Villa | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
On the edge of the village of Karavados, 2 kms inland from pretty Karavados (aka St Thomas') Beach, Villa Yianna has light and spacious accommodation laid out over two floors and is ideal for couples or a small family. It is no more than a few minutes' walk to a convenient minimarket and a taverna.
The open plan living area is furnished in a modern style with attractive and unexpected touches. The L shaped squashy sofa faces French doors opening onto the pool terrace. At the far end, the kitchen is equipped with dishwasher, 4 ring ceramic hob, microwave and large fridge freezer and there's a dining table and chairs. Through the French doors is a covered terrace with outside dining furniture, where most meals are sure to be taken, accompanied by a spectacular sweep of mountainside and distant sea views. The paved south facing terrace is furnished with sunbeds by the sparkling 6m x 3m pool. Although the Villa and its garden is part of the village, the garden and pool are pleasantly removed and feels surprisingly private.
Below the stairs on the ground floor is a WC, shower and stowage for the washing machine.
Each of the bedrooms on the first floor has a balcony with wonderful sea and mountain views. The double bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a semi-circular bath and the twin has a smart shower room ensuite. They are both pleasantly furnished with plenty of wood faced wardrobes.
Little villages dot the hillsides between the mountains and the sea and there is an excellent choice of taverns to be found with a little exploration. There are also many small beaches to discover in this area all with soft gently shelving sand.
Argostoli itself is an easy 15 mins drive and worth the trip for a walk along the harbour side, a little window shopping. The leafy square is great place to stop for a coffee at one of the cafes . There are some excellent tavernas in the town.

It's easy to see why this village, squeezed in amongst the pine trees on the foothills of Mount Aenos and overlooking a beautiful sandy beach has grown of recent years into a select holiday resort. A handful of tavernas offer traditional Greek hospitality and with a few minimarkets and small tourist shops, the scene is set for a relaxed holiday.
The beach below the village, backed by allotments growing a profusion of fruits and vegetables, is long with shallow shelving sand making it ideal for families with small children. Conveniently on the beach a few tavernas serve snacks and drinks throughout the day and make a romantic venue for evening meals with, usually, locally caught fish on the menu served with vegetables from their own allotments.
Along the coast either side of Lourdas itself are several smaller bays and coves, some quite undeveloped with no facilities and ideal for getting away from it all.
Behind the village, Mount Aenos the highest mountain on Kefalonia rises steeply up towards it upper ridges forming a wonderful backdrop and beckoning exploration by car or for the more energetic, by foot.
