Home description
KALKAN SUN, KOMURLUK APARTMENTS, is situated in the peaceful, prestigious Komurluk area of Kalkan and has one of the best vantage points in Kalkan. It is very spacious, light and airy with open-plan kitchen/living area and furnished to a high standard with a mix of traditional and modern furnishings.
The 'creme de la creme' is the two private, exceptionally large interconnecting terraces which are furnished for outside living and alfresco dining. Facing south east, both terraces have uninterrupted, panoramic views over the bay, harbour and village and are bathed in sunshine from dawn 'til dusk. The front terrace leading from the living room has sun beds, parasols and dining for six people......yet still ample space to move around!! The side terrace leading from the master bedroom is shaded with a pergola covered in bamboo and draped with bougainvillaea - an ideal spot for 'chilling' or a quiet read on the large sofa and chairs. There is nothing more relaxing than watching the gulets returning from their day trips around teatime...... then later with pre-dinner drinks, watch the sea turn red as the sun sets, and as it gets dark, the lights of Kalkan begin to twinkle.
At ground level there is a communal swimming pool with sun beds and parasols, two shower and W.C. The pool terrace has ample space for sunbathing.
It is within a ten to fifteen minute leisurely stroll to the village and a couple of minutes to Palm Beach Club in the bay below where there is a connecting water taxi to Kalkan Harbour.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Located on the Turquoise Coast of Turkey and with the soaring Taurus Mountains as a backdrop, lies the postcard pretty village of Kalkan. Set in the centre of the ancient Lycian Kingdom this simple fishing village has retained much of its character.
The ancient sites of Xanthos, Letoon, Pinar, Tlos, and Patara are within easy reach of Kalkan. Slightly further are Kekova, Demre, Myra, Phaselis, Olympos and Aspendos.
Driving up into the mountains behind Kalkan and travelling throught stunning scenery, you will come across a fertile plain that was once a prehistoric lake. Amongst the fields and orchards is the village of Bezirgan where you will find the REAL Turkey along with several Lycian rock tombs. Islamlar is also a lovely drive not far up the mountain from Kalkan and is famous for its trout farms.
The dramatic Kaputas beach is a 5 minute journey from Kalkan where its beautiful sandy beach is found at the foot of a revine down many steps.
Patara Beach in approximately 20 minutes and is of pure sand and dunes stretching 12 miles. Entrance to the beach is through the ruins of the ancient city. Development is banned and it is home to the protected loggerhead turtles which lay their eggs on the beach.
Kas, a 30 minute drive away from Kalkan is worth a visit just for the journey alone! The road clings to the edge of the coastal road providing spectacular views out to sea. It was built on the ancient site of Amtiphellos and ruins can still be seen scattered around the town. A small well preserved Hellenistic amphitheatre still remains just along from the harbour and situated behind the amphitheatre on top of a hill is a Doric tomb. This attractive harbour town is more cosmopolitan than Kalkan and has many shops, restaurants and bars.
Fethiye is the largest working town in the region with a bustling market and casbah style shopping area in the old town. A variety of restaurants and bars overlook the marina where daily boat trips will take you around the bay and its twelve islands. Carved into the limestone cliffs behind the town you will find rock tombs dating back to 4th Century BC.
Olu Deniz has a stunning beach and lagoon which you will always see in Turkish brochures. It has a lovely traffic free promenade lined with cafe/bars, shops and is still popular with backpackers coming for the paragliding. For the experience of a lifetime try a paragliding jump in tandem with a qualified instructor. As you leave the 2000 metre high mountain you will find yourself soaring above the bay taking in the breathtaking view of the lagoon before gently gliding down to the beach.
Kalkan / Komurluk area
As a result of strict building regulations in the old town Kalkan has retained its charm and special ambience.
Walking down the narrow alleyways you will find yourself in a maze of old whitewashed houses with rickety wooden balconies overhanging with flowering plants and brilliant bougainvillaea.
As you wind down the alleyways you end up in the quaint harbour where beautiful traditional gulets and luxury yachts moor up for the evening. Diving, fishing, scuba diving, caneoing and whitewater rafting can all be booked from the harbour. You can sole charter a gulet which will take you to secluded bays which are inaccessible by road.
Although Kalkan has it's own shingle beach next to the harbour, there are a number of beach clubs around Kalkan Bay. Set in stunning surroundings, these clubs are rock platforms and terraces cut into the hillside at the water's edge with the lower terraces having steps in the sea. They are on a number of levels so it never gets too crowded. Sunloungers and parasols are provided as well as showers and WCs. They all provide a first class drinks and bar service as well as having excellent restaurants. Free Water taxis are provided to and from the village
For the gentlemen a visit to a local barber is a must for that legendary shave. Also a trip to one of the upmarket hotels will enable you to experience a traditional Turkish bath and massage.
At the centre of Kalkan is a taxi rank and a dolmus(mini bus) stop, which offers a regular service to Fethiye, Kas and mountain villages. There are five banks with ATMs, a Post Office and several supermarkets which offer free delivery of shopping to your accommodation.
Wandering round the Aladdin's caves that line the steep narrow alleyways, you will find little carpet bazaars and traditional jewellery shops where lovely pieces are made to measure in gold, silver, amber and turquoise. You can even design a piece yourself.
Kalkan is full of exquisite boutiques and colourful local craft shops that sell ceramics, glassware and hand made cushion covers. On hot days while browsing round a shop don't be surprised if a friendly shop owner offers you a cool drink or a traditional apple tea.
