Villa Froso - 245
House | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Less than 1 km from Lakithra and 100m stroll from the village bakery, this exceptional villa is well placed for exploring the whole island. The placement and layout of Villa Froso and its gardens maximize on the wonderful west facing views with church bell towers poking above a canopy of olives, edged by the azure Ionian Sea. Inside, the decor combines tradition and comfort with tasteful effect. The Villa rambles in a spacious manner over three levels all with generous balconies and terraces.
On the ground floor, from a deep and shady terrace which borders two sides of the villa, three sets of French doors lead into the open plan living room. Equipped with satellite TV and DVD player the sitting area is furnished with two deep and squashy sofas; there's a solid wood dining table and at the far end, the pretty kitchen is all lemony coloured cupboards and terracotta tiles, equipped with every modern convenience. Close by, a small flight of steps leads from the balcony to the purpose built poolside barbecue area. There is a guest W.C. on the ground floor.
At the top of the house are two charming bedrooms each with French doors onto a large balcony, just one of the viewpoints from which to watch the sun sinking into the sea at the close of each day. The double bedroom has an ensuite bathroom whilst the twin has an ensuite shower room.On the lower level of the house and offering a little more in the way of privacy, is the very spacious third bedroom with a double bed, wardrobe space aplenty and shower room with French doors opening onto the olive grove with lovely views through the trees down to the coast. There is ample space for a 7th person to sleep comfortably on a sofa bed, in a small sitting room next to the double bedroom.
For an early morning swim, there is also a flight of steps which lead directly up to the pool terrace. The 9m x 5m pool is bordered by terracotta tiles and grass and shaded by olive trees which add privacy from a neighbouring house, occupied by its Greek owners only for a few weeks in the height of the season. This is top notch location for taking in the whole island, with the island capital, Argostoli just a 10 mins drive or inexpensive return taxi trip away. Also within a 10 min drive are a number of beaches, including Makris Yialos, Avithos and Lourdas and almost on your doorstep, theres a choice of tavernas and a minimarket in the village of Lakithra.

The Ionian Islands region
Sitting off the west coast of Greece, Kefalonia is the largest of this group of the Ionian Islands. From its highest mountain, surrounded by a natural park where wild horse live, to it`s 250kms of coastline, where loggerhead turtles come to nest; Kefalonia is a natural wonderland, full of suprises. There are underground lakes, limestone caves, and of course many Beaches. Many of the longer sandy south and east coast now offer all the facilities that add to a holiday but with no building over 3 stories allowed tourism has been contained, maintaining a pleasant laid back atmosphere. There are many smaller undeveloped bays and little fishing harbours waiting to be discovered.
Lakithra is one of a network of small villages and hamlets strung along a hillside clothed in olive and lemon trees overlooking the west coast. Not just a tourist village, although there are a couple of small hotels and a few villas but home to many and thus a thriving village. It's just a ten minute drive into Argostoli, so an evening in the island capital, strolling along the waterfront, shopping or enjoying a meal at one of the many tavernas in its wide tree lined streets can be followed by a short return taxi ride.
You'll more than likely fall into the daily routine of making a visit to the baker in the mornings, packing up a picnic and heading off for the day as there's no shortage of tempting sandy beaches within a few minutes drive of the village. The long stretches of sand at Makri-Gialos and Plati-Gialos, near Argostoli, well supplied with sun beds and the quieter beaches of Ammes and Ai Helis are all within a few minutes drive. It's a similar distance to pretty Avithos beach from where, if you choose, you can walk over the rocky headland to little Megalipetra where a picnic is essential as there's no taverna but you can leave your swimming costume at home. Within 10 mins drive is pretty Lourdas.
There's hardly a better location for exploring the island and Fiscardo in the north and Sami on the east coast make ideal day trips. If on the other hand all you really want to do is park up the car, enjoy your pool, your villa, the views and the sunsets then in Lakithra itself, as well as the bakery, you'll find a couple of tavernas and minimarkets.
