Luxury Irish Cottages
About the home
Welcome
We wish to welcome you to this tranquil private property, set in its own private valley, overlooking the mountains, near the sea, where you and your family and friends will be the only residences on the 60 acre property. The cottage is up a 0.5 mile private drive, so you could just leave the car behind and forget the rest of the world, if you would want to. Alternatively, you can enjoy a large range of outdoor activities, to suit all ages, for all weathers. Whether horse riding on the beach, golfing, walking, listening to traditional music, diving or snorkeling, local pubs and restaurants, to name but a few, this location will meet your holiday needs. The property is in Lauragh, Co. Kerry, on the beautiful Beara Peninsula (the “Ring of Kerry” is the peninsula above the Beara Peninsula, but we are not on the typical tourist and coach party trail, but still have all the beauty and scenery).
We can sleep up to 11 people comfortably, however, you only pay depending on the size of your party, making it cost effective, for example, it costs only £295 per week for 4 people. Please see the rates and availability section for the combinations in which you can stay with us, rates set depending on your party size.
What a wonderful 1st Year!
This has been our first year of renting the cottages and we have been fully booked for the entire summer season, with lots of positive and wonderful feedback from our guests. For this reason, we are looking forward to welcoming new guests and enquiries for staying with us throughout 2013. We are already getting initial enquiries and early reservations, so please book early to avoid disappointment. To secure your booking at this stage you need only pay a small deposit.
The Property, sleeping 1-11 people
The property consists of two neighbouring traditional cottages, called the Stone Cottage and The Lodge Cottage, plus the annex entitled the “Haven” (recently introduced and renovated), each approximately 250 years old. The photos below show the layout of these three buildings, within the plot.
The Stone Cottage sleeps 4 comfortably (1 double and two singles), the Lodge sleeps 5 comfortably (1 double and 3 singles), although you can have additional cots, a folding bed, or an additional single bed to be placed in the rooms, if your party is larger. The Haven sleeps an additional 2 people.
Each property is furnished with thick good quality mattresses and lovely bedding and beautiful throws. They are of a high specification, both in renovation, and fixture and fittings, including leather chesterfield sofas, pot-bellied open fire place, underfloor heating, "bubbly" left in the fridge for your arrival, Cath Kidston and Orla Kiely dressings, good quality kitchenware and comfortable living. We do not charge for electricity, gas nor for cleaning.
Good Value and Cost Effective
If you rent one cottage in 2013, it is only £450 a week. If you should need both The Stone Cottage and The Lodge Cottage, we only charge an additional £150 (low) £200 (peak). If you need just the addition of The Haven, we only charge an extra £100. If you need both The Lodge Cottage and The Haven, we only charge an additional £250 (a saving of £50). This arrangement works very well, allowing everyone to have their own space and privacy. This type of set up is a perfect set up for two families holidaying together, or for families bringing grandparents, but allowing them to have their own cottage.
It also makes staying with us cost effective as the prices are dependent on your party size.
Only Yourselves
ONE PARTY RENTAL, NO NEIGHBOURING OTHER PARTIES - It is for this reason and their close proximity, that if you were to just rent one cottage, we would not rent out the other properties, to reserve your privacy. We don't want you having to share your holiday with unknown neighbours. This is unlike most other holiday rental companies.
Special Touches
Although small things, there are lots of added touches and efforts made by us to make a stay with us a little bit more special, naming a few: towels provided, napkins and serviettes for dinner, china tea set, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits/cake on arrival, bubbly in the fridge, wood for the fire, dishwasher and washing machine tablets, bathroom soaps and lovely bath oil, plus free use of the new food pantry system. In addition, if you didn't want to cook all the time, we can offer you a catering service, where your requested meals are delivered to the cottages, a cleaner, plus babysitting and taxi services to enhance your unique holiday. We aim to tailor your stay to meet your needs.
