The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

”Turkey's Mediterranean shore, called the Turquoise Coast, is nearly 1600 km (994 miles) long, scattered with fine-sand beaches and sprinkled abundantly with classical cities turned to picturesque ruins.

The Turquoise Coast is the first place to think of when you're considering a seaside vacation in Turkey. It has more and better beaches and resorts than does the Aegean coast, and warmer, saltier water than the Black Sea coast.

The Taurus (Toros) Mountains form a dramatic backdrop along much of the coast, often dropping steeply right into the sea, but in some places rivers have washed down enough sediment over the ages to form beaches backed by fertile alluvial plains good for growing cotton, vegetables, and even tropical fruits like bananas”.

Turkey Travel Planner

Kas, once an unspoiled fishing village, is now a relatively unspoiled tourist town on the southern bulge of Turkey's Mediterranean coast two hours' drive southeast of Fethiye and three hours' drive southwest of Antalya (map).

Despite dozens of new hotels and pensions, Kas (pronounced Kaash) still has charm, part of which comes from its setting at the foot of a wall of mountains facing the sparkling Mediterranean.

Another part of its charm comes from Kas unhurried ambience. Because it is hours away from the Mediterranean's two major airports (Antalya and Dalaman), it gets fewer visitors than towns that are more quickly accessible.

Ruins of the ancient town of Antiphellos mix with modern buildings in Kas. Across the water to the south lies the Greek island of Megisti (Kastellorizo; Meis Adas? in Turkish). You can go there easily for a day trip.”

Kas has two pebbly beaches, as well as a number of ”beach clubs” which provide free sunbeds and umbrellas on sunbathing platforms although you are expected to order snacks or drinks. The beautiful sandy beaches of Kaputas and Patara are about 20 and 40 minutes drive from Kas respectively. The pretty sand/pebble coves Limanagzi Bay are accessible on foot or by water taxi from the harbour.

"We really enjoyed our stay, the apartment is a calm, serene and fabulous place."

The apartment is very close to Kücük Cakil Beach and Kas's other beaches are also easily accessible. The view is stunning and breakfast on the balcony made us want to spend the day just having breakfast. Our daughters also enjoyed our stay I Baris Sokak very much. The only thing one should eventually bear in mind is that the entrance of the appartment is asseccible via stairways, so people who are restricted in their mobility might find it a bit difficult.
