Villa Vassilis - 378
House | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Villa Vassilis- Fiscardo, Kefalonia
This recently built Villa, finished to the highest standard, enjoys breathtaking sea views and sits amongst the tree tops on a hillside of cypress and olive, which descends to the crystal clear waters of Foki Bay, an idyllic white pebble cove just 2 kms distant. Continue around the coast and the picturesque waterfront of the little harbourside town of Fiskardo, is just 3 kms further. Outstanding sea views encompass the islands of Lefkas, Meganissi and mythical Ithaca, home of Odysseus, and from the wide terraces , the steady passage can be tracked of small sailing flotillas, ferries and colourful fishing boats plying their ways between the islands. This super-smart, modern Villa is laid out over 2 levels with the open plan living accommodation and the master bedroom on the first floor and two twin bedrooms at pool level. The vaulted wooden ceiling of the open plan living room creates a cool light and airy space, augmented by two sets of French windows. Cool and neutral colours have been employed throughout and the comfortable L shaped sofa, contemporary dining furniture and wood kitchen units finished with shiny natural granite work tops all combine to great effect.
Through an arch, the decor of the first floor full bathroom, finished in wild shocking pink, works beautifully as an amusing antithesis to the otherwise neutral colour theme. The adjoining double bedroom has access to the terrace via French doors and from here the wide terrace extends, with beautiful sea views every step of the way, beyond the living room around to the partly shaded semi-circular chill out` area above the pool, furnished with rattan furniture.Gleaming wooden stairs wind down from the living room to the twin bedrooms on the lower level.
Here there is a smart shower room and a twin bedroom with not just one, but two sets of French windows to the pool terrace and a second twin bedroom with French doors and an ensuite shower room. Outside, this lower level is bordered by climbing terraces and which is where the owner, with a degree in horticulture, really shines her light and she has her heart set on an oasis of colour and scents. She also intends to plant salad vegetables for guests to enjoy.
The sparkling waters of the infinity pool (6m x 3m) appear to tumble over the lip into the forest below and this is the spot, reclining on a sunbed and armed with a good book or some music where days can slip lazily by. If you aren't barbecuing in then there is a little taverna on Foki beach serving traditional Greek fare and at Fiskardo 3 kms further you will be spoilt for choice at the harbour front tavernas. There is some lovely walking in this area and little beaches to be discovered all around this northern tip of the island.

The Ionian Islands region
Sitting off the west coast of Greece, Kefalonia is the largest of this group of the Ionian Islands. From its highest mountain, surrounded by a natural park where wild horse live, to it`s 250kms of coastline, where loggerhead turtles come to nest; Kefalonia is a natural wonderland, full of suprises. There are underground lakes, limestone caves, and of course many Beaches. Many of the longer sandy south and east coast now offer all the facilities that add to a holiday but with no building over 3 stories allowed tourism has been contained, maintaining a pleasant laid back atmosphere. There are many smaller undeveloped bays and little fishing harbours waiting to be discovered.
Fiskardo, in the north of the island, is unique amongst the other villages on the island for having almost entirely escaped the ravages of the 1953 earthquakes and so the old buildings still stand amongst the pine trees in this natural bay.
This picturesque Venetian fishing harbour has, of recent years, become a fashionable stopping point for some of the smarter pleasure boats sailing the Ionian. Fishing boats, selling freshly caught fish in the mornings will be seen tied up cheek by jowl along the harbour front with the most indulgent of sailing boats, play things of the rich and occasionally, famous . A choice of excellent quayside tavernas, serving fresh fish and other traditional fare, make good vantage points to keep an eye on the comings and goings in the harbour.
Fiskardo has a small pebbly beach in the village and others within sauntering distance. A pleasant alternative is to join the boating scene yourself, hire a small motor-boat and set off to find your own favourite piece of coastline.
