The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The borders of Lycia varied over time but at its centre was the Teke peninsula of southwestern Turkey, which juts into the Mediterranean Sea . The areais bounded on the West by the Gulf of Fethiye - a port town and a popular tourist destination - and in the East by the Gulf of Antalya. - Turkey's 4th largest city.
The name of the Teke Peninsula comes from the former name of Antalya Province, which was Teke Province, named from the Turkish tribe that settled in the region.
The district has a typical Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and warm, wet winters, which allows the growth of oranges, lemons and bananas. The lowland areas are also planted with cut flowers and a variety of fruits and vegetables, many of which are grown all year round . The hillsides produce honey, and almonds, while at high altitudes there are extensive pine forests. The weather is drier at high altitudes. Although agriculture is still important, tourism is the main source of income in the district, which has many hotels and guest houses.
The lanscape is mountainous and dramatic.
The whole region is steeped in history with many still un-excavated sites dating back to the third millenum BC.
Kas / Cukurbag Peninsula area
The town of Kas is nestled between the mountains the sea. Despite being a popular tourist destination the town has managed to retain it's charm - with it's cobbled streets, alley ways, traditional wooden houses and flower laden balconies. There are many boutique shops, cafes and bars. The town really comes alive at night with a variety of restaurants offering traditional Turkish foods and many bars to sit and watch the world go by.
About 6 km offshore from Kas is the Greek island of Kastelórizo (in Turkish Meis Adas) which makes for a pleasant day trip.
The town of Kas has a Hellenistic theatre and many other places of historical interest; and it has spots of natural beauty, including excellent beaches, and a number of interesting caves, some of them underwater.
The region is a hotspot for scuba divers there are several highlights - one of them being an underwater sculpture of a shark sculpted by Kemal Tufan.
The mountains behind the coast offer countless places for trekking, climbing and canyoning.
The ruins of the antique cities of Komba (in the village of Gömbe), Nisa, Kandyba, Phellos, Istlada, Apollonia, Isinda and Kyaenai offer a cooler retreat.
A popular excursion from Kas is Kekova island in the neighbouring district of Demre. Here in the magnificent bays you will see a surprising variety of wrecks of ancient ships and ancient cities sunk under the sea by earthquakes over the centuries. The sea is so perfectly clear that the details of city buildings such as staircases or columns can be seen from the boat. The area is ideal for sea kayaking. In December 2006 Kas was added to the specially protected Kekova marine area in order to preserve its riches.

I don't usually write reviews however on this occasion I feel somewhat compelled to share my view of this excellent villa.
The description of villa Zarif is absolutely accurate. The opening sentence says it all really ie `Everything about our villa is the result of careful planning'.
I believe we were only the second family to have stayed at the villa and therefore everything had that brand new feeling. As a family we have stayed in many excellent villas over the past few years however we unanimously agree that Villa Zarif is by far the best to date.
The villa is open plan, extremely spacious, full of light and very private. The views are stunning, sunsets magical and the indoors, outdoors music system is a wonderful touch.
The owner, Erik, is extremely helpful and attentive. During our stay he contacted us to make sure that everything was alright. Cuneyt welcomed us to the villa and was very informative and Mehmet brought us our daily supplies of milk and bread, made sure the pool and surrounding areas were clean and generally made sure our stay was as pleasurable as possible.
Kas is a wonderful town, the Cukurbag Peninsula is stunning and Villa Zarif is the most fantastic setting from which to enjoy this beautiful part of Turkey.

"Great stay in a wonderfull villa"
The villa is at an outstanding situation at the end of the Kas peninsula between sky and sea. there is a 180° oversea view from the sunrise to the sunset. the pool merge with the sea and there is no neigbourhood or noise pollution. Welcome team is very kind. it is a very peacefull and rare place to be with childrens or friends. Garden and villa impressions are greater than the photo can show.
Magic Stay !
