Although this is a modern condo, do not imagine one of those huge amorphous places that you find in cities. This is a country style condo, low rise, with nice open garden spaces and far from the main road. Absolute quiet at nights!
The staff are all very friendly and helpful and like all Thais, they love cats, so there are several very pampered animals for children to play with. If you come for a short break, a car is not neccessary as it is only a short walk to the beach or the village centre, but there is a free shuttle bus if you need it. If you are coming for long enough to explore the island it is probably worthwhile to rent a car or motorbike.
Plenty available. There are a lot of different beaches to choose, some busy with jet skis etc, others quiet and romantic.
For eating, there are several good restaurants in Kamala, including an excellent Italian one, or you can buy provisions in a new supermarket, walking distance away. The kitchen is equipped with all normal cooking facilities.
Patong, the main tourist beach and town, is about 15 minutes by car or taxi along the coast road. Here you find bigger shops, masses of restaurants and at night a mini Bangkok with discos and more than adequate noise!
The apartment itself is very modern and comfortable - about 120 sq m - with a huge master bedroom and glossy modern bathroom. The second bedroom is also also spacious with shower/toilet room. The main balcony is very nice to sit in the mornings or at sunset with a drink. Last time I stayed there, a flight of herons passed by every evening at 6.30pm. The second balcony is off the master bedroom, but I am not sure what to use it for!
The condo has one huge swimming pool and one medium size pool. There is also a well equipped fitness centre and a small restaurant that serves breakfast or snacks and drinks.
In short, I think that if you compare the quality of facilities offered here, compared with staying in a 4 or 5 star hotel, you will think it a bargain!!

Decor primarily black and white, with white tile floors throughout, black marble tops in kitchen and bathroom and black built in cupboards. With large windows in bedrooms and sitting room, the whole apartment is very light and airy. Free wi-fi reaches all rooms.

Seasons:
The high season - December, January, February is when all the northern Europeans come to escape their winter.The weather is usually wonderful at that time, but the beaches tend to get a bit crowded.
March till end May is usually also hot and sunny, but less crowded.
June till September is not quite so certain weatherwise but usually offers plenty of sunny days with occasional showers and choppy seas, but there are few visitors and it is my favourite time to visit. September last year was still nice, but by October there is a strong likelihood of heavy rains.

Smokers. Please do not smoke indoors but it is ok on the balcony with the outer doors open.
Short break bookings of not less than 4 days acceptable in low season only.
Maid service twice weekly is included in the price. Extra maid visits can be arranged at extra cost.
Electricity and water charges included in price for up to 2 week stays. Chargeable extra according to meter reading for longer stays
The Phuket region
Phuket is a beautiful mountainous and forest covered island, connected to the Thai mainland by a bridge. The west coast has the best golden sand beaches and Kamala is a small peaceful village a few miles north of the main tourist centre- Patong.
The climate is probably the most suited to Westerners in S. E. Asia, as it is usually hot and sunny but with a cooling breeze from the sea and not so humid as Malaysia to the south. Most of the coastal development is recent but Phuket town has a core of old buildings, narrow streets and traditional markets and reflects the traditional Asian lifestyle and is well worth visiting. There are 3 golf clubs on Phuket but the green fees are not cheap.
There are plenty of boat trips to Phi Phi and other islands and boats to take you on snorkelling trips, but note that the sea, whilst dead calm in the winter months, can be quite choppy in the low season. Above all else, Phuket is studded with wonderful , golden sand beaches. Some beaches are busy and active, particularly Patong, with jet skis, paragliding, water skiing etc, whilst others are quiet and romantic.
There is something here for everyone!
The Kamala area
Kamala is still a small village despite the rapid increase in tourism of the last decade. The main street leads to the waters edge and is the main concentration of restaurants and bars.
Surprisingly, there is practically no traffic and you can walk your baby's pram lazily down the centre of the street to pick out your restaurant choice. There is a very good Italian restaurant, two Swedish ones and quite a number of local ones serving a choice of Thai or western food.
Local fish, such as Red Snapper, are excellent. There are a few quiet bars and some more louche ones on the main road at the back of the village, but if you want a wild night out you need to go to Patong.
On the way in to Kamala, walking distance, there is a sort of mini Disneyland called Phuket Phantasea, Very nice for kids. At the other end of the village there is a small road known as Millionaires Mile, due to a number of very expensive houses and condos at the bottom end., which leads up to a high promontary with magnificent views. It is about 5kms and steep in places, so you need a car.
For walkers, you can go direct from the condo for pleasant walks up into the hills behind, including one walk to a waterfall.

Phuket is well served with frequent flights from Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong etc, but there are no scheduled direct flights from Europe. Air Asia and Tiger Airways budget airlines have frequent flights.

Myself, husband and daughter (age 3) stayed at this lovely apartment on our 2 week holiday to Phuket. The location for us was perfect with only a 10-15 minute walk to the restaurants and beach. The apartment is very modern and clean with 2 swimming pools. Julian (the owner) is lovely and always answered any questions that we had very speedily. I would definatley stay here again :o) |
