The Paphos region

Paphos is said to be one of the most beautiful parts of Cyprus. Set upon lovely sandy beaches such as Coral Bay and home to some of the islands best archaeological sites it is a very cultural area with plenty to see and do. Visit the Tomb of the Kings these impressive underground tombs date back to the 4th century BC. They are carved out of solid rock with some being decorated with Doric pillars. High officials rather than Kings were buried here, but the magnificence of the tombs gave the locality its name.

Whatever your tastes there is something for everyone. There are over 600 bars and restaurants and clubs in and around Paphos. The food is good value and ranges from contemporary and traditional cuisine. There is a picturesque harbour within a 15 minute walk with it''s ancient castle, here you can relax in a number of restaurants or take a boat trip around the coast. There is diving and paracending available, along with fishing trips. Within a 20 minutes drive there are 3 championship golf courses. A short walk to the bustling old town and the daily market is well worthwhile.

Kato Paphos

The Municipal beaches (look out for signs) in Kato Paphos are good, with some facilities. A nearby one can be found by driving towards Kato Paphos, passing McDonalds on the left, straight over the roundabout with Super Home Centre and Debenhams on your left and straight on at the next roundabout past a night club on the left with a Paintball bill board on its roof. head all the way to the end where the road joins Poseidonos Avenue in front of the Amathus Hotel, Bear right, continue on the coast road and a Municipal beach is signposted on the left after 400 yards.

Another good Municipal beach with a beach bar and lifeguards can be found by turning right at the roundabout with the night club on the left with a Paintball bill board on its roof and, driving straight on the dual carriageway, past a big church on your left until you get to a busy set of traffic lights with Begonia Garden Centre on your right. Straight on at the lights will take you onto the Tomb of the Kings Road. Look out for Municipal beach signs on your left after 100 yards or so.

"Perfect Villa for families with teenagers - Great Location - Great Place"

Couldn't fault this villa. Travelled with my husband and 4 teenagers (16-18). Plenty of room. Lots of eating areas. BBQ. Right on beach. 20 minute walk to Harbour. Bust stop at end of road. Bar Street accessible for the teenagers.

The Villa was clean. Fully equipped. Pool was perfect. Warm and Clean.

Air conditioning worked brilliantly. As did the WIFI.

Lidls a small bus ride or long walk away but we used the supermarket over the road for small bits and pieces.

Great bars and restaurants locally and accessible.

Service for the Villa was brilliant. Thank you Paul / Amy and Jan.

"Spacious holiday villa"

Recently stayed at villa allanah for 12 days, villa was very clean and spacious. Everything was close by. Lidl was excellent for stocking up on food and drink at reasonable cost, approx 15 min walk, however buses are frequent at one euro. Harbour close by again bus journey in at one euro. Nice beach at Coral bay, however you will need to get the bus. Lovely restaurants at harbour, would recommend Theo's. Tea for Two is nice for English food, only 5min walk.

"Excellent Villa and location"

We stayed in Villa Alannah between the 7th and 14th April 2013. After booking the villa a year in advance it was defintiely worth the wait! My cousin was getting married in a nearby hotel and the location of the villa was perfect. I booked the villa through Jan and she was so helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay an enjoyable one. The villa was clean and spacious and the weather to match made it a perfect holiday, not to mention the helpful neighbours who gave us directions and advice as and when we needed it. Hopefully we will get to return one day. Go ahead and book this Villa - you will not be dissapointed!

"Most relaxing holiday we have ever had"

Before booking this holiday with Jan at Cyprus Villa Rentals we did a lot of research with regards the costs of food, drinks, other villas etc and did not find a massive amount of help so hopefully my review will give you a good idea of what to expect when staying in Cyprus.

Eating out:- Food in most restaurants around pharos Village were fantastic, the food quality was better than some of the restaurants we have back home. The staff are very friendly however sometimes a bit to " clingy" when trying to eat your meal. average price for the meals are around £15 pr person, chilrdren around £5. BUT!! be prepared for those drink bills!! for example we had eatan out 6 nights of the holiday and found that our food bill was around 60 euros but the final bill came to 120 euros and in the case of one restaurant next to the queen vic this was 1 glass of wine , 3 pints of coke and 2 pint of carlsberg so be warned very expensive when it comes to drinks.

Pubs and Bars etc. Considering that we just experienced paying nearly 6 euros for a pint of coke in a restaurant we went to a cocktail bar next door to pizza hut on the main strip approx 5 mins walk from Villa Alhannah, we went into this bar and had all the cocktails we could possibly drink, between us we had around 8 cocktails each and our bill came to 48 euros. Most coctail bars were like this and the offers tended to be really good. All the spirits are imported and the range was probably more than you would find in your local boozer.

Shops:- Because your staying in a Villa you will obviously want snacks so you will need a supermarket. There are two we can recommend within 5-10mins walking distance. The first is the Damon Supermarket, cheap for water, cigarettes (if you smoke) soft drinks but that is about it. If you want lots of bbq food etc go past the traffic lights, passing the Thai Restaurant and around 3 mins walk you will see a Tesco equiv store, lots of different foods and the meat is fantastic. We spent around 140 euros and had enough for two bbq's and two breakfasts for 5 people.

Taxis:- BEWARE!! When you get out of the airport doors you will notice a yellow taxi stand in front of you, if there is a women stood there with brown curly hair, run away very quickly. I swear whe could get us back to the UK quicker than the plane home! This for us was welcome to cyprus now sit back and we will hit WARP speed! Costs 40 euros to the villa approx 20mins or 1 mins if you get in that taxi!

