About the home

Villa Erasmia is located in a very quiet position, between Trapezaki and Lourdata (or Lourdas), about 1.0km and 2.5km respectively.

The location is ideal for exploring the south coast, and there is good access to the rest of the island.

Trapezaki has a good, family friendly beach and an excellent beachside taverna, and Lourdas has a long, sandy beach, ideal for children, with plenty of restaurants and tavernas. There is also a very private beach only 0.4 km from the villa, but with a steep path down to the beach. There are good quality restaurants within walking distance, or a very short drive away.

St Georges Castle can be seen from the villa, and is only a ten minute drive away. The Cafe Castro by the castle is very good, and a good quality restaurant is closeby. A short drive inland brings you to the Robola valley, with field after field of grape vines, and the Church of St Gerasimos, the patron saint of Kefalonia, and well worth a visit.

Travelling east will bring you to Katelios and the turtle beaches, a very special area of Kefalonia, and then on to Skala, with miles of sandy beaches.

Villa Erasmia is owned by a local Greek family, and Erasmia is the name of the owners mother.

It was designed with family living in mind, and is therefore very child friendly, with balustrading and gates between the villa and pool surround. In our experience this is very unusual for Greek villas, and a definite plus.

The first thing that strikes you on arrival is undoubtedly the sea view, which stretches along the south coast, and is simply superb. The second thing that makes this villa stand out from the crowd is the very private location.

The large pool terrace is totally private and not overlooked. On the ground floor is a kitchen/dining/family room with dining room table and chairs and comfy sofas. One of the sofas converts into a bed, which could sleep two children. A family shower/wc is accessed from the living area. The very light and airy ground floor double bedroom with en-suite shower/wc is totally self-contained, with a separate entrance and direct access to the pool terrace. Both shower rooms have walk in cubicles and shower hooks.

On the first floor is a further double bedroom with direct access to a very large balcony, a twin bedroom with a private balcony with mountain views, and a further family bathroom/wc. The bath has a shower attachment and shower curtain.

The owners of the villa are very committed to the successful letting of the villa, and during the holiday season the villa will be looked after by the brother of the owner, who is very well suited to this job, as he has two very successful businesses nearby, with restaurants and apartments!

Further details outdoors:
The pool measures approximately 10.0 x 5.0 metres, and has a fully tiled surround. The pool and terrace can be separated from the villa by balustrading and gates, giving a much safer environment for small children.

The pool will be cleaned three times a week during the summer.

There is a barbecue area to the side of the pool terrace, and a garden area surrounds the villa, with fruit trees and a strawberry patch. I'm assured by the owner that free strawberries will be available throughout the summer!

The Ionian Islands region

Kefalonia is cited as the jewel of the Ionian islands, a group of seven main islands located off the west coast of Greece. It is an island of natural contrasts from its enchanting shores to its breathtaking mountains. Kefalonia boasts some of the best beaches in Greece, from long sandy stretches to tiny secluded coves. Its geology is stunning, wherever you stay on the island it is easy to visit the centrally located caves of Drogarati and the underground lake of Melisani.

The Kefalonia / Trapezaki area

There are beautiful beaches within a short drive including Trapezaki, Lourdas, Spartia, and St Thomas.

St Georges Castle is definitely worth a visit, if only to sample the delights of The Castle Cafe, the baguettes are to die for!

Drive a little further inland through a delightful landscape and you come to the monastery of St Gerasimos, the patron saint of Kefalonia.

The monastery is very conveniently located for the co-operative winery, where you can sample the local Robola wine, and buy a bottle or two for sipping later on the balcony!

Villa Erasmia is also only a short drive from the capital, Argostoli, which is a must for at least one evening meal. The square comes alive at night, and there are many good restaurants nearby.

Going further afield, the North of the island has a special atmosphere, with Assos being one of our favourite villages.

Just fifteen minutes on from Assos, and you come to Fiscardo on the tip of the island, the only village with its Venetian architecture saved from the 1953 earthquake.

From Argostoli you can take the ferry to the Lixouri peninsular, which runs every thirty minutes in the summer, every hour at other times. If you're lucky you may see dolphins on the way.

Take a day trip to Argostoli and you can buy fish at the harbourside, and fresh fruit and vegetables at the market. Sample one of the harbourside tavernas, and, if you're really lucky, spot one of the loggerhead turtles that have made their home in Argostoli bay.

From late April until late October charter flights leave the UK on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, First Choice, Thomas Cook Airlines, and Monarch are all worth trying, and Easyjet are flying direct to Kefalonia from May 2012.

Don't despair if you draw a blank with the above airlines, the flight specialists such as airflights.co.uk or travelrepublic.co.uk will often show availability.

Out of season, or if flights are not available in high season you can fly Easyjet to Athens, and then the daily Olympic Airways internal flight. There's plenty of shopping at Athens Airport to pass away the time between flights!

There are several car hire companies at Kefalonia airport, and the car can be pre-booked on the internet to save some time at the airport desk. We would be happy to send further information on car hire.

The journey from the airport to the Villa is on quiet country roads through pretty villages for 14 Km, and only takes 20 minutes. Very detailed driving instructions will be sent with your holidy itinerary, and we promise it will be a stress-free journey!
