The Ionian Islands region

Kefalonia is the largest island in the Ionian Island and sixth in size of all the Greek Islands. A relatively unspoilt island with about 30,000 inhabitants, the old way of life was shattered after the devastation of the 1953 earthquake. it was rebuilt and slowly is emerging to become a popular quiet holiday destination for those seeking a place to relax, enjoy the many beaches and delve into Mycenaean history whist enjoying eating the local food. It has one of the most dramatic landscapes in the Ionian. The scenery is so different form the other Ionian islands, fir-capped limestone mountains, an indented coastline with picturesque headlands, bays and peninsulas, inlets within inlets and quiet beaches.

Kefalonia is two islands for the price of one! Just a short ferry ride away is Ithaka, another island awaiting exploration with Homeric associations which lie around every corner. Very unspoilt and well worth a day visit.

Kefalonia

Amigdalospito is situated in the unspoilt north of Kefalonia with its hidden coves and unspoilt beaches. Fiscardo is very popular with the yachting fraternity and a great place to walk around the harbour, visit the many small shops and cafes or sit on the harbour side. Hire a small boat for the day and explore the small northern beaches and snorkel in the beautiful clear waters. Assos has an imposing Venetian fortress and small beach, ideal for exploring or swimming. The famous Myrtos beach is especially stunning when viewed from the northern cliffs on the road above. Agia Efimia is about 20 mins drive away and also good for sailing, diving and snorkelling with many excellent tavernas along the harbour.

Our nearest local beaches of Agia Jerousalim and Alaties have amazing swimming, snorkelling and good tavernas with excellent food. The sunsets from here are truly wonderful too! Other beaches within 10-15 mins drive from the house are Dafnoudi, Foki and Emblissi.

"A wonderful & peaceful get-away place, gorgeous house in small village"

We've been every year for the last 9 or 10 years and we LOVE it. A beautiful house with pool and shade. Eating outside on the terrace. Fantastic locally-grown food in the friendly local tavernas. Quiet coves & beaches near-by. And friendly helpful owners to help you plan any day-trips out you want to make. We'd highly recommend it.

Thank you for your comments and for visiting nearly every year since we opened our house to guests.
