Home description

Plum Garden Cottage has been sympathetically restored and retains many traditional features such as flagstone floors, exposed beams and rattan ceilings. It is furnished as a comfortable and practical home as well as containing cyriot antiques and artefacts. The roof terrace provides a view that delights the eye and soothes the soul.

The several areas of the mature garden provide sun and shade if you wish to wish to sample the peace and tranquility of Karaman whilst enjoying the smells and sights of the trees, flowers and herbs.

The Kyrenia District

North Cyprus is one of the few areas of the Meditterranean unspoilt by high rise and ribbon developement. The beaches are extensive and often lightly populated and the scenery is varied. The people are friendly and the pace of life is relaxed.

Kyrenia Harbour and Castle combine to provide one of the most beautiful settings in the Mediterranean. The town has a wide range of cafes and restaurants and the shopping improves year by year. Springtime brings out a mass of flowers and provides a delightful environment in which to investigate the antiquities, castles, walks and the varied scenery.

Karaman/Karmi area

Karaman/Karmi is at around one thousand feet above sea level beneath St. Hilarion Castle and the mountains. It is probably the prettiest village in Cyprus and the variety of buildings and plants makes a walk through its streets and cobbled walkways a delight. It is at the end of the road so traffic is very limited and often all you can hear is the chuckling of the partridge on the hillside. There are 2 restaurants, a shop and a pub in the village and several more within half a mile. A small holiday complex just outside the village has a pool that can be used as well as a bar and restaurant. A short drive will bring you to the coast road and provide access to several supermarkets, a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafes and the beaches.

How to get there

You can fly to Ercan in N. Cyprus and then about 40 minutes drive. Currently there are no charter flights into Ercan and only Cyprus Turkish Airlines (CTA) or Turkish Airlines (KTY) fly in.

You can fly into Larnaca in S. Cyprus and then about 2 hours drive. BA, Easyjet, Cypus Airways and Helios fly direct and there are plenty of charter flights in the summer. Check the website for your local airport.

It is possible to fly to Paphos but this adds at least an hour to the drive time.

We can arrange airport transfers and car hire. It is simplest to arrange to be collected from Larnaca by a North Cyprus taxi.

Further details indoors:
The kitchen, living room, bathroom and main bedroom are all on one level, give or take a step or two. The dining area is 3 steps up from the living room and the second bedroom is above the kitchen. Both the living and dining areas provide seats for 6 people. There is a large open fireplace in the living area and there are a variety of books, games and brochures on the shelves around the fireplace. Also a DVD/video player and a CD/radio with a very limited selection of videos and dvds. There is access to the patio.

The kitchen is equipped to cater for 6 people and has a large fridge/freezer able to handle appropriate amounts of food and fluids. There is a dishwasher and a washing machine.

The main bedroom has ample storage and contains 2 single beds. It has doors that open onto the patio and its windows look out to the garden. The second bedroom also has 2 single beds and it has a small balcony above the entrance to the house.

Further details outdoors:
The patio beyond the living room is shaded by several trees and a jasmine covered pergola. It has a table and chairs for those times of the year when you live outdoors and sufficient soft lighting to enable you to dine and yarn into the night.

Beyond this area the garden opens out and the paving provides space for more chairs and sunloungers amongst the trees, herbs and flowers. The walled area at the end provides a morning suntrap and a shady space later in the day.

A spiral staircase by the house leads to the roof terrace where there are sun loungers, chairs and a table. The trees and a pergola provide shade and the view over the village towards Hilarion Castle, Kyrenia, the coast and the mountains provides serenity.

Further details

A 50% deposit is required on booking. The balance needs to be paid 8 weeks before arrival and a refundable breakage deposit of £100 also needs to be paid then. We will provide you with an information pack and a "Welcome Pack" of basic food and drink to provide a snack on arrival and something for breakfast.

We can endeavour to make any special arrangements that you might require and there may be an addtional charge for this.

We can arrange car hire and airport transfers.

We regret that Plum Garden Cottage is unlikely to be suitable for someone confined to a wheelchair.
