Villa | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 10
Welcome to Galpothuyaya!! my teenage dream made come true for you in my home town KANDALAMA. Galpothuyaya means Granite peaks in Sinhalese. This land is our traditional Chena (Organic-Shifting Cultivation) farmland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shifting_cultivation) cultivated by my ancestors from unknown number of years who lived around the Kandalama lake. While you embrace the rare beauty at Galpothuyaya, you may gape at the Sigiriya Rock fortress (8th Wonder of the world http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigiriya) and Dambulla Cave temple (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dambulla) Dip yourself in the cool waters of the Kandalama lake , take a few minutes bike ride to the Kaludiya Pokuna archaeological site and treat yourself to an uniqe Eco Lodge experience in the heart of the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. Moreover Galpothuyaya is located in close proximity to most of the other popular tourist attractions such as Minneriya Eco Park (Elephant Safari ) , 2 Hours to historic city Kandy, 2.5 Hours Trincomalee beaches , 1.5 Hours to Pasikidah beaches , 1.5 Hours Willpaththu national Park etc.
Galpothuyaya is a not a traditional hotel or lodge which provides just accommodations. It offers you much more , Since Kandalama transformed in to a tourist hub from being a traditional farmland, had disturbed the traditional lifestyle in large.
Traditional lifestyle in Kandalama was tightly bound with Wilderness ,now it's getting loosened and it is turning into a battle field between humans and the wilderness.
My main objective was to tighten the relationship with the wilderness and give my visitors the opportunity to get up close with the nature while making them feel Galpothuyaya as your own holiday home. The whole village around being my relatives and my friends you will be welcomed to their farm lands to have a look and to pick your own vegetables. If you are easy to connect with these friendly villagers soon you will be welcomed to their traditional houses or huts in the farmlands.
Feel free to start a conversation with this friendly villagers and share your skills with them. In return they may help you to find the traditional foot paths inside the jungle or to climb a nearby mountain and stay overnight inside a rock cave in the thick jungle.
I invite you to share my dream, to you to spend your holiday care free , get up close with the nature, the traditional lifestyle of my village and help for the conservation our Wilderness . Have an unforgettable stay at Galpothuyaya.

The Central Province region
Galpothuyaya is in the heart of Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka, about 160 km from the International Airport, this hidden wilderness isolation is tucked away amongst lush vegetation amidst the mystery of ancient Sri Lanka. The resort offers easy access to the nearby historical sites like the Dambulla Rock Temple and other cave temples dating back hundreds of years ago and the Sigiriya Rock fortress and the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, as well as short drive to the East Coast beaches of Sri Lanka.
Major attractions of the area include the largest and best preserved cave temple complex of Sri Lanka, and the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, famous for being built in just 167 days. The area also boasts the largest rose quartz mountain range in South Asia, and the Iron wood forest, or Na Uyana Aranya.
Ibbankatuwa prehistoric burial site near Dambulla cave temple complexes is the latest archaeological site of significant historical importance found in Dambulla, which is located within 3 kilometers of the cave temples providing evidence of the presence of indigenous civilisations long before the arrival of Indian influence on the Island nation.
