The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

This beautiful and sophisticated bougainvillea-covered harbour village is set in a breathtaking landscape in the heart of the old Lycian region. The ancient sites of Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Tlos and Patara are all close by, with Kekova, Demre, Myra, Phaselis, Olympos and Aspendos slightly further away, but all easily accessible. Strict conservation laws have ensured that the heart of the village retains an authentic ambience. Winding cobbled streets, colourful local shops and excellent harbour-side or roof terrace restaurants and bars are combined with stunning views - whether you are looking up to the dramatic mountains behind the village, or down across the harbour to the broad sweep of the Mediterranean.

The many roof terraces are a highlight of the evenings, a time when Kalkan is at her significant best. You can dine by candlelight to the strains of jazz or classical music whilst admiring the beautiful views across the tiled rooftops to the harbour and out to sea - a truly unforgettable experience.

The standard of dining in Kalkan is a wonderful surprise. With restaurant ownership shared between locals and Turks from Istanbul, a wider variation of Mediterranean cuisine is offered than perhaps might be expected from a Turkish village of this size. Certainly, the range and style of cuisine on offer exceeds what is generally available throughout coastal Turkey.

Due to the type of visitor that Kalkan attracts there have been continuing gastronomic improvements, especially at the higher end of the market. This has resulted in an eclectic selection of restaurants that provide good value for all tastes.

Swimming opportunities abound. The village pebble beach has been carefully and attractively extended. There are stunning beaches in the immediate vicinity, with Patara Beach being one. Patara is a 20-minute journey, and is regularly featured as one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful and undiscovered beaches. Comprising eighteen kilometres of sand without a single building. (Except one restaurant on the beach which is open all day and has all the facilities needed to spend the whole day at the beach). The dramatic Kaputas beach is a 5 minute journey from Kalkan. It is a beautiful sandy beach found at the foot of a ravine down many steps.

Several beach clubs complete the swimming options available in Kalkan. Accessible by water taxi, taxi or on foot, these clubs are much more than simply platforms cut into the cliff side - they provide a scenically stunning setting and a peaceful haven in which to relax by the water's edge listening to the sounds of the sea and, occasionally, tasteful background music.

The swimming at the beach clubs is fabulous, with access steps leading directly from the rocks into the clear clean waters of the bay, some parts of which are freshened by several natural underground springs. Most of the clubs also provide water sports for the more active.

With so much of interest in the surrounding regions and the village itself, Kalkan is a destination that encourages guests to return time and time again. Whether your interests are historical, cultural, or you just wish for the most relaxing holiday in the most beautiful, Kalkan is sure to satisfy.

Kalkan has managed to retain that most elusive of mixtures - an authentic ambience with the relative sophistication that makes it an unusual, charming, picturesque and uniquely welcoming destination.

On the ground floor is the open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area, with patio doors leading to a pergola covered in Bougainvillea, providing welcome shade whilst you dine Al Fresco. The spacious, light and airy lounge is modern with stylish, and the comfy sofas are especially inviting. The kitchen is modern and very well equipped, (see facilities below for details) with a large dining table and chairs. Conveniently located on the ground floor is a WC.

On the first floor is one double and one twin bedded room. Both air-conditioned and decorated in a similar style, but with their own individuality. Cooling white walls and hand made curtains, beautiful Turkish cushions and throws make these bedrooms feel special. They also each have a large wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and shelves. Above each dressing table is a mirror, hand-painted by a talented artist in Kalkan. The bedrooms each have an en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, WC, and a vanity cabinet with plenty of storage.

Both of these bedrooms have separate entrances onto an enormous terrace with the most magnificent views. There are two wrought iron sofas with plump mattresses and cushions. There is also a parasol and a beautiful marble table, handcrafted in Kalkan.

On the second floor is an air-conditioned twin room with its own outside terrace with fabulous views. This room has large windows and as you walk up the stairs and catch a glimpse of the views I promise you will walk straight towards the terrace to get a closer look at the magnificent views. This terrace is furnished with 2 large bean bags, 4 chairs, a table and a parasol.

Outside living is enviable at this villa.
Underneath the bourganvillea covered pergola is certainly the ideal place to enjoy a relaxing lunch, or perhaps do as the locals do and enjoy a game of backgammon.

Admire the magnificent views from the comfort of your sun-bed, or if you get a burst of energy - how about completing a few lengths in your own private pool? The parasols even have wheelie stands to make even the small task of moving them easy. There is also a BBQ if you fancy trying your hand at Al Fresco cooking.
Beautiful deep pink and white Bougainville climb up to the terrace and terracotta pots overflow with pretty colourful flowers. The views from both roof terraces are breathtaking and together with the wrought-iron sofas (with comfy mattresses and marble table this makes for the ultimate night-time viewpoint to be mesmerised by the twinkling lights of Kalkan.

Guestbook

Phenomenal villa, superbly equipped. We wanted a 'child-friendly' villa for our vacation, and Okyanus Manzara delivered. High chairs, cots, toys, and the pool! The roof terrace is the perfect place for adults to relax and see the sea and stars after the kids have gone to bed. Highly recommended as a great spot for a vacation on the Med. Gjone family June 08

We had a FAB 2 week stay in Okyanus Manzara. It really was home from home with everything thought of. Kalkan is a very picturesque town with lots of fantastic restaurants and many with roof top views. There are some lovely places to visit and good beaches nearby. Tindall Family July 08

Tracey has obviously put in a great deal of thought into furnishing the villa, which felt more like a home than a rental property. From the adult perspective the villa is very nicely furnished but also practical too and the children loved exploring the toy cupboard and watching the huge selection of children’s DVD’s during the hottest hours of the day. We had a lovely holiday in Kalkan and would certainly recommend this villa to our friends. Brew family August 08

Spent many hours on the two large balconies both early and late in the day and enjoyed the sparkling clean swimming pool and sunbathing/garden area. Kalkan town is also stunning with excellent restaurants and friendly people. Weather fantastic for all two weeks. Will recommend your villa to friends and family. Hope to return again in the future. Thank you for a great holiday
