The Paphos region

Paphos has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. It was a centre of the cult of Aphrodite and of pre-Hellenic fertility deities.

Aphrodite's legendary birthplace was on this island, where her temple was erected by the Myceneans in the 12th century B.C. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the site is of exceptional architectural and historic value. The mosaics of Nea Paphos are among the most beautiful in the world.

Kathikas

Kallepia is a village built 500m above sea level and situated 13km northeast of Paphos. This rustic and picturesque village enjoys commanding views of the Troodos Mountain range and Mount Olympus. Its narrow winding lanes enjoy a wonderful cool climate even during the summer months.

The village has amazing architecture comprising mainly of stone built houses and the stunning craftsmanship of the village includes wonderful pitchers, clay pots and the marble rocks which you will find at the Monastery of the Holy Cross. The Old Church of Ayios Georgios which is a well known tourist attraction is surrounded by plantations and vineyards.

Since Kallepia is very much a traditionally rural community you will not find it overcrowded with expatriates or holiday makers. In fact as far as amenities are concerned, the village favours only a single coffee shop and a tavern serving Cypriot dishes although many more facilities can be found in the neighbouring village of Tsada within 4 kilometers.

Golf enthusiasts will be pleased to know that Minthis Hills Golf & Country Club is only 3.2kms away with its stunning fairways. Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley Golf Clubs are also within a 30 minute drive.

If you are interested in the history behind wine making or just like the taste of wine then Kallepia is in the heart of the Vouni-Panagias-Ampelitis wine route. It is said that wine is not a new story to Cyprus and recent archeological excavations which have been undertaken on the island have confirmed the thinking that this small tranche of earth has been producing wine for almost 5,000 years.

Just 13km away is Paphos Town which was once the capital of the island and is now included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the town is of exceptional architectural and historic value.

The well preserved mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings are probably the biggest cultural draw with further archaeological discoveries continually being made. Pano Paphos on the cliff is the main administrative centre and residential district while Kato Paphos, by the sea, is the main tourist area built around the harbour and medieval port.

In Kato Paphos you will find the municipality beach at Yeroskipou offering both sand and grassed areas with sunbeds and umbrellas available for hire and a luna park for children.
