The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Kalkan is one of Turkey’s best kept secrets - nestling as it does in the foothills of the Taurus mountains. Close your eyes and imagine what a Mediterranean harbour should look like: white houses covered with bourgainvillea, narrow cobbled streets, roof terrace and harbour side restaurants; Kalkan has it all.
The region in ancient times was known as Lycia and Kalkan offers easy access to many of the great classical sites (e.g. Xanthos and Ephesus). You can also make daily excursions to Tlos, Saklikent Gorge, Kaputas Beach and Patara to name but a few.
Kalkan / Ortaalan area
Villa Ikbal is located about 15 minutes walk from the village with its variety of restaurants and shops selling carpets, leather, silver, textiles etc. Enjoy the hospitality and the experience of bartering with the local people. There are local supermarkets close by to provide all of your needs. There are also banks and a post office in the village. Market day in Kalkan is Thursday and well worth a visit.
The narrow cobbled streets all lead to the picturesque harbour where you will be able to enjoy a drink whilst watching the every day harbour life.
Leading off from the harbour is a wonderful choice of restaurants where you can eat excellent food, many with roof top terraces offering a wonderful view of the harbour and the night sky. The type of menus on offer is very varied ranging from very traditional Ottoman cuisine to modern interpretations of the country’s food, all offering very good value for money.
There are five beach clubs available around Kalkan, these clubs are rock gardens cut into the hillside and offer relaxing sunbathing and swimming in the warm turquoise sea. Some of them offer water-sports such as snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, sailing, and fishing. The clubs charge a fee, of around £3.00 per day per person for the use of the sun beds and umbrellas. The Kalamar Beach Club will provide free transport to pick you up and return you to the villa.
A 15 minute taxi or dolmus ride will take you to Patara beach, 18 kilometres of golden sand, one of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey and voted one of the world’s best beach in a Sunday Times survey.
For the energetic type you can try scuba diving (C&C Scuba - boat at the harbour), horse riding, white water rafting and canoeing, mountain walks, paragliding and jeep safari.

Guestbook
A superb villa with plenty of space. Great sea views and a good sized pool which we spent much of our time around. Air conditioning which was really effective, unlike some of the places we have stayed previously. Martin and Joy Sykes and Family, Thornecliffe, May, 2008 ****************** We spent an excellent week in early May at Villa Ikbal. The villa provides everything you could possibly need for a very comfortable stay. We never tired of the fabulous views over the bay whether it be at breakfast time or in the evening whilst enjoying a gin and tonic. Kalkan is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday and is one of the most friendly places we have ever visited.
Sheila, Mel and Andrew Brown, UK, May 2008 ******************* This was our first visit to Turkey and we thoroughly enjoyed it – made special by the pleasant surroundings and the courteous, friendly locals. The villa had everything we needed and was certainly more spacious and comfortable than we expected in a holiday villa. The views over Kalkan and the bay were wonderful by day and we also spent many evenings on the balcony enjoying the lights and atmosphere from below. Gill and Andy Ferryman and Family, Oxfordshire, August 2007 *************** Arriving at Villa Ikbal after a week sailing was just wonderful. The villa certainly lives up to its name- it really is ’beautiful to the eye’ with its rosy pink tiles, lovely furnishings, spectacular views from all its different levels and great pool. We would certainly recommend Villa Ikbal and would like to return one day. We really liked Kalkan –friendly people, lots of great restaurants and we felt perfectly happy to let our teenagers wander about on their own. There’s also plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. Heather and Richard Sleep and Family, West Sussex, UK, July 2007 ****************** Perched high on the surrounding hills, Villa Ikbal offers fabulous, uninterupted views across the tranquil bay; by evening the setting sun bathes the surrounding hills in pink and yellow light. The local restaurants offer quality local food served with Turkish hospitality. Thank you for the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful place. Gloria, Peter, Nicola and David. Wilmslow, Cheshire, UK, September 2006 ******************** Villa Ikbal provided us with ideal base to chill out with our teenagers and enjoy the ambience and the warmth of Kalkan. The villa was very spacious and cool, fitted with all mod cons, better than the web site portrays. The people in Kalkan were extremely friendly, the boat trips and sunset cruises were spectacular. Sue the on site agent was very efficient…we only wished we had a longer stay. Tim, Debs and Family. Frewsham, Surrey, UK. August 2006
