At Smailholm Mains farm cottages, Kelso accommodation; you are surrounded by the idyllic Scottish Borders countryside.
Situated just over six miles from Kelso, in the estate of the Earl of Haddington at Mellerstain House, Smailholm Mains working farm really is picture perfect for either a short break or a longer holiday.
Mellerstain house is a stunning example of Georgian architecture at its finest. Designed by the architect William Adam in 1725, and his son Robert Adam, it is the residence of the 13th Earl of Haddington. The house sits in over 80 acres of luscious rolling parkland and is in walking distance of Smailholm Tower, the birthplace of Sir Walter Scott.

The Scottish Borders region
The South of Scotland and the area around the Scottish border is home to a variety of interesting local pubs and restaurants, local butchers, bakers, salmon smokeries etc. There are many colourful Border towns and villages for shopping and dining out. Romantic hill country, with rivers, lochs and grazing animals.

Smailholm Mains is 6 Miles North of Kelso on the B3697 Earlston to Kelso road, half a mile south of the village of Smailholm.
From Kelso take the A6089 and then turn left onto the B6397, half a mile outside Kelso. Follow this road for 4 miles and you will find Smailholm Mains sign-posted to the left. Turn left at the Farmhouse and down to the cottages Craggs cottage second and Jocks Cottage third.

"Clean, comfortable, friendly, lovely views."
The cottage is spacious and excellent value. We received a friendly welcome with delicious cake! We really appreciated the BBQ in the lovely garden, and the logs for the open fire. We would definitely… More
