The Kyrenia District
Kyrenia, with its famous little horseshoe harbour lined with restaurants and bars and dominated by the massive Byzantine castle, lies at the foot of the Five Finger mountain range. From here you can explore Northern Cyprus which is arguably the most beautiful part of the island and steeped in history. Nearby Bellapais has an ancient Abbey, quaint narrow streets with fine restaurants and superb views. St Hilarion, Kantara and Baffavento castles are also situated high above Kyrenia. For the most part, it is still undeveloped. With its crystal clear sea and wide variety of beaches, from the sophisticated to the deserted (even in high season and some with turtles or wild donkeys!), it is reminiscent of the Med before ruination by mass tourism.
What is more, it truly is an island for all seasons, with long hot summers and mild winter months. The people couldn't be more welcoming, the food and wine excellent and inexpensive and driving is still a pleasure and on the left!
20 mins to the west of Kyrenia, Karsiyaka village, with its protruding mosque, nestles up the hill from the main coastal road on the lower slopes of the highest point of the Five Finger Mountain range. Villa Trisca is located on the 'sea' side of this road, a short walk from the Square and Ataturk Park, where most Saturday evenings local wedding receptions are held al fresco, and where you also find a bar/restaurant, a couple of mini-markets, the local coffee and butcher's shops (large supermarkets are located a few mins drive away). A few minutes stroll down the road in the opposite direction and you arrive at the sea with various small coves and local fish restaurant.
The setting is one of complete tranquillity; you can hear the faint noise of crashing waves, the distant call to prayer and the offshore breeze whistling through the trees at the bottom of the garden which is especially noticeable during the full moon. Yet the coastal road into Kyrenia boasts a wide selection of restaurants, beach clubs/discos, bars and casinos and you will be spoilt for choice. In addition to the usual water sports, scuba diving and paragliding is offered and there is a fantastic go-kart track.

"10 nights of wonderous relaxation"
Prior to arriving at the villa the owner Fay made the whole booking process a breeze, from putting us in touch with a fantastic car hire company, to arranging transfers and answering a multitude of questions, over the phone and via email. The transfers to and from Ercan airport were prompt and allowed you to see the mountains, beautiful coastline and local towns that were all within easy reach by hire car. Villa Trisca was just gorgeous! On a lovely side street off the main coastal road. There are a couple of bars within walking distance, a butchers and a mini market, and of course the sea, it was peaceful at the same time as well located for days out exploring. Within the villa every possible need was taken care of, The kitchen had every type of utensil and gadget you could need, and having a dishwasher and washing machine was excellent. In the living room and bedrooms were standing fans as well as air-con, internet access was easy, and there is a fab music system so you can have music playing while you sunbathe or eat outside. I particularly liked the beautiful vaulted ceiling in the living room. The bedrooms are cool in the day and night, and had plenty of storage and loads of hangers (which was always a niggle with me in hotels). Now for the outside, the pool was fab, and maintained by an excellent couple of guys who came and cleaned it and topped it up at least twice over the 10 days. The garden is secure with a lockable side gate and was very well maintained with a couple of citrus trees, a fig tree and flowering bushes in abundance. Fay also has a fantastic villa manager on hand to answer any questions or pop over if you need anything, who gave us some fab tips on best places to shop and eat etc. I would like to say a big thanks to Steph for being a real trooper helping to make our stay so memorable. I cannot recommend this villa strongly enough, not only for couples but for families with children it is perfect. Thanks Fay for a lovely stay at Villa Trisca

"Comfortable, cheerful and convenient"
A big pool in a mature garden is the centerpiece of this comfortably appointed family home. There is a bakkal within walking distance at the junction with the main road and a marvelous fish restaurant overlooking the sea five minutes walk north in the opposite direction.

Excellent villa with beautiful garden. Silent place, no tourists, ideal for family vacation. Great nature, not so many peoples. 16 km from Kyrenia. Car rental is a must (approx. 20-25 pounds per day) Also, I recommend to visit to the market in Guzelurt (~40 km). Owner provides the 'villa manual' with description about all equipment in the villa.

"Relaxing time in beautiful Northern Cyprus"
We stayed at Villa Trisca in early April with our 6, 13 and 15 year old children this year. We booked via holidaylettings.com and kept in contact with the owner via e-mail. We received helpful advice from her regarding car hire and transfers, and used the recomended companies. The villa is set in a quiet village among other similar villas and local's properties and it is equipped to full comfort with air-conditioners and mosquito nets included. We arrived late at night, and we much appreciated the taxi driver recommending and waiting while we stopped for a take-away. We also found a welcome pack of food and drink essentials (including beer and wine!) in the villa, which were most welcome. A pay-as you go local mobile with initial top-up was also provided by the owner to make local calls and we did use this. The pool and the garden was well kept and clean. There are a couple of small shops within walking distance for the essentials, larger ones and restaurants within a short drive (10 min.) Sandy beach with bar within 3 min drive, other well equipped and kept pay beaches within 10-15 min. ( In early April these were free to use including sunbeds, parasols as pre-season.) The water parks are not open yet and the beaches and indeed the area is quiet overall. We had a couple of small initial hitches with the villa (internet had to be reconnected ) which were quickly and efficiently resolved via the local manageress, the owner and the internet company. The net was a bonus, as our 15 year old was preparing for school exams. Restaurants, bars, shops are open all day with no siesta, and eating with younger children early is no problem contrary to Southern Italy. Being early April the weather was warm during the day (up to 25C) , but cold at night (around 8C). At this time of year the weather is still a bit unpredictable and we did have 2 days of brief showers. Overall it is a very nice time to go to Cyprus as there is much to explore beyond the beaches in the surrounding hills and you can do it in a comfortable temperature, while the beaches are also there. At Villa Trisca you are 10 min away from hills 900-1000 m high, with lovely walks (the spring flowers are out, everything is still grean and fresh), picnic spots, rocks to climb for the children (and grown-ups). The journey through the narrow and winding mountain road over to St Hilarion castle takes about 1-1.30 min and not for the faint hearted, but well worth it. You can stop many times, there is even a tank in the hillside the kids can explore (all safe) and many spots to stop and enjoy the breathtaking view. Above Kozankoy village there is a picnic place with a restaurant and also barbecues to use. Of the beaches we would recommend Escape beach 10 min away, with a little island to snorkel around and hammocks in the water, Gold Beach is also near, with a pool and a diving school, fully open at the time. The border and the military: We landed in Larnaca, Southern Cyprus and the taxi picked us up from there. The border in Nicosia is about 45 min and the crossing took 5 min. There is a belt of military exclusion zone between the North and the South and some no go areas, but we found this of no problem when exploring.

We arrived at the villa after a painless flight into Larnaca, and taxi over the border. All of which was much simpler than I had envisaged. Our group was 2 adults, and 2 children. Our first impressions of the villa were spectacular. The villa was in an amazing location, although a car is an absolute must as there is not much within walking distance. The villa was very clean, the fridge had been stocked with milk, water, there was bread and cereal, which was much appreciated after our journey. The privacy of the villa is fantastic, and great for small children, completely safe and enclosed, which was a massive relief. There are many villa's sorrounding (but not overlooking!!) this. If you need anything while you are there, there is a villa manager who lives literally two minutes away, who is always on hand, to advise, and resolve any issues (although we didn't have any!!) The villa inside is like home from home- cooker, dishwasher, iron, basically everything you would ever need. It's also beautifully decorated. The pool is fantastic, always cleaned regularly. There is also sky tv if you need to get the kids in the shade for a while!! I would definately recommend this to all ages for a relaxing holiday in a superb villa with matching location.
