Home description
Romer is ideal for those wanting to be far from the madding crowd, but near to a good choice of excellent tavernas, several secluded beaches and pretty terraced gardens and sundecks to relax in. There are two cottages here, Romer with two bedrooms and Les Kai with one bedroom, set apart from each other on a terraced hillside, with a pretty swimming pool set below them, which is not overlooked by either cottage. Romer Cottage is ideal for 4 people. The details below are for ROMER.
From the cottages you can walk into the nearby village where there are a couple of excellent tavernas and a minimarket. A 25 minute walk will take you to the nearest beach, although there are several secluded beaches to chose from, all within a ten minute drive. A three minute drive will bring you into Fiscardo - the delightful fishing and yachting port where there are many quayside tavernas and local bars where you can sit and watch the boats come in.

Local activities include: Sailing and scuba diving can be arranged in Fiscardo. Snokelling in the crystal clear waters is a must while you are here. Ideal for birdwatching - many red kite and little owls to be found here Walking - there are details of local trails to be found in the cottage Motor boat hire from local Fiscardo - take a boat to explore the coastline and find your own private beach! Horse riding in the hills or along the beach - 40 minute drive away. Fishing - catch your own supper...

Places to visit in Kefalonia:
ASSOS A very picturesque port just 25 minutes drive away from Romer and Les Kai - so go for a day trip to see it, and take a walk up to the castle on the island above it .... if you are feeling fit!
The famous and much photographed MYRTOS BEACH is also nearby - listed as one of the top ten beaches in the world.
MELISSANI LAKE A semi-underground lake you can take a little boat ride on - the best time to go is at midday, when the sun makes fabulous patterns on the walls of the cave.

ST GEORGES CASTLE The old capital of Kefalonia - now quite a spectacular ruin with great views... A nice alternative day out, away from the beaches - take a picnic and explore the old ramparts
THE MONASTERY OF ST GERASIMOS The little church next to the large cathedral is built over the cave that St Gerasimos lived in - you can go down into it - pretty amazing ... especially if you are brave enough to crawl through to his 'bedroom'! Look out for the ostriches they keep there too.
Take a day trip to ITHACA and have an island tour with my firend Yanni who will pick you up from the port.
How to get there
Direct Flights from the UK cost around £230.00 per person, but you can find them for as little as £125: approx. 2hs 45mins flying time from May to October, or via Athens from November to April (less than an hour's flight from Athens). If you have problems finding a flight on the Sunday, we can arrange accommodation for the previous night as there may be a flight available on the Saturday. Further details indoors: Romer Cottage has one large triple aspect double bedroom with balcony, one twin room with door to private patio, bathroom with shower over three quarter bath and WC (and washing machine), and a separate extra WC. It also has full central heating for the winter months.
The kitchen is traditional, with slate tiled floors, woodburning cooking range (handy in the Winter, but in the summer we just use the modern oven and hob!), dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, juicer, microwave oven, etc., dining room table, breakfast bar, and steps down to the living room with Satellite TV, DVD, VCR, CD and audio cassette player and a large selection of videos and books. There is also an iron and ironing board and small hairdryer.
Further details outdoors: Outside there are sun loungers and a dining area under a terraced roof. There are many terraces in the gardens which are filled with a variety of colourful flowers, fruit trees and bourgainvilleas. The swimming pool is set below the cottages on a private terrace, which is not overlooked by either cottage. It is shared between Romer and Les Kai Cottage, but most guests come to this spot for peace and quiet, so the arrangement works well and you will often have the pool to yourself.

Conditions
The property is not suitable for young children due to the unfenced areas on the terraces.
A 30% deposit is required to confirm your booking within 5 days of reservation. The final balance is due 8 weeks prior to the arrival date. If reservations are made less than 8 weeks before arrival, then 100% of the rental is required within 5 days of booking.
A security deposit of £200.00 is payable along with the final balance 8 weeks prior to your holiday. Following checkout of the cottage(s), it (they) will be cleaned and a thorough inventory taken prior to any guests checking in. Provided there is no more than a reasonable cleanup and nothing has been damaged or is missing, a cheque for the entire security deposit will be posted to you within 7 business days.

Robert and I were back to work today ... both slightly shell shocked after our time in Kefalonia. What to say? We had the best holiday of our collective lives, thanks to the sublime beauty of Les Kai and Romer. We've taken lots of photos and will email you some at the weekend, after we've stopped sobbing that we are back in the UK!
