The Paphos District
Paphos has an air of holiday charm combined with history, and older-day elegance is lent to the town by its classical style buildings in the upper part of town, which leads to the shopping area. The lower part of the town - known as Kato Paphos has a life of its own albeit so close by, down near the sea -home of the harbor. You have the beach and water sport facilities a short walk from the property, the picturesque Paphos Harbour with its fresh fish tavernas, souvenir shops, banks, restaurants, bars and archaeological sites, including Paphos castle. Pick up the bus from the Harbour and get chauffeured to the resort of Coral Bay 10 minutes along the coast road where you will find further entertainment facilities, Go Carting, Mini Golf, nightlife, shops, traditional restaurants and also the famous sandy beach, which proves popular with tourists and locals alike. The climate on Cyprus is typically Mediterranean, with long dry summers and short, rainy winters. The average annual temperature is 19 degrees but in summer it can reach over 40 degrees! The winter weather is very mild and frost is almost unknown, so the island remains green even in winter months. And from May to September the sun shines for around 11 hours a day.
Kato Paphos / Universal Gardens area
Go on organised trips on jeep safari, visit the bird park, boat trips from the harbour on the glass bottom boat, visit the Troodos mountains and see mountain Olympus the highest point of the island. If you do hire your own car there are plenty of good deals to be found, get into the tradition of Cyprus and visit the local villages and their traditional tavernas where you will be treated by the locals as one of family. You can always visit the Troodos with the family and take your time through out the day, visit the Kykkos Monastery, souvenir shops, walk the nature trails and take a picnic and stop to admire the view from one of the many picnic sites scattered through out the mountains. Also there are three bridges located in the Troodos, why not try and find all three, you can talk to many people who have never found all three, challenge yourself! A distinct British influence is apparent ..English is widely spoken and youll find yourself still driving on the left hand side of the road, so no worries there. About 200,000 people live in this small country, which is only 225 kilometres from the East to East and about 100 kilometres, at its broadest point, from North to South. However, the topography, from the dry central plain, to the mountains, to the coast and beaches, is dramatic in its contrasts. In addition, it has a wide variety of wild fauna and flora, and is a stopping-off point for many species of migrating birds and there is also a green-turtle conservation area. For the keen Golfer a 45 minute drive up the higway takes you to 2 champinship golf courses, Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley where you will fins 18 hole championship courses, 5 * Intercontinental Hotel, tennis courts, Spa facilities and a luxury clubhouse when you fancy a spot of lunch, serving splendid snacks and drinks. The Pafos Aquarium invites you to enter a mysterious underwater world - to experience life in the fascinating realms of the deep. Never before in Cyprus has there been an opportunity like this for learning about the mysteries of marine life. Now you can admire a spectacular array of colourful fish from different oceans, seas and rivers around the globe. Step into a wondrous, watery world in the heart of Pafos. The Aquarium provides a unique undersea setting of skilfully illuminated caves and rippling water; a marine ambience so inventive as to be impressively lifelike. Sea and freshwater fish comprise the superb range of species on view at the Aquarium, where no expense has been spared in recreating their natural environment as faithfully as possible. Making full use of the latest marine technology, the Aquarium boasts equipment from the United States that includes special filters and up-to-the minute water circulation pumps. Good weather conditions and a varied landscape make Cyprus an interesting road and mountain-biking place all year round. Traffic regulations are similar to the UK with driving on the left-hand side of the road. International road traffic signs are placed along roads and freeways. Cyclists are advised to avoid cycling along the main roads at weekends, especially in the summer when traffic is quite heavy. If possible cyclists should also avoid riding due west in the late afternoon as the glare of the setting sun can be unpleasant and potentially dangerous. Sunglasses and a cycling hat should be worn during the day in the summer months. In Pafos you can easily rent a bicycle from CYP5-8 per day. These prices can be reduced if renting for longer periods
How to get there
There are two main airports which you can fly to in Cyprus to reach your accommodation, these are Paphos International Airport and Larnaca Airport. The best option is Paphos International Airport as it is only 15km to Paphos town and universal gardens where this property is located. There are an number of airlines which fly into Paphos these being: - British Airways - Cyprus Airways - Euro Cypria - First Choice4 - Flyglobespan - My Travel - Thomas Cook - Thompson Fly - XL Airways - Jet2.com These airlines don't fly from all airports in the UK but further details of flight routes can be found on www.paphosinternationalairport.com or through the internet and travel agents. The time of your journey will depend from which airport you are flying however average time to Cyprus will be 3 - 3 and a half hours. There are many car hire companies in the Paphos region, some of which can be found at the airport on arrivals. To book car hire before you arrive can be done over the internet at such sites as: www.elephantrentacar.com www.paphoscarhire.com www.auto-europe.co.uk www.holidayautos.co.uk www.alamo.com www.avis.com Alternativley there are many companies in and around the district which are smaller companies and generally have cheap deals for your stay. With this property it is not essential you hire a car as you are within walking distance to the beach, amenities and a bus route, however if you are looking to explore the island this is advisable. Unfortunatley there is no public bus service running from the airport to your accommodation however there are many taxis which should cost no more than £17CYP or 29 Euros. On booking you will be provided with a detailed description on how to reach the property.
