The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Lycia (Lycian: TrmÞmisa) is a region in the modern day Antalya Province on the southern coast of Turkey. It was the site of an ancient country and province of the Roman Empire.
Lycia is a mountainous and densely forested region along the coast of southwestern Turkey on and around the Teke Peninsula. It is bounded by Caria to the west and north west, Pamphylia to the east, and Pisidia to the north east. Turkey's first waymarked long-distance footpath, the Lycian Way, follows part of the coast of the region.
The principal cities of ancient Lycia were Xanthos, Patara, Myra and Phaselis.
Kas / Cukurbag Peninsula area
The lovely harbour town of Kas lies at the foot of the Taurus Mountains and faces the Greek island of Meis, which nestles in the crystal clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Heading away from the harbour are a web of narrow winding cobbled streets lined with an abundance of restaurants, cafes, tea gardens and colourful shops. Friday is a busy day for tourists and locals alike as a large market comes to town offering a wide array of fresh local produce, spices, hardware, fashionable summer wear, haberdashery, bags and shoes to name but a few.
Kas is truly a resort which retains much of its traditional character, it is unspoilt and non-commercialised, whilst at the same time it manages to offer excellent shopping, dining and an entertaining night scene.
One gets a reminder of the rich and diverse history of Kas around almost every corner and in the most unlikely places. Lycian rock tombs and sarcophagus are to be found in restaurant areas, by the market grounds and standing at the head of one of the main shopping streets. The cliff tombs overlooking the town are attractively lit at night creating amazing views. Sited on the peninsular just a few minutes walk from town is a well preserved amphitheatre dating back to the first century B.C.
Kas has a mixture of pebbly beaches and beach clubs around the town. The main two beaches are imaginatively named "Big Pebble Beach" and "Little Pebble Beach"! Big Pebble Beach is located in a lovely cove and Little Pebble Beach is flanked by beach clubs with excellent amenities for swimming and a relaxing day by the beautiful clear blue waters. Located about a 20 minutes drive from Kas is the lovely sandy beach at Kaputas and a further 30 minutes drive takes you to one of the biggest and best sandy beaches in the entire Mediterranean at Patara. Other lovely sandy beaches can be reached from Kas Harbour after a 10 - 15 minutes ride by water taxi.
As the sun falls on Kas, the town comes to life, as the bars, restaurants and cafes begin to fill. The restaurants offer a wide variety of Turkish specialities, fresh fish, steaks, grilled meat, pasta, pizzas and pides. The bars provide a good range of music and there are a couple of lively dance venues. There is something to suit everyone.
People wanting a day trip are spoilt for choice. There are the archaeological sites at Demre, Myra and Xantos Valley. Daily cruises take visitors to the Greek island of Meis and the sunken city of Kekova. A trip to the gorge at Saklikent and to see the castle and archaeological remains at Tilos accompanied by a trout lunch at nearby Yakapark makes a truly wonderful day out. The Fethiye area to take in Olu Deniz, Calis or the Old Town are other breathtaking excursions. Kas itself is also very popular for diving, their are a couple of local diving schools located in the town itself.
Kas and the surrounding region has a charm and character that draws people back time after time. The friendliest locals imaginable add to the enchantment and atmosphere of this very special place.

Guestbook for Villas Manzara
Gary, Francesca & Christian Cook :
"After a long trip it was lovely to have the stunning luxury of Villa Irem and the refreshing pool. Thanks go to Sue for the greetings and welcome pack which helped settle us in. The hammock and pool went down really well with the kids who seemed to spend every waking minute in one of them. If you want to get lose to nature, Francesca recommends a swim with the 3 whales (white and the dolphin (Michael) at the Dolphin Park. The Turkish people we met were all very friendly and helpful and Kas was interesting to observe from the many splendid views. We particularly liked the Dolphin, Sun and Smilies Restaurants."
Paul, Lesley, Emma and Hannah Elliott :
"For our first time in Turkey we booked Villa Irem unsure of what to expect. After an epic journey we were astounded at the superb standard of the villa and the friendliness of everyone we encountered (our driver for the transfer even pushed the supermarket trolley for us!). A word of thanks to Sue for helping us find out feet (and for recommending the kebabs!) and her welcoming card was much appreciated. We really enjoyed trips to Xanthos, Patara and Saklikent, but we particularly enjoyed the inactivity of lounging by the pool. We found Kas a very pleasant and welcoming town, especially good for "people watching" in the Noel Baba tea garden!"
Emma Hawtree (aged 12) :
"We found Kas to be one of the poshest and friendliest towns, but be warned : be prepared to drink lots of apple tea - which is delicious! All of the Turkish people were laid back and happy. We had a great time and hope to visit next year. Enjoy your stay".
Wendy Hall :
"We had a perfect holiday - even wished we'd booked for 3 weeks instead of 2 for the first time ever! Beautiful villa, lovely surroundings & the sun!"
The Kerslake Family :
"First visit to Turkey & Kas and it certainly won't be our last. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday all thanks to the beautiful villa and pool, glorious views, friendly and welcoming people of Kas and of course the hot sunshine. Special thanks to Sue for her helpful recommendations of the local restaurants and beaches".
Shirley and Valentine Blake :
"Having landed in Turkey we were looking forward to staying in Villa Irem. When we arrived we were desperately in need of some shut eye, but when we entered the villa we became very open eyed at the stunning luxurious decor and standards throughout the villa. The welcome pack was very much appreciated and we would not hesitate to come and stay here again. Thank you David and Jean."
