The Paphos region
Paphos, on the western coast of Cyprus, consists of two areas: the coastal resort area (Kato Paphos) and the old town itself (Pano Paphos) which is slightly more inland. A former capital of Cyprus, Paphos has a history dating back thousands of years. Many ancient archaeological sites are to be found in the area of Paphos and these are included in UNESCO's list of World Cultural Heritage sites. Paphos is also the birthplace of Aphrodite the mythical goddess of love!
Paphos is very popular with tourists attracted to its beautiful old harbour with its fish tavernas and modern hotels, restaurants and bars situated along a pedestrianised seaside promenade. There are a number of municipal beaches, but Coral Bay Beach, 7 miles north, is considered the most attractive, being sandy and having shallow waters. Sun-beds and umbrellas are available for rent at Coral Bay beach. Beaches and facilities in front of hotels are available to the public.
Paphos enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate, with the greatest amounts of precipitation mainly occurring from mid-November to March. It practically never rains in the summer with average temperatures of 30°C.
There are plenty of activities to do and see in Kato Paphos. Apart from relaxing and enjoying the sun, there are numerous historical sites to visit. There are lots of good value restaurants and bars close by, with many shops.... in fact, a new shopping mall (Kings Avenue Mall) has just opened in Paphos which is about 15 mins walk away.
Only a 5 minute drive away, you will find The Aphrodite Waterpark, the largest waterpark in Cyprus. Entry is cheap and whether you are young or old, swimmer or not, there's something there for everyone. There's also the Paphos Karting Centre and Cosmic Bowling all within a 5 min drive.
