The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Kalkan is on the Turkish Mediterranean coast, with an average of 300 days of sunshine in a year. The area offers a wealth of fascinating historical sites and the magnificent view of the clean and clear Mediterranean.
Kalkan is an old fishing town, and the only safe harbor between Kas and Fethiye; famous for its white-washed houses, descending to the sea, and its brightly coloured bougainvilleas.
With nature still intact, and in the centre of the wealth of the remains of ancient civilizations, Kalkan is the ideal resort for those who want calm and relaxation, enjoy the natural beauty of the cleanest seashore, of rough mountains covered with pine forests, and also for those who want to explore the remains of the ancient Lycian cities in the neighborhood.
Lycia, "The Land of Light", which is the first known federation in history, included the city states between Fethiye and Antalya, and its capital was Xanthos (Arna in Lycian language), which is Kinik today, 17 km to KALKAN.
Kalkan area
The villa is located 800 meters from the centre of exotic Kalkan village, an idyllic fishing village with a charming marina where modern yachts mix with traditional fishing boats and gullets in a postcard pretty setting, where peace and tranquility are guaranteed. The cobbled streets have that special ambience of old world charm and retain their lovely, traditional Turkish character. Kalkan offers an extensive range of delightful and atmospheric restaurants, from the relaxed simplicity of local home cooking, to the sophistication of the fabulous harbour-side and rooftop restaurants. There are supermarkets (offering delivery service), butchers, bakers etc. Activities in the area include mountain walks, diving, boat trips, fishing, scuba diving, canoeing, tandem paragliding and white water rafting, which can all be booked at the Harbour. Kalkan is also an ideal destination from which to explore the surrounding famous archaeological sites, like the Lycian ruins at Patara,Letoon and Xantos.
Kalkan is renowned for its roof-top restaurants which offer a wonderful view of the town, sea and stars. There are over forty restaurants in Kalkan offering everything from traditional Turkish meals to international cuisine. Most restaurants offer an open buffet with a large choice of meze (starters) which is followed by fish or grilled meat.
Kalkan by night is exciting. Kalkan has many bars which give the town an exciting after dinner life. There are also jazz bars, other live-music bars, several popular small dancing bars with comfortable seating for non-dancers. The town centre transforms at dusk as it begins to bustle with activity - there is much to do: shopping, dining, cafés, excellent bars, or just going for a stroll along the twisting active streets or by the peaceful harbour. Because of Kalkan’s strict codes, a large amount of noise from the bars is avoided, ensuring a peaceful sleep.
