Kalkan is an old Greek town on the Turkish Riviera with small streets full of colourful shops, antique jewellers and historical buildings. The unique architectural design of Patara Prince Resort seamlessly blends the old with the new to create a magical place offering relaxation in the heart of nature. Patara Prince Resort is protected from cold northern winters by its location on the mountainside and throughout this natural paradise wafts the scent of the most unusual and beautiful jasmines, bougainvillea, and many other rare flowers.
Kalkan by night is exciting. The town centre comes alive at dusk as it begins to bustle with activity - there is so much to do: shopping, dining, cafés, excellent bars, or just going for a stroll along the winding, bustling streets or by the peaceful harbour.
Day and night in Kalkan can be either exciting or relaxing, whichever you choose. Plenty of daytime activities abound from sunbathing on beaches to the archaeological sites of ancient Lycia or meeting nomads high in the Taurus Mountains. At night the vibrant town of Kalkan offers fine dining, bars, plenty of shopping and more!
The Kalkan / Patara Prince Resort area
Kaputaş Beach, a lovely, sandy swimming cove nestled at the foot of a striking mountain gorge. The water is always a brilliant turquoise blue. Kaputas beach is 5 km away from Patara Prince Resort.
Another beach close by is Patara Beach, a beautiful 18 kilometre stretch of sand backed by dunes and unspoilt by any building. Nearby can be found some fascinating Lycian ruins. This beach is closed for protection after sunset as it is one of the few places in the world where the endangered Loggerhead turtles come to lay their eggs.
Saklikent Gorge, Xanthos, Patara, Kekova, Myra are all wonderful historical places to visit
If you are feeling more active why not enjoy walking on the Lycian way, go on a Jeep safari, horse riding, canoeing, white water rafting, sea Kayaking, scuba diving. If you like boats then you can either take a private charter or join an organised boat tour....there is so much to do in Kalkan.

We stayed at 12 Sunset with children aged 7 and 12 for two weeks. The accommodation was spacicous, clean, cool and comfortable. Modern kitchen and large living area with TV and DVD. Fantastic view from the balcony - twinkling lights of the town and mountains - no high rise buildings in site. The town is a mix of traditional Turkish shops/restaurants and newer cosmpolitan restaurants along the harbour/beach. Loads of fantastic restaurants to chose from and great shops. Patara beach is beautiful - so clean and unspolit with great waves. Beach closes at 7pm so turtles have exclusive use of it. Book a taxi there and back - although a bus goes from the town if you prefer. We did not hire a car - taxis so cheap and easily available it was not worth it. We found one taxi driver - took his mobile and used text to make all our arrangements - worked perfectly. The complex has three pools (one for adults only). The sea front pool has a small shallow part for children and allows access to sea swimming. Scuba diving, jet ski-ing, sofas, rings all available from the sea front. Steps into the sea - deep straight away so must be swimmers for the sea. We mainly used the children's pool at the top of the complex as larger children's area with slide. The beach club is worth a visit (5 mins away from resort) - phone them and they pay for your taxis - sunbeds cost approx 4 liras - no entry fee. Lunch was fantastic and reasonable and children loved the trampoline in the sea. Boat trip is a must - swim to the beach and cover yourself in purifying mud. We hired a private boat - 9 of us in total and this worked out cheaper than going on a bigger boat with lots of others. Worked out appox £200 GBP and this included lunch and drinks. We were out from 1030am to 1730hrs on a fabulous boat totally to ourselves and saw a dolphin too. Must be swimmers to fully enjoy. Market is a must - get there early because of the heat and start bartering. Lots of fakes but also lovely Turkish lamps etc. Fab fruit and veg stall too. (Supermarkets deliver to resort if you want to cook in the villa). Tons of lovely restaurants in the town, to name a few Trio, Aubergine, Doy Doy and of course Photos Pizza (just behind taxi rank) - who deliver to the resort. Lots of stylish bars and great shops/stalls and a fantastic silver shop. There are lots of steps in the complex so it is not suitable for persons who find steps or walking difficult. There is a mini-bus that runs constantly around the complex that is free to hop on and off. Fantastic spa in the resort - indoor pool, Turkish massages, facials, manicures - Cristina products. So so reasonable and a great service. There are loads of other activities - horse riding, canoeing, kayaking, biking etc but we just ran out of time. Thoroughly recommend the hire of 12 Sunset for adults with or without children - there is so much to do. Or you can have a complete chill-out enjoying the pool, beach and spa before you hit the restaurants/cocktail bars in this stylish part of Turkey. One more massive plus - sunbeds/umberellas are always available. Finally, Turkish people are so friendly and polite. |

My tip for the stay would be to walk down to the pools and to get the shuttle bus back to the top of the hill. |
