The Ionian Islands region

The Ionian islands are extremely fertile and green almost all year round. In May and early June the island is covered in wild flowers and plant and perfect for walker as the temperature is around 21 degrees average. There is a lot of culture still on the islands and some fabulous architecture still remains. Museums and very old churches are in abundance on these islands, many with old wall paintings dates back hundreds of years.
The Kefalonia area
Kefalonia is the most traditional of the Ionian islands and the most unspoilt. A very traditional Greek style leaves Kefalonia with a place in your heart. A visitor is hard pushed not to return at some stage in the near future once they have the Kefalonia bug. There are many attractions such as the Drogarati caves and Melissani Lake where you can find refuge from the heat of the high season sun in the coolness of their walls. Diving is a popular activity with centres in two areas on the island.
The island is very lush and the Paliki peninsular has the most cultivation still left on Kefalonia. The north of the island hold most of the old architecture with Fiscardo showing off it's old Venitian buildings. Beaches are all over and vary from long fine shingle to stretches of red sand and ofcourse the famous Myrtos and Petani bays with their rolling waves and rugged outcrops.
