Home description
There’s a wide range to choose from in Kalkan. You can rent a good-value villa with a pool high on the hill – but a hot walk down to the town for your everyday needs, restaurants and bars. If you want something a bit special with the rarity value of a seafront location, go for Grania’s House, with the seclusion of a spacious villa, not apartment. It is set in prime position in the privacy of a lush garden of palm trees, olive and oleander at exclusive Club Patara/Patara Prince Resort. Great for serious swimming, this luxury villa is nearer the 2 main pools and sea-bathing from platforms over the rocks (the water is blue flagged for quality) than almost any other property, just the other side of the garden, with hotel, restaurants and bars only a few steps further. The villa also comes top for quality. It is the more spacious of Club Patara’s 2-bedroom designs with the unique bonus of a shady room below the terrace open to the garden and sea. (In many similar properties this space is separately-owned, let to another renter, with consequent loss of peace and quiet.) All, not just some, of the main rooms have wonderful sea views and all are air-conditioned. The villa has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, (both newly refurbished for 2009) downstairs w.c., sitting room, kitchen, especially large terrace with built-in barbecue, and garden room SEARCH TIP: If comparing properties, make sure you see many photos of interiors, not just general resort.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
From high cedar forests to dramatic coastal views, ancient Lycia offers spectacular scenery. It is rich in classical sites to visit such as Xanthos, Patara, Myra, Letoon and Tlos, all within easy reach of Kalkan, or for the more energetic the Lycian Way offers waymarked trails. Wild flowers, at their best in March and April, are superb. Walk through impressive Saklikent Gorge, 30 minutes drive away, and reward your activity with a delicious meal on the water's edge, lounging on cushionsTurkish-style. Only half an hour away to the west is one of the finest beaches in the Mediterranean, the completely unspoilt 18 km long stretch at the ancient site of Patara, now a conservation area where turtles return to lay their eggs. A short drive from Kalkan in the other direction along the coast road takes you to the dramatic setting of Kaputas beach, and further away to the pretty harbour town of Kas.
Kalkan / Patara Prince Resort area
Club Patara – also known as Patara Prince Resort – is one of Kalkan’s best addresses. Designed by the distinguished Turkish architect, Turhan Kaso, this delightful Mediterranean village-type development with a boutique hotel, all set in verdant gardens, clings to the hillside just across the bay from Kalkan harbour. It is a secure, gated village, with everything you need on site: 3 outdoor swimming pools, large enough for serious exercise, health club and indoor pool, massage, tennis courts (1 floodlit), bars, restaurants, mini-market, and even a helicopter pad! Cars are not allowed in the resort, except for on arrival and departure, but there is a frequent free shuttle service running through the resort up to the top infinity pool, mini-market, tennis courts and car park. The high service charges we pay for our villa entitle you to full use of all these facilities, with a 25% discount card. Separately-run watersports and scuba diving are also available at the resort. A short boat taxi, conventional taxi or a ten-minute walk takes you to old Kalkan village where whitewashed balconied houses bright with bougainvillea line the narrow stone-paved streets which climb up the hill from the harbour. Hire a gulet here to explore the beautiful coast, stopping to swim in the turquoise water of isolated bays. Kalkan is famed for its wonderful and varied selection of restaurants, from top-of-the-range cuisine to delicious local Turkish dishes.
How to get there
The nearest airports are at Dalaman (approx 1hr40mins drive) and Antalya (c. 4 hrs drive). (In other similar villas this space is often separately owned and let to another renter.) The villa main entrance leads into the open-plan air-conditioned sitting room with traditional fireplace and big French windows, stylishly decorated with Ottoman coffee table, antique artefacts, kelim rugs on the floor and as cushions on the generous and comfortable low seating. The well-equipped kitchen is separate, overlooking sea and garden, and has a full size cooker, extractor fan, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, coffee-maker and electric kettle. Both rooms open onto the large bougainvillea-fringed terrace with comfortable cane sofa, dining table and chairs. Steps lead down to the garden room, perfect for lounging and enjoying the garden and sea views. The downstairs w.c. is fitted with a washing machine, and there is an iron and ironing board. Upstairs the a/c master bedroom has its own shower bathroom with w.c., and boasts an elegant double four-poster bed, draped in fresh blue and white cotton. A hair dryer is provided. There is a second bathroom, and the a/c twin bedroom is attractively decorated in soft and light colours. All sleeping accommodation is in bedrooms, not on sofa beds elsewhere. Bed linen, towels and beach towels are provided
Further details outdoors: The highly prestigious Club Patara - also known as Patara Prince Resort - has 3 large outside swimming pools, good for swimming serious lengths as well as more gentle fun, 1 indoor pool, health and fitness centre, sunbathing platforms with umbrellas, tennis courts, several restaurants, bars, shop and other amenities including a boutique hotel, and there is easy access to the sea (blue flagged for quality) from bathing platforms below the house. Watersports and scuba diving are also available at the resort. Outside swimming pools open April - November only
Further details
The garden in which the villa is set is effectively private, and beautifully maintained, although we do not own it ourselves. The twin bedroom has space for our additional full-size folding bed, if required.

Guestbook for Grania's House
I have been telling my friends that the house was so well positioned that an Olympian could throw a pebble from your terrace straight in to the sea. Eating breakfast, occasionally lunch and, very often, dinner on your terrace and looking at that view was just breathtaking. I loved the way that you had furnished your house with a cool eclectic mix very reminiscent of Conran/GTC. A few days into the holiday I was anxious to make a booking for next year. Maggie Heaney, Wimbledon
Just a big thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. The villa is idyllic and the location is perfect. We are reluctant to tell too many people about the gem we have discovered, otherwise it may make it difficult for us to make a future reservation!! V. Ridpath, Durham
Grania’s House was Perfect 5 star! We all loved it! Thought its position was superb. Liked the interior and Turkish furnishings. It was excellent, and everything we needed was there with lots of room for the four of us. We also all liked Club Patara/Patara Prince Resort very much. Great facilities, pools, bathing platforms, restaurants, spa etc. We loved the holiday and Grania’s House so much we want to book again for next year! Just need to check dates. J. Pinchin, Tewkesbury
t's stunning! Can we stay forever?! D. Pepper, France
Your villa really does have the edge, not just for the classy interior but especially for the amazing and unique position.....with that view! L. Fletcher, UK
