The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
KALKAN A small peaceful Mediterranean resort and fishing town on the beautiful Turquoise Coast of Turkey, Kalkan has not been touched by mass tourism. More sophisticated than the usual resort town, Kalkan appeals to travelers looking for more than a "sun and sea" holiday. Because of its great charm, Kalkan has a growing number of perennial visitors who say the town is the only holiday destination they would choose to visit repeatedly. There is simply no other town quite like Kalkan along Turkey's coast Kalkan curls snuggly around an ancient harbour sheltered at the foot of the towering Taurus Mountains. The climate here is fabulous. Long hot Summers and mild Winters Only 15 minutes away from the resort you may find the world's most outstanding and unspoiled historical and archeological sites like Xanthos, Sydima, Pinara, Myra, Sunken City Kekova, Saklikent Gorge and Patara. ANTIPHELLOS Today's Kas is a coastal city of the Lycians. "Phellos" is the Greek word for "stony place" and this name is very well suited to Kas. Its well preserved rock tombs and theater are well worth seeing. Kas today is a small and charming coastal resort. Continuing west out of Kekova, you come to Kas, a lovely spot surrounded on three sides by mountains. The friendly local fishermen are happy to run a water taxi service to take you to a favourite bay, cove or beach along the coast. The swimming and diving are excellent in the clear cool water around Kas PATARA At about 10 km. beyond Kalkan on the Kalkan-Fethiye highway you turn south and continue 10 km. along the road to Patara. The painted ceramics found in the acropolis prove that the city existed in the 5th century B.C. Patara opened its doors to Alexander the Great, thereby earning the status of an important harbor city, in addition to having been the birthplace of St. Nicholas. The triple gateway through which one enters Patara is thought to have been built in 100 A.D. One of its most important edifices is its theatre which is now buried in sand. XANTHOS This is the oldest and the largest city of the mountain province of Lycia, settled in the valley of the Xanthos river. Until the Persian invasion it was an independent state. When the people of Xanthos, who had bravely tried to defend their city, realized that they could not repulse the invasion, they first killed their women committed mass suicide by throwing themselves into the flames. About 80 surviving families and people who immigrated there rebuilt the city, but a fire which broke out about 100 years later razed it to the ground. In spite of this, the city was again rebuilt and, as a result of establishing good relations with the west, was considered as an important centre. LETOON To reach Letoon, you turn west one kilometer beyond the road from Kýnýk to Fethiye and continue 1 km. The history of Letoon is closely linked with that of Xanthos. It is known to have been one of the most important religious centres of the Lycian region. Due to the rising water level, archeological digs have been suspended. The remains unearthed indicate they belong to the period between the 7th century B.C. and the 6th century A.D. The most important edifice is the Greek style theater which has been preserved until our day. DEMRE & ST. NICOLAS Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, Noel Baba... whatever you call the beloved symbol of Christmas, you probably imagine him living in the North Pole, surrounded by elves and reindeer. But the real St. Nicholas lived in a warm, sunny town on the Mediterranean Sea, in what is now Turkey
Kalkan area
SCUBA DIVING The resort has a scuba diving school and the surrounding waters are blue flag awarded with amazing marine life and loggerhead turtles. Visited by top class divers. BLUE CRUISE "Explore the spectacular coves with crystal waters while your boat is roped to a pine tree shading you like an umbrella.." The Blue Cruise or Blue Voyage is a unique cruising and yachting experience in the Aegean waters of Turkey, an adventure that takes you to the magic of myths three millennia old, a relaxing vacation under the sun and swim in the Turquoise blue of the crystal clear waters, and an opportunity to taste Turkish cuisine..
During the Blue Cruise, most of the places you will visit has the wealth of civilizations and the culture is overwhelming: the archeological remains of ancient civilizations (even under sea). But besides this, only Blue Cruise will give you the second chance to make you realize there is so much to discover that you forget about yourself. HUNTING Patara Prince Resort is only minutes away from the Taurus Mountains, which are well known by its wild boars and other animals.

Kalkan could perhaps be described as the Mykanos of Turkey. A beautiful resort where you can choose to be as laid back or lively as you prefer. The Kalkan Prince Appt provides an excellent chance to taste the millionaire lifestyle without the hefty pricetag. We would highly recommend it to any like minded couple (possibly with a couple of youngsters). It would also be great for solo travellers as they would particularly benefit from the facilities and security at the Patara. Booking Experience - Excellent quick and very professional Apartment feedback - Accurately described, the view was a lovely surprise and even better than expected, very well cleaned and well equipped Resort Feedback - Marvellous pools and gardens, and loved the water taxi and Capatin Dan. The apartment had a lot of character, fantastic view, well equipped and good location near the shop, tennis courts and swimming pool. Town walking distance but very easy to order taxi through the security guard and cheap. The town of Kalkan is very pretty, people are friendly and the restaurants are of a very high standard. We will certainly visit again. Sue Webb [Aug 2006]
Our stay at the Prince Patara Resort was simply wonderful. The apartment was spacious and fully equipped, and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. We spent several days just lounging by the beautiful blue sea, swimming in the pool, and relaxing on the balcony. The on-site restaurants served fantastic food and the resort staff were very friendly and helpful. Booking the apartment online was easy and the owner was helpful in arranging transportation to the resort. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Kalkan Prince Apartment to our family and friends. [Morgan & Sean Dollman May 2006]
