Grania's House
About the home
There’s a wide range to choose from in Kalkan. You can rent a good-value villa with a pool high on the hill – but a hot walk down to the town for your everyday needs, restaurants and bars. If you want something a bit special with the rarity value of a seafront location, go for Grania’s House, and the seclusion of a spacious villa with its own guest suite at exclusive Club Patara.
JULY/AUGUST AVAILABLE AS 3-BED ONLY. OTHER TIMES OPTION OF 2 OR 3 BED. GARDEN SUITE NOT AVAILABLE INDEPENDENTLY.
Grania's House is set in prime position in the privacy of a lush garden of palm trees, olive and oleander at Club Patara/Patara Prince Resort, the perfect place for a stress-free and relaxing holiday. This romantic villa is nearer both the main pools and sea-bathing from platforms over the rocks (the water is blue flagged for quality) than almost any other property, just the other side of the garden, with hotel, restaurants and bars only a few steps further.
The villa also comes top for quality and space, both in the villa and in the garden suite below the terrace converted by us in 2010, reached by outside steps from the villa terrace. This guest suite is glass-fronted to make the most of the fabulous view across the garden to the sea, with a delightful interior to the same high standard as the main villa. Bedrooms throughout villa and suite are good-size doubles, which is often not the case with 3-bed villas. All the main rooms are air-conditioned, and all, not just some, of the main rooms have wonderful sea views, even including the kitchen and garden suite bathroom.
Total of 3 bedrooms, in the villa and separate guest suite. The villa has 2 bedrooms, (I double bed, 1 twin) 2 shower rooms, one en-suite (both newly refurbished in 2009) downstairs w.c., sitting room, kitchen, especially large terrace with built-in barbecue.
The new garden suite, reached by outside steps from the terrace, has 1 bedroom with double bed, en-suite bathroom with bath, sitting room, and a small patio - the perfect space for additional family or guests.

Further details indoors:
In addition to the main villa we converted the garden level to a guest suite in 2010, reached by outside steps leading down from the terrace. It is a stunning space, fronted by full length glass to take advantage of the fabulous view. It consists of 1 bedroom with double bed, looking directly out over the garden to the sea; sitting room, bathroom with bath and shower; small patio with two wooden sunloungers. (The suite cannot be rented separately from the main villa.)
The villa main entrance leads into the open-plan air-conditioned sitting room with traditional fireplace and big French windows, stylishly decorated with Ottoman coffee table, antique artefacts, kelim rugs on the floor and as cushions on the generous and comfortable low seating. The well-equipped kitchen is separate, overlooking sea and garden, and has a full size cooker, extractor fan, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, coffee-maker and electric kettle. Both rooms open onto the large bougainvillea-fringed terrace with comfortable cane sofa, dining table and chairs. Steps lead down from here to the garden suite and patio. The downstairs w.c. is fitted with a washing machine, and there is an iron and ironing board. There is also a small safe.
Upstairs the villa has the master bedroom with Juliet balcony and its own shower bathroom and w.c., and boasts an elegant double four-poster bed, draped in fresh blue and white cotton. A hair dryer is provided. There is a second bathroom, and the twin bedroom is attractively decorated in soft and light colours. All sleeping accommodation is in bedrooms, not on sofa beds elsewhere.
All main rooms air-conditioned, all with sea views, all bedrooms good-size doubles.
Bed linen, towels and beach towels are provided
Further details outdoors:
No need to make do with a tiny pool offered by many Kalkan villas; the highly prestigious Club Patara - also known as Patara Prince Resort - has 3 large outside swimming pools, good for swimming serious lengths as well as more gentle fun in addition to sea swimming (blue flagged for quality) from bathing platforms below the house. The 2 large pools and sea are extremely near my villa. There is also 1 indoor pool, health and fitness centre, sunbathing platforms with umbrellas, tennis courts, several restaurants, bars, shop and other amenities including a boutique hotel. Watersports and scuba diving are also available at the resort.
Outside swimming pools open April - November only
Further details
The garden in which the villa is set is effectively private, and beautifully maintained, although we do not own it ourselves.
The villa twin bedroom has space for our additional full-size folding bed, if required.
Conditions
Please enquire about suitability for tiny children. The resort is on a steep slope with flights of steps and is therefore not suitable for the less mobile.
Sorry, no smokers

