The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Backed by impressive mountains, Kalkan lies on the beautiful southern coast of Turkey between Fethiye and Antalya known as the Turquoise Coast - the sea really is that colour which makes Kalkan, with its stunning views down to the harbour front, an ideal holiday location.
The Kalkan / Central Kalkan area
Winding cobbled streets, a beautiful harbour with brightly coloured boats, a photo opportunity at every corner - Kalkan has it all, and more. You can either laze by the pool all day or amble down to the harbour front and enjoy a cold drink overlooking the bay. Step aboard a gulet and cruise the coastline, stopping off to dive into the clear waters below, or catch a dolmus to visit the gloriously long sandy beach at Patara - keep an eye out for the turtles or stroll through the fascinating archaeological sites.
If shopping is the thing, Kalkan has it all. Haggle for that special holiday must-have at the market every Thursday, or wander through the town with all its colourful and unique little shops. Be it a pair of Turkish slippers or the latest Tarkan CD, a bespoke linen suit or a mouth wateringly fresh melon, you will find it all in Kalkan.
During the day, the pace is slow. As the day wanes, the many restaurants come alive. There are lots of fine restaurants to choose from, whatever your tastes. Watch the sun setting over the bay in one of the roof top terraces, or sample local fare in one of the village style bistros. Fresh fish, homemade soups and casseroles, baked aubergines, delicious sweets or wonderful flatbread pizzas. People-watch from bars and cafes and sample ice-cold Turkish beers and liqueurs. Enjoy a nightcap at the harbour front before meandering home through the narrow lanes of the old town. Kalkan stays awake as long as you can - you set the pace and the friendly locals will do all they can to ensure that you enjoy your holiday to the full.
Swim in the bay off diving platforms or from the pebbled town beach. Visit underwater tombs, picturesque mountain villages, or walk the Lycian way. The town of Kas with its many water activities is only a short bus journey away, along one of the most beautiful coastal roads we know.
Do all this, or just relax and soak up the sun. Mind, if you have been to Kalkan before, we don't need to tell you how wonderful it is. Just come back and stay in Kilim Cottage at a place that we now call home.

We spent a month touring Turkey and Kilim Cottage was a real highlight for us. Kalkan itself is an idealic little village with an incrediable outlook. Kilim Cottage is located right in central Kalkan, however the villa and pool are surrounded by beauitful gardens, your tranquil escape. The shared pool is wonderful, we meet some lovely people staying at the adjoining apartments, people that come back year after year, as they have found their own slice of heaven. Stroll out the gate and in peak season enjoy over 100 restaurants or have a great night in with a BBQ around the pool, the choice is yours. The villa itself had everything we needed. The owners Maggie and Faith couldn't have been more helpful, there are brochures and travel guides in the villa and Maggie answered all my questions prior re: transfers and surrounding attractions informatively and promptly. We only spend a week here, we could have easily stayed longer, it a great spot for day tripping to surrounding locations and then there's some lovely spots to discver in Kalkan itself. It also seems a shame to go out everyday as the pool is so lovely for a relaxing day with a book. As we were travelling with children the shared pool was a real plus as the children made friends with others. If we make it back to Turkey we would definitely stay at Kilim cottage again and for longer this time. |

We had a wonderful week in Kilim coattage in Kalkan. The cottage itself is extremely homely, with everything provided that you might need. It has a lovely pool that is shared but the week we stayed we saw very few people. The cottage is very private and quiet, exactly what we were looking for. Kalkan itself is a great location for a lazy week away. With many, many excellent restaurants & bars to choose from, right on the doorstep from the cottage. Our favourite was the Nar, with amazing steaks but also had great meals at The Paparazzi, Sofra & The Olive Garden. We also had a wonderful boat trip on the Yildiz 2, this comes with the most amazing views and lunch served by the boat owners who are just so friendly and welcoming. Maggie & Faith, the owners of Kilim Cottage made booking our holiday extremely easy, answering any questions we had and also arranging our airport transfers at by far the cheapest rate we could find. Thanks Maggie & Faith for a great holiday, we will definitely look to come back and recommend to anyone looking to holiday in Kalkan. |

My wife and I and our two year old daughter stayed at Kilim Cottage during the first 2 weeks of September 2011. It was our first trip to Kalkan and we had a great time. The cottage is located in the best position for walking to the old town and the beach. It takes about 10 mins to walk to the harbour area, and there are a number of small supermarkets and grocers within 5 mins walk. Most of the other villas are much farther up the hill, which is very steep, and a a car or taxi would undoubtedly be necessary. The cottage is very tastefully decorated and includes two large double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a third room with a comfortable sofa bed and separate bathroom. We put our daughter in the third bedroom in her travel cot. We cooked a number of meals at home and the kitchen was fine for this with adequate utensils etc. There was also a large living room Turkish style decorations. The cottage was air-conditioned throughout which was essential in the 40degree heat. The outside spaces were lovely with a large curved swimming pool, set in a lush green garden. The pool is shared with the other cottages but there was hardly anyone else around so it felt very relaxing and peaceful. There is a large outside table directly outside the cottage for eating and evening drinks. The Old town itself is very pretty and includes lots of shops and restaurants. It is quite touristy, but not offensively so. There is a very attractive pebbly beach with crystal clear water. Famously beautiful beaches at Patara and Kaputas are easily accessible by a short bus ride from the bus station 10 mins up the hill from the cottage. |
Guestbook for Kilim Cottage
We had a fantastic time in the cottage. It really was a very relaxing holiday and we all enjoyed the pool and gardens. The shop was so close our son went to get the bread every morning. So all in all, a great time was had. Nic & Tracy. Dubai.
The cottage is beautiful and the gardens and pool magnificent. It is so convenient for everything as well. Altogether a fantastic break and I can't imagine we would find anything better elsewhere. We will definitely go back if we can. Caroline and Nick.
We had a wonderful week at your cottage. It was like walking into a quiet oasis in the middle of the town and very near to all the amenities. The swimming pool was amazing and large enough to do some serious swimming. I could have done with a few more weeks of the exercise. It was wonderful to have the space your cottage provided and very relaxing. Thank you again. Martin & Margaret.
Thank you for a wonderful stay in your cottage - we couldn't have wished for any more. We are all back at work but wishing we were still relaxing by the pool. Thank you again, Jo & Alex
We are loving the peace and beauty of it all. Douglas & Joan
