The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
This beautiful Mediteranean area is steeped in history with many Lycian historical places such as Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Tlos and Patara within easy reach. The harbour town of Kas is only 25 minutes drive away and it is a major halting point on 'blue Cruises' itineraries, and yacht and gulet cutlure.
The Lycian coastline is of great beauty and worth exploring by car. It is a must to visit the Patara beach (25 minutes away), a 18 kilometres white sandy beach which has recently been described.
Kalkan is on the Lycian coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Historical sites and trail walks in the mountains are easily accessible. The impressive Saklikent Gorge is nearby. There are numerous outdoor sports including canoeing, snorkelling, sailing, para-gliding and scuba diving. Family horse riding treks can easily be arranged in the mountains with the opportunity to meet local Turkish families and taste home cooked food.
For the less ambitious there are the ancient cobbled streets of Kalkan to visit. With boutiques and interesting shops and markets there is plenty to do. At night Kalkan comes alive and you are literally spoilt for choice with a vast array of reasonably priced restaurants and bars
Kalkan / Komurluk area
Kalkan has an air of tranquillity that other's have lost, narrow paved streets lined with vine covered cafe's and small shops lead you down to the harbour where you can sit in the shade and watch the boats leaving the harbour.
At night Kalkan offers excellent cuisine from the many roof top restaurants. For the young at heart visit a choice of bars and dance the night away under the stars.
Kalkan has a market on a Thursday from dawn to dusk where you can buy locally produced veg, fruit, dairy produce, your usual "cheap as chips" fake designer wear, spices, pottery and handbags.
You will find various excursions operating from Kalkan, visiting many historical sites, towns and mountain villages, you can hire a boat for the day and visit different coves.
Visit the sunken city at Kekova where you can still see the remains of a Roman harbour, or explore the spectacular Sakilkent Gorge the longest and deepest in Turkey.
Fethiye offers the largest market in the area and has an excellent gold centre. Canoeing, horse riding, fishing all available.............or just relax by the pool!
