The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Turquois Coast is one of the most beautiful and popular holiday destinations in Turkey.
The weather is beautiful all year round and Turkey becomes more and more popular and valued. For those who like night-life and plenty to do, Fethiye and Bodrum are great for combining ancient sights and wonders with modern facilities. Marmaris is a more European style resort, but still boasts a lovely old town quarter.
The Lycian coast runs between Fethiye and just east of Kas. It is magnificant for nature lovers who want to hike and then take a cool dip in the Mediterranean Sea. Many historical treasures both on land and under water. The Gulf of Kekova holds an underwater paradise which was hope to the Lycians a long time ago.
The climate of Southern Turkey is very mild and generally warm until mid November. Many people continue to swim almost into December.
The Kas / Cukurbag Peninsula area
Kas is a recent name for the town that was known as Andifli until last century. It is a small fishing village but has recently developed to become a lively tourist and yachting spot.
Although there are more tourist coming every year, the town has kept its original sleepy feel with narrow streets leading to the blue see and plenty of little guest houses, quite caffes offering the best traditional cuisineFurther details.
The town of Kas has a large variety of wonderful restaurants, cafes, pubs and nightly live music. Enjoy wandering around uzun carsi shops and traditional Turkish/Greek architecture near the main square. Feel the part of the ancient history when you walk the pretty cobbled streets and view the tombs of the Likya kings on the hillside. Don’t miss the all day Friday open market event. Search for unbelievable bargains for fashionable clothing, souvenirs, organic fruits and vegetables. See traditional pastries like gozleme prepared in front of you by local villagers. Try homemade baklava, cheeses, pickles, butter, tomato paste and test locally produced items such as olive oil, tarhana soup and other tasty items. For beach goers, there are mostly pebbled beaches at beach clubs in Kas, and sandy beaches like Kaputas and Patara within a short drive. Kas has a protected harbor which is the ancient port of Antiphellos. Hire private charter boats, or take local excursion tours such as a glass bottom boat to see the ancient sunken city of Simena in Kekova, or to spend an afternoon visiting Castellorizo on the Greek island of Meis (bring your passport along!). Kas is ideal for scuba diving and charters are available. Not a diver? Consider attending a diving school in town. Other water sports such as fishing, kayaking or river rafting the gorge in Antalya, or paragliding should tempt you! Opportunities for hiking or trekking ancient mountain Likya paths is also a worthwhile experience.

This is my third visit to the town Kas on the mediterannean coast of Turkey and this time I've chosen to spend the week in a rented villa, rather than in one of the small hotels in the region.... more |
