The County Kerry region

County Kerry, traditionally known as 'The Kingdom',is situated in the extreme south-west of Ireland. It is one of Ireland's best known tourist destinations, as it 's renowned worldwide for the beauty of the lakes of Killarney and the Ring of Kerry. Kerry has two contrasting terrains- the mountainous south with the Beara, Iveragh and Dingle peninsulas, and the smaller plains that stretch as far north as the Shannon estuary. Along the coast, sandy beaches alternate cliffs and rocky headlands. You will also see regions of outstanding scenic beauty, including the Ring of Beara.
Kerry is also home to ireland's highest mountain Carrauntoohil-1038 metres high,Can be seen from Collorus Lodge, and there is the famous Killarney National Park.
The Kenmare / Collorus area
Collorus is a hilly peninsular with a sheltered harbour, situated on the north coast of the Beara Peninsula, close to the Kerry/Cork border. Dereen Gardens and woods, stone circle, (probably the largest in SW Ireland) Clooney Lakes, Gleninchiquin Waterfall, Ring of Beara, the Healy Pass leading to Glengarrif and the fishing village of Castletownbere are all nearby. This is an extremely scenic area with pretty villages and stunning sea views around every corner. The area is ideal for water sports, walking, golfing, bird watching, fishing and horse riding. There are many archaeological sites nearby. Traditional pubs that serve food, music and dance are available locally.
