The Ionian Islands region
The island of Kefalonia, with near 800 km2 is the largest of the seven islands of the Ionian Sea , it has almost 37,000 inhabitants.
Its main advantages are its wild and rugged landscapes , combined with abundant vegetation. It is a mountainous island with its highest peak, Mount Ainos, which rises to 1628 meters and is the seat of a protected Natural Park since 1962.
Tourism is underdeveloped compared to the neighboring islands . Tourists enjoy its quietness, few people except in two small towns that comprise 2/3 of the inhabitants, its multitude of beaches, most are very uncrowded, and to wonderful hiking paths where you can not meet people all the day.
This is the place of production of white wine named Robola recognizable by the bags around his bottles.
The island was dominated by the Normans and the Byzantine Empire before becoming Venetian 1500 to 1797, before to be alternately under French domination , Turkish, and Russian. En 1809 it is under the British rule until 1864 , when it will be handed back to the Greek government.
The villa is located in the little village of Ratzakli, between the bustling village of Skala and the fishing village of Katelios, at very short distance of the two.
Built on a hill overlooking the village, this single storey villa is quietly located on a large plot surrounded by greenery and offers stunning views of the Ionian Sea, the Bay of Mouda and the island of Zakynthos.
It is located at 1400 meters from the beautiful sandy beach of Kaminia where loggerhead turtles come to nest in summer.
The water gently sloping, which is very safe for children to play quietly on the sand.

The location and setting of this beautiful villa cannot be faulted. All mod cons were provided, including dishwasher, washing machine and kettle for tea! The villa was immaculately clean, modern and just perfect. The view was spectacular. The free wifi provided was really useful, especially for 'skyping' your family to show them the view! The welcome provided by Patrick was just what we needed after a long journey. The beach is a 10 minute walk and just beautiful. We recommend going to the Femina Taverna just down the road for a great welcome and lovely home cooked food. They even deliver if you ask! Kefalonia is still so unspoilt and stunning. Take a trip up to the top of Mount Ainos for the view and make sure you go to Asos (utterly stunning) and Fiskardo, both lovely.

"Plotting our return as soon as possible"
The Villa is located in a group of three. Although within the group it provided privacy which is very important to us. As the Villas are slightly up the hill from the village of Ratzakli they provide a fabulous view along the coast to Cape Mounda and also across to Zakynthos. I never tire of that view. I would recommend hiring a car if you want to see more of the island and also for getting in supplies. You can walk to Kaminia beach which is magnificent and which was very quiet when we stayed in June. Our welcome from the owner could not have been warmer but thereafter he was discreetly in the background and totally unobtrusive throughout our holiday. The Villa was beautifully presented with good equipment, modern appliances and a nice pool which was appropriate to the size of the villa. I would heartily recommend this villa to couples looking for an intimate setting. On our last night the moon was full and the view across the Ionion towards Zakynthos was spectacular.

"Villa Aphrodite is everything we hoped for and more!"
On arriving at Villa Aphrodite, we were met by the owners, Patrick and Emmanuelle, who immediately made us feel at home, showed us around and provided us with details of things to do and places to see. The villa was everything we had hoped for! Quiet, in a beautiful garden setting, with amazing views out towards the sea and Zante in the distance. The private pool and garden furniture meant we spent a lot of time on the terrace, enjoying the sunshine, but the villa is well situated and it takes only a short car journey to reach the quaint village of Katelios or the town of Skala, where there are superb restaurants. You should be aware that the villa is on a large plot, which is shared with three other villas, also owned by the same couple (of which they have one). However, they are built in such a way that there is complete privacy and the well established gardens screen each villa from the others. We definitely plan to return!
