Burnbrae set in the heart of the Scottish Borders, is quiet and peaceful yet only 3 miles from the historical town of Kelso with its majestic abbey, delicous restaurants, large cobbled square. The self catering one-bedroom cottages were sympatheticaly created during 1999-2001 by conversion of our farm steading. Each cottage is all on one level, light and airy with plenty of space,ideal for 2 extra beds available, please ask, generously equip for 2 or 4. From the dining area of the living room, there is direct, level access to a south-facing conservatory with magnificent views across the secluded garden, river and the Tweed valley to the Cheviot hills and the border between Scotland and England. Watch the fantastic native wildlife including deer, hares, our resident heron and woodpecker from your cottage.
The light and airy living room has a wood burner for which we supply wood. Come and cosy up infront of the fire after a great day out exploring the local historical houses and gardens.
Come and cycle the quiet Border roads or explore the beautiful area walking direct from your cottage. The cottage has a heated drying room and on site is a lockable cycle shed.

The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, hob and an oven/grill/microwave. All bed linen and towels are provided. All have colour tv, freeview, dvd player, hi-fi cd player/radio, alarm clock, and a hair dryer.
The cottage has electrical heating throughout which is supplemented by a wood-burning stove in the living room. We will lay the fire and light it on request or at an arranged time so that there is a bright glow to welcome you on your arrival or on return from an outing. We provide a supply of firewood in the living room. The cottage is well insulated and is warm even in the coldest weather. The cottage has a heated drying room. There is a washing machine, tumble dryer and washing line for guests to use.

There is a large shared garden with BBQ for guests use. Why not walk directly from your cottage along the Eden Water, or further perhaps to Hundy Mundy or Hume Castle. (Directions in the information file in your cottage). Look out for the resident heron often seen on our large pond. Feel free to walk in our fields during your stay.
There is ample off road carparking, all on one level to your cottage front door.
We have a lockable cycle shed for which you can have a key for the duration of your stay.
Mungo's Well cottage is completely pet free. Well behaved dogs are welcome in Begrum cottage. They must not be left unattended in the cottage or garden. Maximum 2 dogs at any one time. Adjacent to the cottages are fields in which you are welcome to walk with your dog. There are also farm tracks nearby which are suitable for dog-walking. There is an extra charge of £10 per dog
The Scottish Borders region
Burnbrae is located in the heart of the beautiful Scottish Borders, ideal for exploring both the English and Scottish Borders with many historical houses and beautiful gardens. Burnbrae is 60 minutes from Edinburgh and 50 mins from the east coast fishing villages and towns.
Cycling is a particular pleasure on the network of quiet lanes around Burnbrae. There are many shorter trails from most of the main towns and also some longer distance routes including the 4 Abbeys way an 88km (55 mile) circular route linking the four main abbeys in the Scottish Borders - Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh. The route follows mainly quiet roads, although short stretches on A roads are unavoidable, a scenic route that takes in many historic interest points. The Scottish Borders is now one of the most cyclist friendly areas of Scotland. In the hills are many tracks which can be cycled by those with the necessary stamina and equipment. In Glentress forest, there are extensive cycling tracks separate from walking paths.
The Tweed River (5 km ) away from Burnbrae has some of the best fishing in the world.
The Scottish Borders is known for is horse riding, Burnbrae is located next door to the Nenthorn Equestrian center from where you can go riding to suit your experience
The local area has many craft workshops, galleries and exhibitions. On site at Burnbrae Studio we have 1 and 2 day craft workshops open to residenrts and non residents, see our website.
Burnbrae is located in the heart of the Scottish Borders, 3 miles from the picturesque, abbey town of Kelso. Kelso is regarded as one of the most charming and beautiful towns in the Scottish Borders complete with cobbled streets, large market square, elegant Georgian buildings and of course the River Tweed and Teviot which are well known for their spectacular fishing. Kelso has many fantastic restaurants and a farmers market. The farmers market and musical events are held in the square.
The local area has many golf courses including Kelso, the Roxburgh and the Hiersel. The Kelso Race course is between Burnbrae and Kelso, near Floors Castle.
The Border Union Show Ground in Kelso has many different types of events. Kelso Civic Week is held in July each year.

"Views from the glass conservatory were stunning!"

My family and I live on site which means we are on hand if guests have questions about the local area or the cottage. I always try to help guests enjoy their stay and hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels. I routeinly email or post written directions to Burnbrae, if guests have an address to receive these, otherwise I give directions to Burnbrae by phone.
