The Famagusta District

To get a taste of Cyprus 20 years ago the holiday maker must visit the Karpaz. The Karpaz Peninsula or 'panhandle' as the British called the north east part of Cyprus is a land where time stands still. There are miles of sandy Karpaz beaches with not a person in sight, even in the height of summer! (Ayia Napa it is not!) Ancient towns, basilicas, ruins and tombs scatter the area waiting to be explored. Be sure to visit the old city walls and dungeons in Famagusta and the ancient ruins of Salamis where you can explore a full size amphitheatre. Also well worth a visit is the monastery of Apostolis Andreas which lies within a nature reserve at the very tip of the panhandle. The Karpaz Peninsula has recently been declared a nature reserve and different species of birds, Spring wild flowers (including fields of wild orchids) and the oldest native Cypriots - the wild donkeys - thrive. Moreover, there are approximately 46 sandy beaches in the Peninsula which comprise the main nesting grounds for 2 endangered species of sea turtle. It is possible to see the turtles come to lay their eggs and the babies making their dash for the sea when they hatch, depending upon the time of year you visit Karpaz.

Karpaz / Yeni Erenkoy area

Yeni Erenkoy and the nearby village of Sipahi are small rural villages that time seems to have passed by. There are a number of small, family run restaurants in the area producing typical home made Cypriot cuisine at very reasonable prices (typical cost for dinner for 2 with wine for under £15); as well as a number of more modern restaurants catering for more European tastes.
The beautiful Malibu beach is only a short walk away with a gently sloping shallow bay. On the edges of the bay you can enjoy some interesting snorkelling. The public beach some 2 miles down the road has a top quality dive school where the both the novice and qualified diver can be fully occupied with interesting dives locally, or at the end of the peninsula.
The bungalow is situated some 5 minutes drive to the east of the village of Yeni Erenkoy. The village has an open air market every Monday where you can always find fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables. A short drive from the property back towards the village is a small family run 'supermarket' where you can buy fresh bread and village eggs for breakfast.
Famagusta is only a 45 minute drive away and Nicosia another 30 minutes further.
45 minutes drive towards the end of the peninsula is the stunning 'Golden Beach' which is 2 miles long and virtually empty the whole year round. Here, you can eat the freshest fish on the Island at 'Hasan's Place'.

How to get there

Fly to Ercan airport in Norther Cyprus, hire car essential. Property is 90KM from airport. Recommended Car Hire from Sun Rent a Car or Cyprus Paradise. (telephone numbers on request).

It is also possible to fly to Larnaca to get to the North. Contact Sun Rent a Car who will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Nicosia to collect your hire car. The cost is very reasonable and they will deal with all border fomalities for you.

The house is fully equipped for 8 people to live comfortably, in addition to indoor dining tables, there is outside dining at the rear for 6 people and a small table and 4 chairs at the front of the house. The bungalow is 5km east of Yeni Erenkoy, at the edge of a newly built village of houses, built in Cypriot style. A local agent is available who can arrange a welcome pack, will arrange cleaning and linen change halfway through the let (for 2 week lets, or weekly for longer lets) and has extensive knowledge of the local area.

This is a non smoking house, no pets, refundable breakages deposit required. Ideal for families of all ages.

Prices can be negotiated for a long let (4 weeks or over) or last minute bookings if available.

A deposit of £100 is required to hold a booking, the balance to be paid 3 weeks before the start of the rental. A separate bond of £50 is also required with the final payment which will be returned to you on confirmation from our agent that there is no damage or loss to the property and contents.
