Villa | 5 bedrooms | sleeps 10
This spacious, cool and airy house can accommodate 10 guests (12 by arrangement) in one group or provide separate accommodation for two families holidaying together. The Walnut Tree has its own pool (10m x 5m - ungated and non-diving) and is set in landscaped grounds of over an acre. The accommodation is arranged on two floors. On the ground floor there are three bedrooms (one with french windows onto the pool terrace), a large bathroom and a shower room. There is a large living space, with seating/dining/kitchen areas and beyond a separate laundry/utility room with seperate wc. On the first floor there are two bedrooms (both with balconies) and a large bathroom. There is a smaller living space with seating/dining/kitchen areas with two french windows on the balcony which runs along the back of the house overlooking the pool terrace. All bedrooms have remote control air conditioning. There is full central heating and wood burners on each floor. The villa has twice weekly maid service and the pool and garden are fully maintained. Outside there is plenty of garden and pool furniture. Our guests are welcomed by our agent, Spyros Dorizas.
The Walnut Tree's central position on the island ensures easy access to Kefalonia's airport, the capital of Argostoli and other major attractions which include the cave/lake of Melissani, famous Myrtos Beach and the beautiful little port of Fiskardo. A day trip from Fiskardo will take you to Lefkada, Meganisi, and Onasis's island where you can swim off the boat. Activities available locally are sailing, diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, cycling, walking and a good deal of lazing about around the pool drinking in the beautiful views! There are plenty of delightful restaurants, bars and cafes within a short drive in Karavomilos, Agia Efimia and Poulata. Three kilometers away, the bustling port of Sami has ATms, post office, medical centre, tourist office, supermarkets, restaurants, bars and a variety of shops. However, the charm of The Walnut Tree is its peaceful position with wonderful views of surrounding green countryside, the mountains and glimpses of the sea.

The villa was built to a very high standard in 2005. The construction ensures the property stays cool in summer and warm in the winter months. Every effort is made to make our guests feel at home. All our linen is 100% cotton with a plentiful supply of towels (changed twice a week) and there are beach towels for our guests use. Our villa is our home and therefore we have not compromised on comfort or the quality of our equipment - our guests have remarked that our kitchens are the best equpped of any holiday home they have stayed in!

The garden was landscaped in the autumn of 2005 and is now mature and productive. We have a small vineyard of 75 vines, two areas of fruit trees (including peaches, nectarines, citrus fruit, pomegranates, greengages, plums, almonds, figs, apples, pears), another of ornamental trees, over twenty olive trees, a wild area and the grassed area around the pool terrace. We have a large terraced area fround the pool and a further eating/barbecue area away from the pool terrace. There is an outside oven and a gas-fired barbecue as well as a charcoal one.
There is a boule court, table tennis and a badminton/volley ball sand court for our guests' use. We have hung a hammock in the top orchard and there are fabulous views from all parts of the garden of the surrounding hills and mountains as well as the Bay of Sami and Ithaca beyond.
The Ionian Islands region
Although the island has high summer temperatures, on Kefalonia there is usually a pleasant breeze particularly in the afternoons (great for sailors and windsurfers). May and September are very lovely months to spend in Kefalonia with warm days and cool nights.
There is a wealth of places well worth visiting all over the island. Of course, Argostoli, (where the airport is located) with its shops, museums and bustling waterfront should not be missed. There is also the very pretty little harbour of Fiskardo (largely unscathed by the 1953 earthquake) and Assos, a charming little harbour with a castle towering over it. There are the island’s vineyards, the most famous of which is the Robola Vineyard – and close by this is the Monastery of Agios Gerassimos.
Kephalonia has a colourful history and is rich in tradition. It has many religious festivals and celebrations, including 15th August (Feast Day of the Virgin Mary, 21st May (Union of the Ionian Islands), 19th and 20th August (Feast of Agios Gerassimos).
A week or two in Kefalonia can only whet the appetite for savouring the peace and tranquillity of this island’s coast and countryside. Visitors at The Walnut Tree can soak up the atmosphere of the towns and villages, feast on Greek food with the many local variations, delight in Greece and especially one of her most fascinating islands.
Sami is a charming town and port - the main port of the island. There are beautiful walks all around the town, particularly to the lighthouse, the beautiful beach of Antisamos and (if you don't mind a bit of a climb) to the town's own Acropolis, some fascinating ancient ruins which are still undergoing excavations.
There is a very good riding school just outside the town. There are tennis courts at Karavomolis.
At Antisamos beach, there are all the usual beach attractions - windsurfing, pedalos, water-sking, etc.
However, the main attraction of Sami and its surrounding area is its delightful gentle pace, the olive groves, the sound of sheep and goat bells and just enjoying the wonderful views in any direction you care to look.
