The Ionian Islands region
Kefalonia is the jewel of the Ionian Islands. It is a very peaceful Island, more suited to family parties. It has a typical Greek climate of temperatures in the high 90s in July and August, with May, June, September and October still reaching the mid 80s in temperature. Flights from the UK take three and a half hours.
Kefalonia can be driven around in under four hours, so you are never far from places of natural beauty. Assos, Myrtos Beach (as seen in the movie "Captain Corelli's Mandolin"), and the beautiful port of Sami are all within 30 minutes' drive from Pessada. Visit the150-million year old Drogarati Caves and the breathtaking underground lake of Melissan, just 20 minutes away.
For the wine buffs amongst you, a trip to St Gerasimos Monastery and wine tasting at the Robola Winery Is essential. Further north, but still only an hour's drive away, is the picturesque fishing village of Fiskardo. It is well worth the visit to see the only village to have survived the 1953 earthquake. Beaches are plenty. Secluded coves can be found all along the coastline. Lassi for the more adventurous is ten minutes away and offers an array of watersports including jet skis and water skiing. For the shoppers Argostoli offers assorted fashion outlets, and superb restaurants. In brief Kefalonia will be as peaceful as you make it. A true paradise, just 3 hours from the UK!

"A truly wonderful relaxing holiday!"
Having just arrived home, days after our perfect holiday, feel compelled to share some of this experience. If you are a Greek Island lover but Cephalonia is not on your list then this must be rectified immediately! I thought I had seen all over the years holidaying in Spetsas, Rhodes, Crete, Kos and Cyprus but have to say none are more beautiful than this island.
Five adults and 5 children, we were looking for relaxation and fun but on arrival were immediately beaten down by the heat circa mid 30C's, admittedly they were experiencing a mini heat wave but 10 Englanders flying in from the British summer of 2012, the low 20C's would have been exhaustive…! Our 'fall' was caught by the beauty of this rock, completely dominated by Mount Ainos, nearly 5000ft high, the smell of pine, jasmine and bougainvillea and the colours. Brilliant blue skies, the green of the pines, greys of the mountain, meeting the yellows and whites of the sand and pebbles then disappearing into the aqua marine of the sea. Hollywood special effects? No! A dream, maybe…
The 'fall' was cushioned and soothed by the clear waters of many of the local beaches which everyday declared an exotic looking fish or 2, something blue or pink striped of even a starfish, or deep red coloured crabs, incredible. And the clear and cleanliness of it all…
Our base was Pessada, perfectly quiet except for the hum of our swimming pool filter and the background clicking of cicadas. This old and typically Greek village (still showing old building wrecks pre 1953 earthquake) is ideally situated, 15 minutes from the airport and Island capitol of Argostoli. A 10 minute walk to the local beaches, sandy or rocky, whatever takes your fancy or even a 45 minute ferry trip to Zante. Or our favourite, a 10 minute car journey to Lourdas Beach, nestling at the very bottom of the God like Mount Ainos! It has to be seen to be believed, walking out yards into the sea and turning back around to see the landscape and this mountain looking straight back at you. Breath taking! And who needs the south of France or Capri when you can follow the twisty, windy road from Pessada, a couple of hundred feet up the mountain making your way to Skala, looking down at all the pretty beaches, inlets and bays.
All the usual amenities are to hand and a good choice of taverna's and restaurants too but the car is a must and to think how small the island is, we only saw the southern parts. So, the North has to be visited, Sami, Fiskado and Assos resorts to name but a few.
Even with 5 children ranging from 18 down to ten years of age we were completely able to wind-down, turn off the engine and almost throw away the keys and Villa Kallisto made this possible. A beautiful house, a beautiful spot and magnificent views… It wasn't a dream, was it…
Thanks you for your lovely review . Delighted to here you had a good holiday and we hope you welcome you back in the future

Villa Kallisto is simply stunning. It has everything you can possibly need, plus more. We we're a group of eight, staying in Kefalonia for a week for my sisters wedding.
Having the villa split into two apartments was so convenient for us. Both the kitchens we're fully equipped, we also made use of the large bbq and outside seating for al fresco dinners!!
The location was nice and peaceful, my only complaint about the villa would be the road that leads to it. We arrived in the evening and almost missed it. It's more of a lane than a road.
However when did arrive at the villa we were overwhelmed by how beautiful it was. The owners were kind enough to leave cereal, bread, milk and a large selection of wine. So sweet and thoughtful.
Many thanks to Mike and his wife. Also the lady who came in to tidy up and the lovely pool man.
Thank you for your lovely review,we are very pleased to hear that our villa lived up to all your expectations and was an ideal location for you all to enjoy your sisters wedding.hope to welcome you back some day.

"Look no further than Villa Kallisto in Kefalonia, it has it all!!"
We arrived to fantastic weather, always a good sign, the car we had pre arranged was waiting for us at the airport, and off we set following the directions we had been given. As first timers to Kefalonia we where unsure what to expect.
As you drive away from the airport you are straight away into a small village, no traffic jams or hard to follow directions, in fact hardly any cars on the road at all, so refreshing and a very pleasant way to start a holiday, not having to suffer the usual traffic nightmares associated with airports.
We found the villa after about 20 minutes. We knew what to expect as we had seen the website, but wow the Villa Kallisto in person is magnificent, the grounds are beautiful and full of colourful native plants and very obviously well cared for. The Villa is at the foot of the fabulous mountain range with wonderful views out to Zante. Everything that you as a holiday maker might need has been thought of and made available in this Villa. The furniture and fixtures and fittings are all of the highest standard, with lovely personal touches in each room by Mike and Eillen the owners.
Our friends had the top floor which we all used in the evening after we had been out to one of the many local tavernas for dinner, a full list of recomendations is provided by Mike and Eileen in their very detailed manual.
The views from the top floor are stunning and look out over to Zante and at the side of the Villa are the mountains, equally stunning both by day and night. As a group we found that we where together on the ground floor around the pool on the days we stayed in, and there is a beautiful covered area if the sun gets too hot. They even provided us with inflatables for the pool, complete with foot pump so we didnt even have to excert ourselves inflating them.
The BBQ was huge and the guys loved using it as men do! The food can be bought very cheaply from the small supermarket on the main road next to a petrol station and there is also a butchers shop, details again all found in the manual.
There are many beautiful beaches and towns to visit, the castle is also a must with 2 wonderful tavernas, we tried them both and, you cant miss seeing the castle and it is beautiful in the evening as it is fully lit up. The monestary is a short drive away and well worth a look.
We hired a boat one day complete with the owner to drive it for us but he actually let us take turns steering, I had never done this before and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Again all details are found in the manual.
I highly recomend that you do take the time to visit the other towns on this beautiful island, go up the mountains and breath the beautiful air up there and take in the stunning views.
If you decide to stay in then there are 2 TV sets, DVD players, music players, plenty of books and games to keep you amused. We did not use them but the choice and range of things to do within the Villa was very impressive and well thought out.
Mike and Eileen have taken time to take the work out of planning a holiday, they virtually do it all for you and are happy to help with anything you need to know prior to going.
If you want to have a relaxing Villa holiday in wonderful surrounding then this is the place to do it and we very much hope to go back to this wonderful Villa.
thank you for your lovely review and we are really pleased our villa and kefallonia was all you expected it to be.we hope to welcome you all back in the future
