The Famagusta District

Famed for its gently shelving beaches of white sand, and cystal clear blue water, the Famagusta district was the holiday destination for Cypriots and tourists alike before the island’s partition in 1974.

In fact the coastline from Famagusta down and round to Ayia Napa is littered with beaches of all sizes and types.

The climate is warm and sunny all year round, with the temperatures only reaching "chilly" during December and January, when beautiful blue skies are still in evidence.

The city of Famagusta itself is in Turkish control, and is well worth a visit for its long history of possession by different cultures. There are many small villages centred around the potato farming that thrives from the rich, red soil of the district - the "Kokkinochoria".

In Spring the region is beautifully lush and green, thanks largely to the farming activities.

Kapparis area

Kapparis is just south of the turkish Cypriot border, and just north of the resort of Protaras.

The area is lively all year round, thanks to the wonderful Cypriot climate and the residential tourists who live here the whole year.

The main road through Kapparis is home to several a la carte, high quality restaurants and over a dozen cafes and bars – in Summer you can eat out somewhere different locally every day for a fortnight.

If you prefer to shop and cook an intimate meal for yourselves, the local Orphanides supermarket is 5 minutes drive, while three convenience stores and a fruit market are just a short walk.

Less than a ten minutes amble from the apartment is the coastline, scattered with often deserted sandy bays and coves, the closest being Fireman’s Beach. There are watersports at Skoutari Beach, a fishing harbour at Ayia Triada Beach, and a romantic, Cypriot taverna overlooks Sirena Bay.

At the north end of the village is the Famagusta Viewpoint and Petting Zoo, while at the south end is the Ocean Aquarium. There are many more activities and beaches at nearby Protoras, and Ayia Napa is 15 minutes away by car.

There are too many things to see and do to list here - see the excellent http://www.kapparis.info for much more information.

Taxis from Larnaca airport use a meter, and will cost upwards of EUR 40 (£30 Sterling), rising sharply after 8:30 pm. You can book in advance for EUR 50 (£40 Sterling) one-way from Acropolis Vassos Taxis http://www.acropolis-transport.com.
