The Paphos District

The city and district of Pafos (Paphos) had remained the most underdeveloped part of the island until 1974.
The Turkish invasion and occupation of the major tourist resorts of Keryneia and Ammochostos led to major investments by the government and the private sector in the district of Pafos (Paphos). There was rapid economic activity in all fields but especially tourism and the district's population stopped shrinking and indeed showed some signs of increasing.
Cyprus has more to offer the visitor than any other Mediterranean island, a fascinating blend of landscape, climate, history and culture. There is a seemingly endless coastline of sandy coves and beaches washed gently by crystal clear blue waters.

Travel a little way from the coast into the pine forests , an hours drive in the Winter for skiing in the Troodos Mountains; experience a kaleidoscope of colours in the Spring time; meet the local people whose reputation for good food and hospitality is world-wide and you will discover for yourself why this magical island has been attracting people for over 9,000 years.

Birthplace of Aphrodite and in Roman times the capital of Cyprus, Paphos is one of the most beautiful and ancient towns of Cyprus and is situated on the southwest coast. Sheltered from the north by the Troodos Mountains, it has the healthiest climate in the Mediterranean. Paphos Harbour with it's ancient castle, marine and water sports centres, is lined with colourful restaurants serving fresh fish and marine delicacies. Nearby are archaeological sites, rich with antiquities, providing an interest away from the usual - in fact UNESCO has included Paphos on it's World Cultural Heritage List.

There are no private beaches on the island and Cyprus boasts dozens of European Blue Flag awards. The secluded sandy beaches are perfect for snorkelling and every watersport you can imagine.

If you want excitement then you may want to visit one of three world class water parks within easy reach that rival any in the world.

Or, if you want something more relaxing there are three top class golf courses (par 71/72) within 20 minutes drive. This property is ideally situated to enjoy all 3 golf courses and we have specific golf holiday packages that include this property for those that are interested.

Eating out in Cyprus is not only extremely cheap but also it's virtually impossible to eat badly. A lot of the locals and tourists too, don't bother cooking at home they just eat out. You can get full English breakfasts for around 6 Euros and even have a 20 to 30 course meal, the famous 'Cyprus Meze', for around 15 Euros.

You can have a different Cypriot meal every night for two weeks and never eat the same thing twice, or if you miss 'Dear Old Blighty' , there are Fish & Chips shops par excellence and even a Nippy's Tea Shop to be found.

There truly is just too much of Cyprus to write about here. The best thing is to just make the effort to visit and we guarantee you will have the holiday of a lifetime.

If you want any further information at all please use the e-mail facility and we will get back to you straight away.

Today Pafos (Paphos) is a popular sea resort with a population of 39.500. It is divided into two major quarters - Ktima, on the sea terrace, is the main residential district, and Kato Pafos, by the sea, is built around the mediaeval port and contains most of the luxury hotels and the entertainment infrastructure of the city.

Kato Paphos / Universal District

The city of Pafos, still usually written as Paphos, on the southwest coast of the island, is, according to legend the birthplace of the Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite. It was founded by King Kinyras in 1400 BC. The port of Pafos (Paphos) was built by Nicocles, the last king of Pafos (Paphos), at the time of Alexander the Great. It became the capital of the island replacing Salamis during the Hellenistic Period as its masters, the Ptolemies, favoured a location closer to their capital, Alexandria. This small and intimate development is set in central Kato Paphos and just minutes walk to all the activities you could wish for in this great holiday location. The world renowned Paphos harbour, the mosaic museum, Bar Street, restaurants offering all types of cuisine, water sports and the beach can all be walked to within 5-10 minutes from Villa Zephros.
Paphos itself consists of two towns, each with its very own character. Ktima on the cliff (Upper Paphos) and Kato Paphos by the sea (Lower Paphos). One is virtually unchanged over the centuries and thoroughly Cypriot, while the other has expanded over the last decade from a sleepy fishing village and harbour, into a vibrant cosmopolitan resort which is expanding and improving each year.

In Kato Paphos, (in the archaeological park), you will find many fine mosaics and buildings from Greek and Roman periods, plus the Harbour Castle. Close by, is the church of St Paul's Pillar, where the pillar St Paul was tied to can be found. Further down this road are the Tombs of the Kings and Christian Catacombs.