Couples, Families and Multiple Parties
This location is the ideal tranquility for walkers, writers, golfers, photography enthusiasts, painters and divers, to name but a few. For the family, there are a variety of sports and activities, both on and off the farm, to keep everyone entertained, ending each day refreshed and healthy, not to mention tired. It is that old fashioned outdoor lifestyle for the children, with a sense of freedom, peacefulness and space. "Swallows & Amazons" style. Please click on our range of suggested activities for the children and adults, via the links above. If you need us to help organize your week of activities, do let us know.

Enquire nowThe County Kerry region
Half in Kerry and half in Cork, the Ring of Beara - the Beara Peninsula is Ireland in a nutshell, with a landscape that is beautiful, magical and full of rugged charm.
The most westerly of Cork's peninsulas, and arguably its most spectacular, the Beara Peninsula is shared by county Kerry and presents exhilarating hill walking along the 196km Beara Way and a drive circuit of breathtaking scenery in the Ring of Beara. A route much less travelled than the Ring of Kerry, Beara's secret is one that is still quite well kept.
The Ring of Beara links the towns of Glengarriff in Cork with Kenmare in Kerry, in a round about fashion. Glengarriff is an attractive little village deep within Bantry Bay. Boat trips run from Glengarriff to Garnish Island famed for their wonderful Italianate garden. Between Glengarriff and Castletownbere the road is flanked by exposed banks of jagged rock with the rugged peaks of Sugarloaf Mountain and Hungry Hill in the Caha Mountains.
At the hamlet of Adrigole is the turn off for the Healy Pass, a serpentine road that cuts through the mountains to the village of Lauragh with views of spectacular glaciated valleys. The road cuts through Castletownbere, a characterful town with an authentic work-a-day feel and definitely worth a stop. Boat trips run from here to Bere Island and megalithic stone circles, such as the Derreenataggart Stone Circle, punctuate the area.
From Castletownbere take the road down to Dursey Island, a place of desolate beauty that is worth visiting. There is nothing on the island other than sheep, but you won't get the opportunity to travel to an island via a tiny cable car swinging 30m above the waves, that many times in your life! From this Dursey detour, you pick up the road to Allihies a quaint former copper mining town, reminiscent of St Austell in Cornwall.
The road then twists and turns through the iridescent fuchsia clad hills to the brightly coloured cluster of buildings of Eyeries a village renowned for its tweeness. The road winds further up through the mountains and the hamlets of Ardgroom and Lauragh before coming out to Kenmare.
The complete loop will take you back to Glengarriff via the Caha Pass, a precarious winding road literally through the mountains, tunnelled in the 19th Century. The Ring of Beara would take a day's driving though you may wish to stay longer to explore its beauty on foot.
The Kenmare / Lauragh area
This location is the ideal tranquility for walkers, writers, golfers, photography enthusiasts and divers. For the family, there are a variety of sports and activities, both on and off the farm, to keep everyone entertained, ending each day refreshed and healthy, not to mention tired. It is that old fashioned outdoor lifestyle for the children, with a sense of freedom, peacefulness and space. Please see our range of suggested activities for the children.
The town of Kenmare, a 20-25 minute drive from the farm, has a variety of restaurants and good food in it's offerings, two of which have one the 2011 Irish Restaurant Awards for "Best Restaurant" and "Best Service". Starting in the 70's with a modest two restaurants, today it has over 30 of the finest establishments ranging from coffee shops and cafes to top class a la carte restaurants employing the best chefs of Europe.
Kenmare is proud to present the wide choice of foods and styles available in the town visited annually by gourmets from all over the globe. Local produce like Lamb, Kenmare Bay Salmon, Trout, Beef and Shell Fish are the chef's choices and selected to create the many special dishes you will find on the menus of the various Kenmare restaurants.
If you were prefer to stay more local to the farm, you have the choice of either "Josie's Restaurant", "Teddy's" or the "Lakehouse" for evening food.
For a pure self catering experience, it is recommended that you purchase your food from the town of Kenmare, on your way to arriving at the farm. There are a variety of local shops such as the butchers, health food shop, bakery, or the local supermarket for all your needs.
