The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region
Kaprun: Situated at the foot of Kitzsteinhorn, Kaprun is a charming traditional mountain village with a great alpine atmosphere. Lively bars, cafés and restaurants spill out onto the pavements in summer and offer traditional cosy apres ski drinking and dining in the winter months. There are a variety of shops including a huge new Intersport store as well as designer fashion shops.
In the summer Kaprun is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts with an immaculate 36 hole golf course, mountain and road biking, hiking, climbing, horse riding, swimming, the list goes on... There really are a huge variety of activities and events on offer whether you are looking for adrenalin, leisure or family fun.
Kitzsteinhorn: The 135km of slopes and beautiful vistas of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier makes it the largest glacial ski area in Europe. At 3,000 meters this is one of the few resorts in Europe that really has a thriving year-round ski season.
Zell Am See: Zell Am See is a smart little lakeside town, offering a great range of shops, bars and cafés and a pedestrian centre. There are over 40 restaurants to choose from with a wide range of cuisine, including wonderfully traditional Austrian eateries. During the height of the winter the lake freezes over enabling activities such as curling and skating. In summer it offers a range of activities including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and of course swimming.
Maiskogel: The Maiskogel is the little brother to the mighty Kitzsteinhorn. This family mountain with its gently ascending slopes is ideal for beginners to enjoy the long sweeping descents which end up in the centre of Kaprun.
Schmittenhöhe: The nearby Schmittenhohe mountain in Zell Am See offers long tree lined descents and numerous secluded mountain restaurants and inns. Take in the panoramic views whilst you enjoy great food, wine and cheese with friendly Austrian hospitality.
In the summer the mountain slopes are used as a runway for hang-gliders and hikers can enjoy the many scenic trails, there is even the option to end your hike in a panorama-bathing hot tub! Alternatively you can enjoy the unique 'Grill & Chill' experience on the Zeller mountain Lake - this involves up to 10 people in your own swish electric motored floating barbecue donut boat.

THE VOLVO ICE CAMP January 17th 2009
The 'Volvo Ice Camp' invites visitors to take a look at this amazing igloo world, covering more than 10,000 square metres high up on the Kitzsteinhorn. From January 2009 the main igloo which is twelve metres in diameter and is connected with many other snow huts opens its doors. Inside the bar and lounge you can enjoy a cheese fondue, hot tea or perhaps some warming schnapps. Activities include an outside climbing tower, night hiking and various music events in the camp. You can even stay overnight until April, sleeping in one of the cosy and romantic igloos.

Guestbook for Tauernblick 'Mountain View'
We had a wonderful holiday staying in your beautiful apartment and thought Kaprun a very picturesque village. We were able to ski at a number of places including Maiskogel, Kitzsteinhorn, Schmittenhohe, Saalbach and Hinterglem, trying out a wide variety of slopes which we greatly enjoyed. We found your apartment very comfortable and well appointed. Withey Family