A market is also held every Thursday where anything from 'designer' t-shirts, jeans, spices and hand made linen can be bought.
The array of types of places to eat in Kalkan can be quite bewildering with over a hundred restaurants to choose from. They offer all manner of culinary delights, some on roof terraces, down alleyways or on the harbour front. There is a good selection of stylish and atmospheric blues and jazz bars which stay open till the early hours.
Komurluk is to the east of Kalkan village within a ten to fifteen minute stroll along the Kas road. It is a very peaceful. prestigious area with exclusive luxury villas and apartments, all having breathtaking, uninterrupted views over the bay and harbour. Palm Beach Club is tucked in the rocks below with bathing platform, secluded sunbathing areas, ottomman sitting areas, restaurant and bar. Watersports are available as well as free watertaxis to and from beach clubs to the village for guests.
Put these things together and include the wonderful hospitality of its people, its no wonder first-time visitors are finding themselves coming back time after time.

Guestbook for Kalkan Sun, Komurluk Apts
Just to say thank you so much for the wonderful experience we had staying at your apartment in Kalkan. Although we experienced torrential downpours and the most thunderous storms I have ever heard, the apartment and stunning views were an ever present comfort. The people couldn't have been warmer and more friendly and the food was amazing too. A great gettaway and definitely a 'home from home' which I'm sure we'll visit again at somepoint. Ben Trebilcook & Jenni Yates (London) October 2009
Another three weeks of doing absolutely nothing......BLISS!! What a fabulous view, we practically lived on the terrace. This place helps recharge our batteries. We've enjoyed our walk into the village to buy our supplies from the butcher and fruit n veg man. Great to get to know more and talk to the locals. Sad to be leaving but will be back again next year. Thank you once again. Fiona Robertson and Jim Campbell (Edinburgh) July 2008 and July 2009
WOW! Words escape us on the view. You see pictures but so much more in real life. Apartment was amazing - a real 'home from home', everything was thought of. Kalkan is very friendly and not too pushy. Umit's a star too. Thank you for the memories:) Gareth & Saffron Bradley (N. Wales) June 2009
Your apartment is wonderful and the views stunning. Apart from the magnificent view, sitting on your terrace was theraputic....all your cares seemed to drift away. Our stay here was a joy from beginning to end. Morag Fullerton &Peter (Glasgow) May 2009
We had an absolutely wonderful time in Kalkan. We loved the place and your apartment is something else.....what a view!!!! - we are so jealous!!! So much so, we would love to go back next year (a first for us) so would like to return for the same weeks next year if they are available. Joanne & Chris Williams and boys (Huddersfield) August 2008 & August 09
We had a lovely time in your apartment, you seem to have thought of everything which made for a very relaxing stay. We were very lazy and spent most of the time lying by the pool or relaxing on the balcony. We meant to have a BBQ but ran out of time and of course we had the surprise rain so we headed off to one of the fish farms in the hills. Will certainly recommend your place to our friends. Nick & Tina Bonner & family (Hampshire) August 08
What can we say!! Absolutely gorgeous apartment - everything is first class from the decor to the facilities. The view is to die for and your terrace was just too hard to leave! What a lovely spot you have here in Kalkan...the sun stays on the terrace from 9am - 8pm - perfect for two sunworshipers like us. Umit is a gem, a real asset for the apartment block. Thank you so much for letting us share your little bit of heaven:) Chris Done & Daz (N. Wales) June 2008
What can I say...... words cannot describe how lovely your apartment (that word does it no justice) is. Everything....... the fabulous view, the lovely fittings and furnishings, the huge balcony....just everything was perfect!! And your two faithful helpers - what treasures they both are... it must set your mind at rest knowing they are taking care of your guests so well. We have left ourselves other things to do and see in Kalkan, not least the other dozens of restaurants we didn't try - so we will be back if only to stay in your lovely home and gaze at the view. Tony and Margaret Woodwards (Hove) June 2007
Been searching for the right words all week - Kalkan Sun certainly has the 'WOW' factor! We will miss our pre-going out drinks on the fabulous terrace waching the gulet races back home. Yvonne and Peter Walklate (Cheshire) June 07
We have truly had, the most wonderful trip to Kalkan and we were absolutely delighted with your apartment.....which is 'to die for'. It was spotless and really did exceed our expectations. We were quite taken aback with the space, furnishings and not forgetting - that view. Thank you so much for making us feel so much at home. Alex and Dave Saunders (Portsmouth) Sept 06 & Sept 07
Our third time in Kalkan and this is without doubt the best location we've stayed in yet. Your apartment is "a top" spot with stunning views. Tim, Jenny and Myles Pittam (Surrey) August 2006
'Discovery of Heaven'. We felt so welcome in your beautiful apartment. The views and sunsets were paradise and people in Kalkan so friendly. Thank you so much. Peter, Laila and Mikki Roelofs (Baarn, Netherlands) July 2006 & August 2007
We had a great time in Kalkan and your apartment is fantastic - the style of the furnishings were first class. Umit and Omer who looked after your apartment were both very helpful and efficient. Will definitely use it next time we are in Kalkan. Grant and Amanda Taylor June 2006
We had a wonderful holiday. I doubt if we could have found a more perfect setting to rest and recharge our batteries before facing the winter. Thank you for letting us share your wonderful apartment - we will certainly recommend it to all our friends. Sandra and Kenneth Snedden(Rickmansworth) October 2005
