland Oregon (03/04/2010)
"Carrig Beag is a beautiful, warm house. Its obvious that great care and attention was taken in the decor. Its centrally located to shops, restaurants and friendly pubs. Id highly recommend this house to anyone who is interested in staying in Kenmare. "