Spending Money:- This is something we stuggled to work out before leaving as we did not want to take too much or too little so hopefully this helps you decide. I would recommend to you to take around 700 euros pr week pr couple with one child this should cover you for food for the house, gifts, eating and drinking out. This may sound a lot for some but you really do need to take about this much, to enjoy. If you are planning on doing activities beware that sea activities are not cheap and infact are a rip off! Jet skis were 50 euros for 20 mins. Amex Cheques not accepted everywhere.

The Villa:- Villa Alhannah is fantatstic. Lovely location tucked on what seems a brand new estate. Very quite, no traffic just relaxation. Pool we were shocked was very big and deep on the one side. Villa Air conditioning is a blessing! Will only turn on for 2 hours at a time so you need to reset when turn off, but providing you keep the doors and shutters closed when in use the rooms will stay nice and chilled all night even when off. Make sure you take beach towels with you or the deck chairs will leave a lovely patern on your back. Not one of us got bitten by any wasps etc, but be carefull the local dragon fly likes his dip for around 10am leave him be as he can attack, by time hes finished its around 11am. Pool cleaned twice a week, any problems you have an english family there to assit from Jans Team, we did'nt need them but it was nice to know they were around. Vila grounds are not like home it is very open so if you are taking children who decide to turn into Indiana Jones and decide to go exploring be aware they can easily get away from you if your not watching. One thing for people is knowing that you have paid for a genuine Villa and that when you turn up the villa is actually there and the key is in the box, it is dont worry!! please feel free to contact me by e-mail info@pandplumbing.co.uk for any further info!

"Wedding Bliss"

Hi Jan,

Yes the Villa was great and just in the right position for local amenities or just to have a quiet evening in!

The weather was fantastic and my son's wedding was beautiful!

I would not hesitate in recommending your Villa to anyone.

Thanks again for all your assistance and Harry plus Holly were also great.

Regards.

"Can't wait to come back."

This is the first time we have chosen a "villa" holiday over an "all inclusive hotel" for a very long time and we were certainly not disappointed. Villa Alannah is very spacious and although there were only four of us in our party there was plenty of room to accommadate six people.

We really enjoyed the private pool and the location of the villa is excellent. We were in cyprus for a family wedding as well as a holiday and although we did book a taxi to get us to the church the centre of Paphos is within easy walking distance. Shopping, eating out and visiting the sites was so simple and we didn't miss having a car at all.

I would not hesitate to recommend Villa Alannah and Cyprus Villa Rentals, where Jan was particularly helpful.

One tiny niggle - we did think there would be WIFI in the villa and although not having it didn't spoil our holiday it would have been useful to keep in touch with family at home.

"Excellent location and very well maintained property"

It was brilliant to not have to hire a car and be in walking distance of the beach with its fab bar and the town centre. The pool was amazingly clean and the house is very well equipped.

"Great time had by all!"

This is the first time I have strayed away from booking a package holiday and booked flights and accommodation separately which made me a little nervous. How wrong could I have been. Jan McKenna from www.cyprusvillarental.info was a pleasure to deal with and provided amazing customer service. She would reply to e-mails almost immediately and provided great detail to any answer I threw her way. We opted for Villa Alannah which was in a clean and tidy cul-de-sac of about 9 villas just of TOKR. The neighbours were privately owned and they were all very friendly. The villa was very spacious for our party of 4 adults and a toddler. The facilities were first class which included it's own private pool which was cleaned twice a week and I would recommend it to anyone. The location was key. It was literally 2-3 minutes walk from The Raffles/Phuket Chinese restaurant area on TOKR. We never needed to travel by taxi anywhere which is the main reason we booked this villa. A walk to the harbour was 25 minutes along the new beach walkway or 15 minutes past the Roman Hotel.

Taxi Transfer
Don't use anyone else but Rocky at www.iwantataxicyprus.com as he was excellent. He managed to provide a car seat for my daughter. He was very punctual and informative on where to go and what to do in Paphos and very competitive when it came to price.

Bus Service
First Class. It was 1 euro for a one way ticket or 2 euros for an all day pass. It went from the harbour to the water park or up to the old town or across to Coral Bay.

Supermarkets
We used 2 supermarkets mainly. Orphs next to Damon Apartments or Paps. We preferred Paps which is next to Debenhams at the harbour. Both were good but Paps was our preferred choice. Please note if you have a baby with you. We took across as many as possible but ended up buying some more. They were expensive at 12 euros compared to £5 in the UK.

Restaurants & Bars
The value for money was incredible. You could have a 3 course meal for around 13-14 euros. The set menus consisted of steak, chicken, traditional & pasta. For example if all 4 adults in our party opted for the 3 course menu it came to around 80 euros and that included 2 bottles of wine! Our favourites were Sysyfos which is a roof terrace restaurant, Farmhouse Tavern, Jackie Ma's Chinese & Metaxa's. We also ate at Fat Mama's, Phuket Chinese & San Marino which were all very reasonable.
We tended to stay local to where we were located if we went for a drink. We drank in Pit Stop, O'Neills, Tramps, Alfie T's and The Queen Vic. All equally as good but I have to mention The Queen Vic. It was a little quieter which suited us with us having the little one and Gary, Tina and the boys were very hospitable. They had only been in charge for 3 weeks when we first went but very friendly and I hope they make a success of it.

All in all a fabulous holiday from start to finish and somewhere that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
