The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region
Kalkan has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and warm wet winters. The sea water rarely drops below 16°C (60.8°F), so swimming is possible from April right through to October. The hottest days of the summer are cooled down by the "Meltem", a breeze which blows every afternoon in autumn.
This area is ideal for exploring, why not take a day trip on a traditional gullet to explore the bays, beaches and sea caves along the coast; visit Kapitas beach, reached by two hundred-step descent down a cliff face; Patara, home to ancient ruins, is twenty-five minutes away and has a 18 kilometre long sandy beach and has recently been featured on BBC1 Holiday and the Evening Standard's list of 10 Fantastic Summer Beaches!
The Sunken city of Kekova is certainly worth a visit or venturing further afield you can hike through the Saklikent Gorge, explore the ruins of Lycian cities such as Myra, and Xanthos or visit small turkish villages in the mountains.
Kalkan is a small peaceful mediterranean resort and fishing town on the beautiful Turquoise Coast of Turkey. Sitting at the foot of the Taurus mountains, the town is a maze of narrow streets, whitewashed villas and small local shops, bars and restaurants.
Kalkan is renowned for it's excellent rooftop restaurants and bars which have wonderful views over the bay. For the shop-aholics amongst you there are numerous boutiques and local craft shops to browse in. Kalkan also has an excellent Dolmus service running betwen Fethiye Patara and Kas.
Kalkan is five minutes by car or ten minutes by boat from the Patara Prince Resort.

"A significant find"
We have visited several different towns in Turkey and had a mixture of successful and not so successful holidays. however this apartment in this resort in this town ticked all of our boxes. We are a middle aged couple that have busy lives and were looking for somewhere that was quiet, that we could relax in, that was also not far from a good selection of restaurants. After looking on Trip Advisor for a few different options a friend suggested Kalkan. From the second we made the reservation this had the feel of a well managed operation. The owner Nicky responded straight away to our reservation request and from then until we walked in the to the apartment both her and the local contact Sharon went to significant lengths to let us know they were ready and organised. The apartment itself is at the very top of the resort, and is 2 minutes walk from a small shop which is well stocked, and 2 mins 30 seconds walk from an infinity pool with the most amazing views over Kalkan bay. The apartment has 2 rooms and a bathroom the bathroom has an excellent shower which isn't shown on the photos anywhere. The balcony is larger than some of the other ones close by an offers good views of the bay. Everything that we needed for this holiday with the exception of the clothes we took with us had been thought about and provided for us. We stayed for 11 nights and the apartment was cleaned and the linen changed once during our stay, it all just functions really well. One of the big issues for us in Turkey has been getting somewhere relaxing and quiet, for us this was exactly that. There will always be the odd bit of traffic noise (and there is a teenager with a loud scooter engine on every continent in the world) but in general this place was quiet enough for us not wake up until 10 most mornings. The apartment is clean and well presented, a pleasure to stay in. Other reviews mention a large number of steps down to the main pool, this is indeed the case, however the infinity pool which is significantly closer isn't a great climb, it isn't however staffed with waiters and pool staff and I think because of this it isn't as popular, during our stay on most days we had the whole pool area to ourselves, again very relaxing. Klakan as a resort doesn't disappoint, lots of really good restaurants to pick from and the town feels more sophisticated than others we have stayed in. We tended to walk down in the evening, its all downhill and takes 20 mins, then get a white knuckle cab ride back after dinner and a wander around the town, the cab fare back is 15tl (£3.80 and cheaper than Alton Towers and more thrilling). Having been back in the UK for 24hrs now I'm missing it already, will we go back to Kalkan and stay in this apartment? Almost certainly, I cant think of a reason not to.
Hi Clive, many thanks for the lovely review, we're really pleased the holiday went well and you both enjoyed the apartment, resort and Kalkan. Very best wishes, Nicky

"Fantastic villa, location, and resort."
I stayed here with my sister and a friend for a week in May and we all had a fantastic holiday. It was perfect for the three of us and the view from the huge balcony was brilliant - when we arrived it was dark so when we opened the curtains the next morning we got a great surprise. The Patara Prince is a lovely resort with everything built on a hill which looks great from the water taxi. The large pool is lovely and the bathing platforms are a great feature. We even enjoyed building up our muscles climbing all the stairs ha ha ! There is a regular shuttle bus though so you don't need to use the stairs. Nicky who owns the villa is very organised and extremely helpful, she emailed every detail you could think of and arranged a transfer from the airport for us. We had no issues with the villa or transfer arrangements and thank her very very much for helping us to have a fabulous holiday that will keep us going throughout the rest of the year. Amazing place - oh and Kalkan is the most Turkish place I have visited in Turkey which made the holiday even more special.
Hi Carol, so pleased you enjoyed your stay, see you again sometime.

"Another fantastic holiday on the Patara Prince Resort"
This was our seventh time in Kalkan and our second stay at the Palm apartments on the Patara Prince resort, Our transfers were arranged through the owners and went without a hitch. The apartment is spacious and well equipped and situated at the top of the resort in a quite area near the resort shop and the infinity pool, the pool is open until the end of September and is a very relaxing place to spend the day. The apartment has air conditioning which was useful as Turkey even in September can be very warm, we stayed end of September beginning October and it was short sleeves every evening As the apartment is at the top of the resort the views of the bay are wonderful, and as you walk down to the bottom of the resort to make use of the other two pools and the platforms by the sea you can get glimpses of the bay and Kalkan through the other apartments, this really is a very beautiful place. The walk down to the bottom of the resort and back again is quite a long way but good exercise, if you don't fancy the walk then a courtesy bus operates every 15 minutes ferrying people up and down the resort. The resort is kept spotless by a very friendly and hardworking staff team There a several ways to get to the beautiful resort of Kalkan for a wonderful evening out, you can take the boat from the bottom of the resort and arrive in the harbour which takes approximately ten minutes and is a wonderful way to arrive in Kalkan, alternatively you could walk on the top unmade road which takes about 15 minutes this also provides amazing views of the bay and of Kalkan, although the road is uneven in flat shoes it is fine. After a night out there is really only one way back, which is by taxi, this takes five minutes and costs next to nothing. Kalkan itself is a very friendly bustling little place that sits on the side of a mountain and is made up of narrow streets that are lined with restaurants and small shops, the streets eventually wind their way down to a very picturesque harbour. There are many restaurants in the town serving both Turkish and Mediterranean food, we ate out every night and did not have a bad meal, the service was excellent. Although Kalkan is a very peaceful place there is lots to do and see and the restaurants / bars happily stay open until the small hours.
We're so pleased you both had a great time, see you next year!

Palm Tree 227 is a lovely apartment which provided us with everything we needed during our 11 day stay. Its location at the top of the resort was perfect because it was quiet, near the shop, infinity pool and the road into Kalkan. The property, which has a larger balcony than similar apartments in the area also benefits from spectacular views. It was kept very clean, the linen and towels were changed regularly. Tracy who manages the property was easily contactable if you needed to query anything. We didn’t eat at the resort as Kalkan offers such a wide range of superb, affordable restaurants, we did buy bread and basics from the shop on the complex for breakfast. The sun bathing platforms next to the sea were a favourite of ours, the sea was crystal clear and great for snorkelling. As Patara Price is set on the mountain side there are lots of steps which could cause a problem to someone who is not very mobile but there’s a free shuttle bus running frequently around the resort and a shuttle boat which takes you from the sea front to Kalkan harbour for 5 lira. I would most definitely recommend this apartment and this resort to others.
We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay and would love to see you again another time.