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

From high cedar forests to dramatic coastal views, ancient Lycia offers spectacular scenery. It is rich in classical sites to visit such as Xanthos, Patara, Myra, Letoon and Tlos, all within easy reach of Kalkan, or for the more energetic the Lycian Way offers waymarked trails. Wild flowers, at their best in March and April, are superb. Walk through impressive Saklikent Gorge, 30 minutes drive away, and reward your activity with a delicious meal on the water's edge, lounging on cushionsTurkish-style.
Only half an hour away to the west is one of the finest beaches in the Mediterranean, the completely unspoilt 18 km long stretch at the ancient site of Patara, now a conservation area where turtles return to lay their eggs. A short drive from Kalkan in the other direction along the coast road takes you to the dramatic setting of Kaputas beach, and further away to the pretty harbour town of Kas.
The Kalkan / Patara Prince Resort area
Club Patara – also known as Patara Prince Resort – is one of Kalkan’s best addresses. Designed by the distinguished Turkish architect, Turhan Kaso, this delightful Mediterranean village-type development with a boutique hotel, all set in verdant gardens, clings to the hillside just across the bay from Kalkan harbour. It is a secure, gated village, with everything you need on site. Nearer Kalkan village than many more recently developed areas yet away from clamour, this glamorous resort, luxuriant with bougainvillea, jasmine and other plants, has 3 outdoor swimming pools, large enough for serious exercise, health club and indoor pool, massage, tennis courts (1 floodlit), bars, restaurants, mini-market, and even a helicopter pad! Cars are not allowed in the resort, except for on arrival and departure, but there is a frequent free shuttle service running through the resort up to the top infinity pool, mini-market, tennis courts and car park. You are entitled to full use of all these facilities, with a 25% discount card. Separately-run watersports and scuba diving are also available at the resort.
A short boat taxi, conventional taxi or a ten-minute walk takes you to old Kalkan village where whitewashed balconied houses bright with bougainvillea line the narrow stone-paved streets which climb up the hill from the harbour. Hire a gulet here to explore the beautiful coast, stopping to swim in the turquoise water of isolated bays. Kalkan is famed for its wonderful and varied selection of restaurants, from top-of-the-range cuisine to delicious local Turkish dishes.

We had a glorious week here. The villa is wonderfully ell-equipped with fabulous views and easy access to the pools of the resort and to the sea, with platforms where you can dive straight in. Having all the facilities of the resort on hand with 25% discount on food and drinks, plus Kalkan ten minutes away by taxi or water taxi or even on foot means that every day can be different. The resort is elegant and beautifully kept with delighful staff who were marvellously attentive to our grandchildren and all our needs. It seemed to us to be the perfect combination of a villa holiday with hotel facilities built in and a pretty little town across the bay for fun. |
Guestbook for Grania's House
What a lovely place you have! We had a lovely time in your villa, very clean and spacious and what an amazing view. Your website and description certainly lived up to expectations so thank you The villa was very well equipped and we liked the extra thoughtful touches like cool bag for picnics etc The weather was mixed [April] but the end of the week heated up and the children swam in the pool & the sea and we went to Patara beach but we loved the wildflowers, Lycian Way, mountains inland and the archaeological sites; if it had been too hot we would never have seen all those! Thank you for a lovely stay. (H. Ashworth, N.Yorks.)
We had a really wonderful time, thank you so much for all your help in arranging the transfers etc. They were the smoothest transfers we have ever had and much appreciated with a wee one in tow (she travelled very well and loved it - with the Turks being so keen on babies she became a little celeb around the pool!). (Amy W, London)
I just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for the use of your lovely villa. We had the most relaxing time and absolutely loved the Villa, Patara Prince facilities and Kalkan. The Villa had everything we could have asked for and the views were incredible. We loved Turkey and will come back. (S. Balls, Hants.)
Thank you for such a magical holiday in your villa in Kalkan. Everyone was so friendly….our 4 year-old son asked why no-one had given his sister any presents when we went out for the first time after our return home (she is 18 months and blonde and was given so much chocolate and had every inch kissed). We all had such a great time, and Mum and Dad could escape family breakfast with us and could gently wave at us from their beautiful suite below. We all agreed that we would love to come back again. Thank you. (Kate H, London)
Your villa Bellissima – your oh so comfortable villa The combination of villa, resort and Kalkan worked wonderfully well; you could perm different combinations each day. We had a lovely outing up to the hills for a trout lunch - such good food and a lovely area. I could go on and on about how lovely it all was, but in short - Compliments - millions: complaints – zero. (C. Handy, London)
Satisfactory would not be a word to cover how we felt. Super, Fantastic, Brilliant, Wonderful, would be more accurate. The Villa was a gem. It was a beautiful cool oasis of calm and a wonderful very comfortable haven to retreat to after the heat of the Turkish sun and the bustle and noise of Kalkan town/village. (David R, Norfolk)
