The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Kalkan is one of Turkey’s best kept secrets - nestling as it does in the foothills of the Taurus mountains. Close your eyes and imagine what a Mediterranean harbour should look like: white houses covered with bourgainvillea, narrow cobbled streets, roof terrace and harbour side restaurants; Kalkan has it all.
The region in ancient times was known as Lycia and Kalkan offers easy access to many of the great classical sites (e.g. Xanthos and Ephesus). You can also make daily excursions to Tlos, Saklikent Gorge, Kaputas Beach and Patara to name but a few.
The Kalkan / Ortaalan area
Villa Ikbal is located about 15 minutes walk from the village with its variety of restaurants and shops selling carpets, leather, silver, textiles etc. Enjoy the hospitality and the experience of bartering with the local people. There are local supermarkets close by to provide all of your needs. There are also banks and a post office in the village. Market day in Kalkan is Thursday and well worth a visit.
The narrow cobbled streets all lead to the picturesque harbour where you will be able to enjoy a drink whilst watching the every day harbour life.
Leading off from the harbour is a wonderful choice of restaurants where you can eat excellent food, many with roof top terraces offering a wonderful view of the harbour and the night sky. The type of menus on offer is very varied ranging from very traditional Ottoman cuisine to modern interpretations of the country’s food, all offering very good value for money.
There are five beach clubs available around Kalkan, these clubs are rock gardens cut into the hillside and offer relaxing sunbathing and swimming in the warm turquoise sea. Some of them offer water-sports such as snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, sailing, and fishing. The clubs charge a fee, of around £3.00 per day per person for the use of the sun beds and umbrellas. The Kalamar Beach Club will provide free transport to pick you up and return you to the villa.
A 15 minute taxi or dolmus ride will take you to Patara beach, 18 kilometres of golden sand, one of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey and voted one of the world’s best beach in a Sunday Times survey.
For the energetic type you can try scuba diving (C&C Scuba - boat at the harbour), horse riding, white water rafting and canoeing, mountain walks, paragliding and jeep safari.

Villa Ikbal was the ideal place for a great holiday, a nice quiet location on the edge of the town. The sun terraces are spacious and the pool is kept really clean, great for cooling off.

A beautiful and excellently appointed and spotlessly maintained villa situated in Kalkan and with a view that could not be bettered. We will not hesitate about returning.

Thoroughly relaxing time at Villa Ikbal. Lovely to sit on one of the balconies in the shade and watch the view. Air conditioning in August was a must and kept us fresh. It was as good as the pictures and we were very lucky to have chosen this villa and venue.
