The Famagusta District
Kapparis is a real little gem, a peaceful and picturesque small resort with easy access to the towns of Paralimni, Dherynia and the resorts of Protaras, Pernera and Ayia Napa.
Kapparis itself has grown into a lovely little resort over the past few years due to the ongoing development of the Island. The main thorough fare in Kapparis features several restaurants offering british, chinese, italian and cypriot fare. There are also several bars and some supermarkets which cater for all your local needs.
Kapparis area
Although one of the smaller and lesser known resorts Kapparis, is becoming the centre of activity in the Famagusta area during the winter months too. In fact there are more shops and restaurants staying open right through the year in Kapparis than in all the other resorts put together.
The main street through this little town was once the main coastal road to Famagusta. Famagusta now a "ghost town" lies in crumbling dereliction just across the border in the Turkish occupied North. Until the the Invasion in 1976 the town was the principle port and possibly the most prestigious holiday resort in the Mediterranean. With its miles of white sand and safe beaches Famagusta was the jewel in the crown of Cyprus.
A few minutes in land is the bustling town of Paralimini with it's beautiful square and main church. The square is a hive of activity with both trendy cafe's and traditional Cypriot Taverna's where the locals spend the warm afternoons socializing over a Cyprus coffee. There are lots of shops if you prefer satisfying your need for retail therapy or you can just relax in the square and take in the atmosphere. Remember that Wednesday is half day closing so don't arrive there on that day expecting anywhere to be open apart from the bars and cafes.
The closet beach to the villa is Fireman’s beach, a small sandy cove with sun lounges and the offer of some water sports if you're feeling energetic.
Protaras and Ayia Napa are close by and offer plenty of nightlife, clubs, restaurants and bars and the famous Nissi beach in Ayia Napa, beautiful out of season when you can grab a space on it! However if you are looking for somewhere more tranquil, be sure to visit Cape greko, an area of unspoilt natural beauty.
For the family there are water sports, a local aquarium, plenty of local boat trips and a small water park. Ayia thekla has an enormous water park, ideal for all the family open daily from 10am during summer.
For the more adventurours, as the easternmost island in the Mediterranean, Cyprus is a natural point of departure for exploring this amazingly diverse region. All year round locally based cruise lines, departing from Limassol port, help locals and tourists alike get a firsthand perspective of the splendors of ancient Egypt, major attractions in Israel and Lebanon and, of course, the Greek islands. These cruises are typically of two-to-five days' duration and make use of Cyprus' geographic position to eliminate the need to book hotels in the selected ports of call.
How to get there
Larnaca airport is the closet airport to Kapparis and will take you approx 45 minutes to arrive at the resort. If you choose to hire a car, the road system in Cyprus is excellent and you will find Kapparis very easily.
The main flight services to Larnaca are ptovided by British Airways, Cyprus Airways and Monarch.
