Home description

Villa Yaz is a delightful new property on the exclusive Çukurbag peninsula adjoining the town of Kas. It was recently constructed by a successful local builder who is responsible for a number of much praised houses on the peninsula.

Quality of design and attention to detail are the hallmarks of this builder. A particularly beautiful feature of the villa is the high-ceilinged living area crowned with the beams and wooden cladding of an exposed timber roof. This is complemented by travertine stonework which spans the far wall and includes a centrally placed open fireplace. The feeling of spaciousness and ease created by these features is enhanced by the warmth of the terracotta-coloured floor tiles.

The living area opens onto the south-facing terrace and a beautiful view of the Mediterranean, the Greek island of Meis and a scattering of other islands. Nearest to the villa is a covered area providing space to eat and relax in the shade. Beyond, on the expanse of terrace is the ever-welcoming infinity swimming pool lined with mosaic tiles and fitted with underwater lighting.

Of the five double bedrooms, three have tastefully fitted en suite bathrooms and four have sliding doors onto their own balcony or patio. There is a fourth bathroom to be shared by the other two bedrooms. Three bathrooms have a walk in shower, the fourth has a bath with shower.

Each living area has air-conditioning and for the benefit of visitors staying in cooler months there is underfloor heating throughout including the bathrooms.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Kas is a calm and picturesque town nestling between the Mediterranean and the Taurus Mountains whose steep slopes rising to 500 metres protect it from the northerly winter winds. This is the most southerly of Turkish resorts and it enjoys long hot summer days and mild winters.

It is located in the region known as Lycia, the homeland of the once renowned people of the Lycian civilization who predated the Greeks and Romans. Kas was built on the site of the ancient Greek town of Antiphellos but remains of the earlier Lycian civilisation are to be seen all around. To find out more we suggest you go to www.lycianturkey.com and click on ‘sites of ancient Lycia’.

This is an area of wonderful scenery, fascinating history, abundant and varied wildlife and a gorgeous climate. The thriving town of about 8000 local inhabitants is large enough to be able to offer the visitor a copious range of tourist facilities but not so large as to have lost its sense of intimacy and integrity. Whatever your requirements, whether relaxation, adventure, or exploration, Kas is the perfect centre from which to enjoy a deeply satisfying holiday.

Kas / Cukurbag Peninsula area

The reputation of Kas has been such that many Turks themselves have made it their choice of holiday destination in recent decades. Now it is favoured by visitors from many nations who enjoy the fact that it is just a little too distant from airports to attract the interest of many package tour companies.

Excellent restaurants and shops are to be found in the older part of the town, a hillside cluster of buildings with traditional Ottoman balconies and stone-paved streets. To the west of the town the ancient Greek amphitheatre is still used for concerts and other cultural events.

Until fairly recently when the coastal roads were built, access to the town was only possible by boat; today boating still plays a large role in the life of the town. The harbour offers mooring for a range of vessels including gulet cruise boats which can be chartered to tour the beautiful coastline. A marina is being built which will offer mooring for a further 470 yachts.

Kas is renowned as the best centre in Turkey for scuba diving with its crystal clear waters and abundant variety of sea life. Other activities include paragliding, sea-kayaking, trekking, mountain biking, canyoning and jeeping. We suggest you investigate the site www.bougainville-turkey.com for a fuller description of what you might do on holiday here.
For serious walking or for a gentle stroll there is the 509 kilometre Lycian way which passes by Kas and is considered by the Sunday Times to be one of the ten most beautiful walks in the world.

Should it become necessary to cool off a bit we suggest taking a drive inland to the mountainous national parklands where trout streams and a wide variety of wildlife are to be found.
