Enquire nowThe Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
If you are interested in sightseeing there are some fascinating ancient sites to visit.
Xanthos: The old Lycian capital (approximately 21km from Kalkan), was buried under an ancient earthquake and is still being excavated today. You will see a magnificent amphitheatre, several monuments and the ruins of a large church with some clearly visible coloured mosaics.
Letoon: This was an important religious centre for the ancient Lycian people and has remains of temples to Leto, Artemis and Apollo. It also has an amphitheatre and the remains of many other buildings. Letoon is approximately 25km away from Kalkan.
Kekova: A day trip to Kekova, Ucagiz and Kale could be the highlight of your stay in the Lycian region. Usually reached by boat from Kalkan or nearby Kas, this little bit of the coast is full of history and surprises. By road, Kekova is approximately 40km away from Kalkan. A typical day trip will include the sites of three ancient cities - Aperlae,Teimiussa and Simena (Kale). The island of Kekova will probably be the next stop on the itinerary and here you will be able to see the remains of buildings beneath your boat. A couple of swimming/snorkelling stops are usually scheduled also.
Saklikent: This is home to the rushing torrent of the Xanthos river, which has carved itself into the rock. With the aid of a guide and a ropeway, it is quite safe to enter the gorge if you don't mind getting wet - a great way to cool off on a scorching hot day.
The Kalkan / Kisla area
The season runs from April through to November and there's rarely a day when the sun doesn't shine. Kalkan is considered to be one of Turkeys most sophisticated resorts and is fast becoming the country's premier resort for private Villa holidays.
It appeals to the more discerning tourist, the kind of visitor who would enjoy Tuscany or the Dordogne.. Kalkan has been likened to a Cornish fishing village, with twisting, narrow cobbled streets, leading down to the harbour. Carved Ottoman timber balcony's are garlanded with masses of brilliantly coloured bougainvillea cascading to the streets below. It is a very special place with a unique atmosphere.
Kalkan is said to have the highest number of restaurants and bars per square metre on the Turkish coast (over 100 of them) Almost every hotel and pension has it's own rooftop or terrace bar serving all kinds of international drinks and cocktails. The food served in the restaurants is of an unrivalled quality attracting many top chefs to the area.It is diverse in nature serving everything from authentic Ottoman cuisine through European dishes to contemporary Thai fusion.

| Airport: | Dalaman: 110 km |
Dalaman is the nearest airport and there are daily flights from most UK airports in the summer season.
Easyjet, Thomas Cook and Monarch all fly there, a good site to look at is www.Travelrepublic.co.uk for a price comparison. Transfer time is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.
Antalya airport is a good alternative but a longer transfer (approx. 3 hours) BA fly into Antalya three days a week.
We recommend you book your transfer from the airport through Enes cars in Kalkan. The price for a car to take 3/4 passengers is £55 (2009 prices) a people carrier to take up to 7 is £65, and a mini bus that can take up to 14 is £85 (payable in sterling to the driver at destination).

Built, designed and equipped/furnished to the very highest of standards. Stunning views with all-day sunshine and dramatic sunsets, but not quite as private as we had anticipated due to proximity of other properties. The master bedroom is fantastic but we found the air-conditioning to be less than effective and we'd advise you to get clear instructions on its use from the local rep. This room is very large with an open plan staircase so it will never be as cool as the downstairs bedrooms, which were more than adequately air-conditioned and extremely well appointed, with a well furnished shared balcony and equally exceptional views. However, a word of warning about the Ottoman Room. Although furnished to the same high standard there is no sea view, and in fact no view at all, and it is very dark. With a different access point it feels quite separate from the rest of the villa and if you did have a party of 10 those guests using the Ottoman Room would feel disadavantaged - so take this into account before booking for a large party. The owners have told us that the problem partly relates to illegal building next door and that this is due to be rectified later this year, but even so, the Ottoman Room will always be inferior to the other bedrooms. The kitchen is very well equipped and we booked a local chef (Kazim) to cook for us one night and this worked really well - and no more expensive than you'd pay in a restaurant. Google "chefs at home" to find him. Our local tips - the Agora restaurant in Kalkan; an early morning trip to the ruins at Kaunos - but you will need a car for this; Adam's Restaurant, a couple of miles along the Kas road (Adam will collect and return you at the end of the evening); the beach at Kaputas, and especially the family-run pancake cafe under the awning - don't miss it. For us, Kalkan was just a bit too much of a tourist hotspot, with nothing but restaurants and shops. It was too hot attempt the walk into town, or even the walk down to the beach club for the water-taxi and we felt that the hired car was very useful, although technically not essential. If you don't have a car, be prepared to use taxi's. We didn't attempt to walk into town because of the heat but the access wasn't that straight forward. However, if you want a luxury villa with views of a spectacular coastline then this is for you. |
